For the Arctic Blue Metallic paint, I simply mixed two parts paint to one part thinner. I used the generic brand found at Lowe's. Air pressure was set at 20 psi and I applied two mist coats after which I applied three heavier coats to get maximum coverage. BTW, Tamiya white primer was used to prime the body before I started the painting. After the paint had dried for a week, I then used sanding pads to smooth the paint. This was followed with Novus #2 and finally a coat of Meguair's Gold Class Car Wax. Thanks everyone for the kind words. It is appreciated.

Just finished this one today. It is the Revell kit that I built mostly OOB. No real problems in building it, just have to be very careful when mating chassis and body, the fit is really tight. The blue Is Model Master Arctic Blue Metallic. The tires have been detailed using the kit Goodyear decals and vinyl blue lines provided to me by forum member Erik Smith. Thank you, Erik, they look awesome. Well, enough of this chit-chat, its time to get back to the bench and start something new and wondrous. Enjoy the photos.
  10. Nicely done! I agree that the exhaust pipes need to be darken.

    The Fire Chief

Please see my other post as to how I built the siren and light.

    The Fire Chief

For those who are interested in the siren and light, I scratchbuilt both of them using ball point pen parts. On the light, I cut down the barrel of a pen to build the base. I then used red sprue from a long forgotten kit to fashion the light itself. On the siren, I used part of the plunger mechanism to make the rounded part. The front of the siren was made using styrene tubing. A small piece of wire mesh was used for the siren screen. After everything was done, I used Alclad for the chrome. Thanks everyone for the kind words.

That is sweet! I like it a lot!
  14. I build this kit years ago, shortly after the kit became available on the market. At first my plans were to build factory stock and in factory colors. But then one day while I was searching for decals for another project, I came across a sheet for emergency vehicles in 1/48 scale by Microscale. Well, that got me thinking about doing something a little different with the Hudson. Short story, it became the Fire Chief's department vehicle (and daily driver). The red paint is Tamiya spray can, which came out very nice. I should have rubbed it out a little, but I got lazy and wanted to finish this one as I had another project going. The chrome work is a combination of kit, Alclad and BMF. A LOT OF BMF! The siren and red light are scratchbuilt as is the antenna. The interior is done in two-tone gray. Even though I detailed the engine bay, I opted to cement the hood close. This was a fun and enjoyable build and looks really great sitting on the shelf. Enjoy the photos.
