  1. I just pulled this old girl out of the pile, thanks to your deuce thread. She's another one of my "favorites". Think I can get her presentable by the first of November for the ACME meet... EDIT: Never mind. I didn't read the rules.
  2. Here's part of the story of the car and the team... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHs9o8FZdlE&t=865s
  3. Somehow I missed this one. Love what you're doing, love that old Monogram kit.
  4. I didn't know that. Is that this box?
  5. Hell...I'm lucky these days to even get a date with one that doesn't scare the cat. EDIT: But that doesn't keep me from noticing that there are still lots of 'em out there, any one of which could be my forever favorite if she was parked in my driveway.
  6. It is true that for many Americans, it's as if it never happened...which I find incomprehensible. I will certainly never forget.
  7. Well, see...it's kinda like women. The '50s Vogue-model style really lights my jets, but a hippy chick in bellbottoms with long flowing hair works about as good. Then there's sultry redheads in satin, and little beach-girl brunettes...get my drift?
  8. Yeah, I like everything about it. The colors, the pin-striping, the red wheels, the flippers, the little iron cross on the fender...yup. Looks like you have a very steady hand for BMF too. Nice work.
  9. I posted my "perfect" one, but any of the other cars would suit me just fine as "perfect" if I had decided to build in that style. So many possible '32 Fords, so little time...
  10. How about a chopped 3-window with a Hemi, on steel wheels... Or James Hetfield's perfectly period piece (built by Josh Mills at the shop where I used to work)...
  11. I came across a wise person the other day who maintained that one could see the world as full of hate and cruelty, or as full of love and kindness, that it was a choice we each make. But I disagree. I think it's important to see fully that the world is full of hate and cruelty, as well as love and kindness. The choice is which part we decide to embrace.
  12. A wise friend of mine once said "Different strokes, for different folks, and so on and so on and doobie doobie do...."
  13. I still maintain that almost every build has something worth singling out for mention. It takes a little more effort to put some thought into a response, but praising one aspect that's objectively worth it is better, if the intention really IS to help an aspiring modeler, than a blanket "like" style response.
  14. I've tried it both ways. I don't know about you, but when somebody pokes me in the eye with a stick, my natural inclination is to poke him back, harder, with a bigger stick. When Harry was here, we were encouraged to take disagreements to PM, when it was actually private, and the edit function was still enabled. More often than not, the opponents would vent their spleens, and ultimately walk away after a virtual handshake, content to disagree, but still at least respecting each other. A few, however, opted to refuse meeting halfway, and all I can say is to H with 'em. But I have been goaded and literally dared to go to the mods on occasion, as if it's the coward's way, when it is in fact now encouraged. After several particularly rude posts, I did just that. And after one exceedingly vile comment in a PM, I also complained. Frankly, to settle the points myself would have been vastly more satisfying.
  15. Yup. The guys who built the thing aren't a bunch of bozos who fell off the back of a turnip truck. And to run under an FIA sanctioned land-speed attempt, the engineering and safety aspects of a vehicle like this are under strict oversight by another bunch of guys who actually know what they're doing...and looking at.
  16. In spite of some occasional ruffled feathers, I have to echo BeakDoc's sentiment, kinda: I owe most of you a debt of gratitude for the inspiration your builds provide, for the guidance your tips, tricks and advice provides and for just being, for the most part, an all around good community of folks who love the hobby and all manner of automobiles.
  17. I answered your question in reasonable, coherent English. If that's not enough for you, it's not my problem. You seem to me to be trying to provoke a confrontation, or get me mad enough to rip you a new one. Sorry...it ain't gonna work. Have a nice day. To quote you: " it's not important what unimportant people think."
  18. Perhaps, but on this forum the one who fights to defend himself is often dealt with just as harshly as the one who initiates the poo-slinging. Frankly, this is in direct contradiction to most laws concerning human aggression, where I live anyway. We are encouraged to run to authority when we feel another member has crossed a line, and actively discouraged from rising to intentional bait. The internet tends to bring out a lot of the worst in people, 'cause it's easy to be a tough guy sitting at a keyboard, and get away with all kinds of goading that would get a man knocked across the room face-to-face.
  19. By all means, have a hard time believing anything you like.
  20. You make no sense. Don't try to bait me into something. I posted my responses in English. You like to think you're a bright guy. So read. And it's "you're".
  21. I made several points. You failed to single out which one "bothers" me. So I guess I'll have to assume you're asking why they ALL bother me. QUOTING MYSELF: "There's also a fair bit of cliquishness, behind-the-scenes gossip, and intentional blackballing going on. Speak out against or disagree with one of the cool kids, all his buddies will cut you dead. Ignoring noobs is frequent too." ANSWERS: 1) I think people who have to be part of an in-crowd and gang-up on others to have any sense of self-worth are petty and pathetic. That goes for gossips too. And people who hold grudges over imagined slights. Yeah, pathetic. 2) Ignoring new, low-count posters, who often post better work than many old regulars, is just more stupid, cliquish rudeness.
  22. There's also a fair bit of cliquishness, behind-the-scenes gossip, and intentional blackballing going on. Speak out against or disagree with one of the cool kids, all his buddies will cut you dead. And don't anybody bother to deny it. Ignoring noobs is frequent too...which is why I often go out of my way to find something positive to say about low-count posters' builds.
