  1. Cooler? I'm half way through scratchbuilding a fridge. Sorry you're out Rob but you were never going to beat me anyway...
  2. These guys do. http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php?action=forum No rivet counting, just imagination.
  3. I've done some experimenting in this area. I thought it might be possible to do a full body psychedelic sixties flower power paint job using a set of kids felt tip pens whilst sitting in front of the TV on long winter evenings. I primed and undercoated (white) some styrene sheet and tried colouring that in but no matter how long I left it I had problems with the nibs of the pens clogging and the ink not flowing. The issue seemed to be some chemical from the paint being picked up by the felt nib and then preventing ink flow. Sanding the nib away helped temporarily but they soon reclogged. Clearing the undercoat didn't help. It might be possible to do on an unpainted body but you'd have to clean it up very well and polish any areas you'd shaved trim etc.
  4. I built this from an AMT '60 pickup.
  5. Isn't it 1/20? Looks good BTW. Love the tyres and the paint.
  6. Yellowfin ('cause it's a Tuna... ) Hotrod Harry Subtle Integra Mercedes Blingz Paint experiment Soarer
  7. Big thumbs up to you Kevin. Make sure you post some pics of yourself in the suit...
  8. I heard a radio interview with the guy who plays Lauda. He said he got a little jealous reading the daily shooting schedules. Nikki talks to mechanics about car set up. James makes love to beautiful woman. Nikki discusses tyres with engineers James makes love to another beautiful woman...
  9. This has certainly got attitude. Are those formula 1 rear tyres?
  10. Thanks folks. Mike - the decals are actually under the satin clear. It was going to be shiny but due to a number of reasons (the weather, impatience, incompetence etc) the gloss 2 pack clear ended up looking not very good (he said not swearing). So I decaled it and then shot it with acrylic satin clear. I'll let you into a secret. If you see one of my builds with satin paint it generally means I stuffed the gloss clear...
  11. This is box stock apart from plug wires and mods to the rear axle to get the tyres to clear the bodywork. I washed the chrome with a darker than usual wash in an attempt to do something a bit different to go with the satin paint. It's given it a sort of used but not been cleaned look without going to the lengths of weathering like a military builder. Paint is blue from Zero Paints (seriously, that's what they call it - Blue similar to TS something or other).
  12. The Modelhaus list vac formed "glass" for a 1959 Buick Invicta. Would this do the trick? http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?y=37&c=4023&pt=26&part=1&Submit=Search
  13. Meh. Speed is just a matter of money. The trick is not getting pulled by the cops and i've got a surefire way to avoid that this year...
  14. IMO if you don't strip the lacquer than you are wasting your time stripping the chrome. You might as well just brush paint a heavy coat of gloss black over the chrome and then alclad the resulting shapeless blob. The lacquer is much thicker than the chrome and obscures any fine detail that may be under there. Heck, half the time i'm stripping the parts because of over thick lacquer rather than because of dodgy chrome, attachment points or mould separation lines. I've stripped the lacquer off radiator grilles and been pleasantly surprised to find there is actually a Ford script end not just an oval blob.
  15. This really is the simplest solution.
  16. I looked into this about 5 years ago for someone who was wanting to take his modified 4wd on holiday to the UK with him so he could use it off road while there. IIRC you can drive a foreign registered vehicle in the UK on foreign plates as long as it is roadworthy in the UK, has third party insurance and meets all the requirements to be used in it's country of registration*. For a car from New South Wales that meant that it could only be used in the UK until it's annual certificate of roadworthyness ran out as there would be no way to get it reinspected by a NSW state government inspector while it was in the UK (although I suppose you could fly one out?). However, as the car in question was registered in Victoria where we have no annual inspection he could have driven his car round the UK for as long as he wanted so long as he kept paying his annual vehicle registration fee and had someone post him the sticker to put on his windscreen. Of course poms drive on the correct side of the road like we do so there would have been no worries about LHD. In the end though he didn't go through with it as his car had a dedicated LPG engine and there was a lack of servos that he could fill it up at. *If you think about it the existence of car ferries to and from mainland europe & scandinavia and the drive on drive off channel tunnel train service mean that it has to be possible.
  17. Dual fuel you reckon? Which would make the round things with the bolts sticking up on the cylinders without plugs could be compression adjusters. Start on petrol and switch to the other fuel once it's running maybe. I remember once reading somewhere about a russian tractor which had a variable compression engine which would run on anything from creosote to vodka. You just screwed in (or out) the compression adjusters the appropriate number of turns according to the manual.
  18. Hence my stalled Challenger 1... I've been told that you shouldn't use cored solder for making headers as the rosin will corrode then from within. I've no idea if this is true but have always used the solid stuff just in case. Hope i'm wrong as those look great.
  19. The Revell BMW Dixie is the old Heller mould. It's not too bad but isn't an Austin 7 Chummy (which is what i'm wanting to build as that is what my godfather has along with a Ruby and the remains of a Swallow Sidecars coupe body). I'd kitbash the 2 together using the best parts of both kits.
  20. You really think that old clunker will make it out of New York? Nice work. I've been working on my turbo installation. Sorry for the crappy phone pic. That's an air to air intercooler in front of the radiator. The piping passing through the radiator core. The engine is an OHC 4.2 litre V8 from a Toyota Celsior. Normally aspirated it kicks out the same power as the 'cruisers stock 6 cylinder turbo diesel so with the Javelin Engineering turbo set up we will be looking at a serious increase in gee gees.
  21. Just a tip for you. When picking up other people on their spelling it pays to proofread your post. It can save embarrassment. Don't ask me how I know...
  22. You need really fine strands of fibre so first shave a kitten... Looking at that pic i'd stipple as many different greys as I had.
  23. Hmmm. I'd assumed Toyota had dominated the 4wd wagon market worldwide with the 'cruiser. Just shows the old saying is true - Assumption is the mother of all mess ups. They are still THE choice here if you want to go further off road than the pony club paddock and you want to do it in comfort. Watching footage of the UN inspectors looking for nerve gas in Syria shows the UN continue their love affair with them. The TV news showed a convoy of white 200 series 'cruisers rolling into damascus full of blue berets.
  24. Ah yes, the 1/24 Austin 7 people. My parents live down the road from there. I keep meaning to send them the link as suggested xmas presents...
  25. Tomo - beautifull isn't the adjective I would choose. Ruggedly handsome maybe? Nice avatar BTW (even if I do prefer Sabbath Bl**dy Sabbath & Never Say Die).
