What's the One Part You Hoard?
JollySipper replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
License plate decals......... They're often just the finishing touch a model needs...... -
Custom hot rod, I mean awesome
JollySipper replied to 89AKurt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a Rick Dore build, so there's a good chance it's a James Hetfield car....... -
Buying online or brick and morter stores
JollySipper replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Buying from Model Roundup is kinda like buying from a Mom-n-Pop store...... I wish they had reward points and coupon codes like HobbyLinc, which is the only other site I buy from...... No local shop here, the closest one to me is probably Hayes' Hobby in Fayetteville..... an hour one way. -
Just a heads up about '58 Edsel.....
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wonder how many Pontiac kits got Edsel bodies? -
Just a heads up about '58 Edsel.....
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '62 Catalina "body bag" as he called it.... I HOPE it's just my one kit that got the wrong part! I talked to someone on the phone, they said it would be 2 to 3 weeks for a replacement, is this a normal wait time with them? -
Nothing like a nice slice of pie.

I like pie sectioning -
I just received my '58 Edsel from Model Roundup, and it has the wrong body in it........... It has the Pontiac kit's body. I know it's something that happened in packaging, and I've given Round2 a call, we'll see if they return it. Just passing this along...........

Looking for advise on sandable primer
JollySipper replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I like the DupliColor products....... The tall can is the "sandable", The small Perfect Match cans are "scratch filler"........ You want to take a few coats to cover instead of trying to cover the plastic with wet coats, as it MIGHT craze the plastic a little. That's the only drawback of using the auto primers. -
Flea Market Score

Those are some nice finds! That Lindberg Impala looks like the "corrected" version...... It's a real nice kit! -
Heather Locklear isn't so busty, but this lady definitely is......... Oh, wait, you said "Busted", not "Busty", my bad.......!
-
That's your "signature", you can go to account settings, then signature, then type away......... I think there is a max of 5 lines, though.....

I usually buy a kit, then build it....... sometimes I may have a second one started, but most times I have just one build going.

Something I forgot to mention in my previous post...... I kinda do a "flow test" of the primer while I'm wet sanding it. I just hold the body under the tap for a second, then look at how the water flows out. If the primer looks slick and shiny when it's wet, then the paint should flow out also. Little trick I picked up!

I use DupliColor on all my bodies.........I like them because they have a fan nozzle instead of the cone spray pattern that most other paints use. I scrub the bare plastic with Comet, wash thoroughly and let air dry, then I prime with the Duplicolor sandable...... Sand the primer with 2000# wet, wash again and air dry......... Then usually two or three color coats, then two or three clear coats....... Here's a good paint job I got using this method,, as Bill said, there are Many techniques to get a decent finish........ The clear can be polished once it cures, which only takes a few days since they are lacquer One other advantage to using lacquer instead of enamel is it dries faster so there's less chance of lint and dust getting in your paint job.............

Hey, Shawn! You could get some foil and kinda mismatch that along the sides, like maybe only foil where the body is blue....... Like on some of the panels, the chrome might have been painted over!

Alternative rocker covers for Hemi engine?
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The engine is meant to represent a late '60s street engine, so I guess I would need to paint them black.......... Thanks, guys..... -
Hey, fellas....... I'm building the optional engine and stand from the '68 Charger kit........ I'm not sure how I want the valve covers finished. They come chromed, or I could paint them black, but I was looking for other options..... Did the Hemi ever come with valve covers in something besides the choices I have? Maybe gold anodized or something? Bare aluminum? Thanks, guys..........

That's real cool........... Thanks, Guys!

Thanks, Gentlemen! I never mentioned, but the decals are from the latest release of the Lindberg '37 convertible custom thingy...........
