  1. Sounds good. Yea I believe Purple Power is my best bet. Tge reason I didnt strip is due to 2 factors. 1. Impatience! Trying my best to slow down. 2. I figuered I would have already messed the model up beyond repair.
  2. Thats all I needed. Thanks a lot Mike.
  3. Quick question... How long do you leave your body in brake fluid when stripping? Do you use any specific type of brake fluid or just your basic DOT 3 BF?
  4. Got my hood set up. Majority of the body is ready to go. Just have to strip the paint and add some putty. All comments & suggestions welcome! I trimmed the excess styrene that you see in front of the scoop and near the back. Didnt have time to take pics before leaving work.
  5. Man... This is so awesome!! I envy your work and craftsmanship. Really astounding!
  6. Just might do that. Just curious if their was any other brands that might be better or more efficient.
  7. So I've realized that using Super Glue for scratch building is kind of a drag. Any thoughts on this Plastic Weld Glue or prefer another brand? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ambroid-number-110-Pro-Weld-Liquid-Glue-plastic-welder-glue-2-Fl-Oz-Glass-Bottle-/230961325066?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item35c65e240a
  8. You're the man! Thanks for the great info.
  9. Love it!! Truth be told, I love the grease weathering you did on the seat!! Personally, I had never seen that. Over all this build looks great!!
  10. Awesome!! Thanks for sharing that Dale. So to make sure I'm going to right way, by using this particular motor/ transmission, all I would really need to do is my crankshafts and such. Sorry if my questions seem redundant or petty. Def. need to do some more research. I was setting at work this morning looking at the model and just jumped in feet first.
  11. Very Very VERY small update... Need a little bit of insight. This is the motor I'm looking at for this build. 1/24 Big Boss Mountain Motor 815 Ford Pro Stock Resin Kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/271179006267?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I'm about 98% sure this is the motor I want. That being said, what would be the best option to take for my transmission/ drive-train.
  12. I would love to see someone tackle this. http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/580-hp-fiat-500-powered-lamborghini-v-12-195309347.html Given I don't think it would be extremely hard. But an awesome concept if you ask me. Widen body would be the greatest challenge for me as I'm new to the whole scratch building area.
  13. Dale: I used a sharp blade to score my lines first then used the back of a dull blade since it removes more material. Keep checking the other side of your material. Once you start seeing your score lines coming through, switch back over to a sharp blade to finish it off. Ron: Yea, I really contemplated trashing the model but I figured this would be a good test for me. I'm planning on a scratch built frame/ chassis and a Gibson Motor. Gong to take a while to get all the materials needed but at least this way I can pace myself and plan better. Still trying to learn the scale measuring.
  14. So a while back I built the 2010 Shelby GT500 by Revell. Needless to say, it didn't turn out. Left finger prints on my paint, chassis to body was all messed up. Was not happy with the final product. Can we say "Rebuild"!?!?! I decided that since this model was "A Failure" to me, I would try my hand at my very first build with scratch building. I guess this would be considered as Kit Bashing although I have no intentions of using parts from another kit, just a lot of aftermarket parts. Please feel free to post tips, tricks, techniques, and/or anything else regarding this build. Since this is my first, I'm not expecting or even pursuing perfection. This is a major learning experience for me and thus far, I have learned quite a bit and now have A LOT more respect for those who scratch build entire cars. **Sorry I did not take Before pictures** Here We Go... Cut the front clip from the body. Also removed the center section of the hood for the motor placement as well as remove the front grill pieces. Body after the cut-away. My first Scratch built Drag Spoiler. Still adding some details. Spoiler Lower. Hide Away Back Windows. Custom Front Lip.
  15. Very Nice!!! Love the color!!
  16. Lesson #18: That part that you ever so slightly super glued in the wrong spot and/or angle will now never move unless you break it.
  17. I call them my "Tear Down Later" I started model building (in a serious nature) about 2 months ago. My first choice was the Revell 2010 Shelby GT500. Needless to say, it was horrible. So, I completed a few models after and now I've torn it apart and plan on rebuilding it for a new life as a Pro Street Drag car. I hate when my Models don't go as planned.
  18. Finally broke Winter yesterday here in Virginia. So nice to know that I can now paint outside instead of painting at work and using a dehydrator. WOO HOO
  19. Yea. Sometimes Michael's will have a 25% off Purchase Total (which this includes sale items as well). I've noticed Hobby Lobby will do that too. Offer a 40% off coupon and yet the models themselves are on sale. It's a big bummer.
  20. Very nice indeed!! Love the color combo and the racing harness's. Job well done!!
  21. Wow!!! That's wicked cool!! Great work Pete. Really remarkable!!
  22. Here's mine for my 07 Stang. Still have a little bit to clean up.
  23. Guess I should've asked this. I seen the major over-loaded topic with what to use. Does it matter what I choose to use as far as the type of paint is on the model? I'm not sure what kind it is.
  24. So I've been throwing these up all over the forum. Now I know where I'm going with it, sorta. I have two 1:18 "Famous Car" that I'm going to tear down and repaint and add more detail. Now, what should I grab to strip the paint off of the car? I believe (key word), believe the cars are plastic. I found Super Clean in a purple bottle at my local Wally World as well as the Purple Stuff and Green Works. Thoughts?
  25. Yea I kinda gathered a little bit for the "Famous Cars" tag. I usually build my models so I'm not too educated in the Diecast/ Prebuilt area. These really lack detail. Looks like a tear down/ rebuild is in the near future.
