I understand your frustration. Several times this evening, I tried to get on PB to load some pix to update a couple threads. No dice. It was up again a few minutes ago, but I'm over it for today. Still, if PB doesn't get any worse than it's been for the last several years, i'll most likely keep on keeping on with it. I'm just one of those guys who prefers to do business with the devil I know.

Man, that's a lot of pretty work. Man. Damm.

Just a thought about 3D printing
Ace-Garageguy replied to mikemodeler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Another point worth mentioning that gets largely overlooked is that 3D modeling allows people who may NOT have the physical modeling skills necessary to create masters using traditional hands-on methods to turn out superb first-generation parts. Much like the digital illustration programs that have allowed folks who couldn't do much of anything with a brush and paints, or pencils, or ink, to create "art", 3D printing can bridge a pretty significant talent gap. You still need a good "eye" to evaluate your work, but the excellent eye-hand coordination and understanding of materials and tools required to make a first-rate master is not necessary. -
And Photoimage.org appears to be gone. Go to the site and it says the domain is for sale.

My own Beck has been waiting for me to get some indoor shop space to get moving forward again. This should be a reality by the end of the year. (The place I live now has only a carport and an indoor shop large enough for a few bikes and all my tools. My last place had a 2-car garage and a drive-in basement). Long story. Yes, the nose air intake, definitely. (The Beck has molded-in fake louvers...which I hate...and I've already made a blanking cover for them, as appears on some cars lacking a forward oil cooler.) The Flintstone kit tail is also way too narrow. Then there is a pregnant bulge on the rear of the model I've NEVER seen on any 1:1 (and I've seen a lot). The mirror fairings are typically the same size...though they do vary from car to car. Besides the Flintstone nose air-intake being different from any 1:1 I've ever seen, the shape of the underside of the nose is wrong. The tops of the rear of the front fender profiles also seem to be slightly wrong at first glance, giving the model a swaybacked "warped promo" look the real cars lack. The cooling grilles on the rear deck are, I believe, in the wrong place. The undertray, though it includes seats and some "frame tubes" needs to be replaced entirely. Etc. BUT...it's a lot easier to start with something that really isn't TOO bad than starting with a block of wood. The model, as-is, looks a lot more like a 550 Spyder than Palmer kits looked like their subjects. And judging from some of the other builds of the kit I've seen, the headlights from the Fujimi 356 fit it very well.

Excellent. But a LOT of the world still runs TinyLimp and will for quite some time. Those of us who use the operating-system equivalent of a Chevette with a Vega engine and as much useless trim as a Haitian bus or a Philippine Jeepney have to stick together.

3D printing growing as we speak
Ace-Garageguy replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I put the link up for several reasons. 1) The machine featured will makes prints in a variety of materials, even "soft" materials, and the resin packs are loaded more-or-less as cassettes. It's a fully developed system that's quite user friendly. 2) The videos presented show the capabilities of the technology quite clearly. I think a lot of the casual readers of this site (modelcarsmag) really have no clue as to what 3D printing is already capable of, and professionally produced videos like the ones available at the link I posted go a long way to overcoming the relative ignorance surrounding this stuff. 3) One of the available videos deals specifically with "moldmaking with 3D prints". This has been discussed on another thread as though it's some kind of black magic future-world far-out stuff. It's not. It would be good if more people realized just how well developed and capable this technology already is. 4) Videos are going to get watched more than articles are going to get read, unfortunately. If the object is to inform as many people as rapidly as possible about the technology in general (rather than one-upping as to which tech is better and newer and faster, etc.), videos are the way to go. My intent is to make information easily available, period. -
As of 2:39 PM EDT, P-bucket was up and apparently functioning normally again.

Kinda like...ummm...the fact you've never seen an alien doesn't prove we're alone in the universe.

Got a call this AM showing "Ga. State Government" in the ID screen, and it was a sales pitch for Medicare supplemental insurance...nothing to do with the government at all, but sure to catch the unwary...and quite possibly nothing but a phishing exercise to get SS#s and other identity-theft data. I also just read where indictments have been issued by the Fed against a bunch of folks involved in the India-based IRS phone scam, said to now have screwed something like 15,000 gullible people. PAY ATTENTION. The world is full of thieves.

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
Ace-Garageguy replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, and last time I looked (which was a while back) their attitude towards respecting "intellectual property" rights (like patents in other countries) was a joke...so much so I wondered why ANYBODY would want to do business there. Oh yeah...it's cheap. -
I just received the Flintstone Porsche 550 Spyder kit as a gift. It is typically lacking in some areas of symmetry...as are many Flintstone products...and it's a slush-cast job, kinda rough. SOME of the proportions and lines are fairly good, and some things are just flat wrong, like the tail tapering to a too-narrow dimension...instantly noticeable. The kit also has some details molded in that I've NEVER seen on a 1:1 real OR kitcar version. As I do have a 1:1 Beck 550 Spyder, I'll be beginning to correct this thing to match the real car over time. Lotsa work, and time probably better spent working on the real one.

Beautiful job on a not-too-great little kit. I know this is an ancient thread, but I just received the Flintstone kit as a gift. The website is it down right now pinged it http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/photobucket.com.html and reports P-bucket down for maintenance. It's been off and on all morning. This is typical, and it will probably be back up and working in a day or three. You can check the status anytime by clicking the link above.

Occasionally I've had one photo load duplicates within a group of several. No idea why either, but just delete the extra one and everything is happy. Occasionally I've also had one fail to load out of a group of several. Just re-load the missing one (denoted in the upload by a red X), all is bliss.

You really have a superb feel for color and texture, and picking out just the right details to make a part look real. That top-and-bows is an excellent example. Always a treat to watch and...hopefully...learn.

Rattle can painting outside
Ace-Garageguy replied to SamBred's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's good advice in general, but just remember...if you're shooting enamel, you have to pay attention to the "recoat window", which will vary with temperature. Recoat an enamel job outside the window, and you run a serious risk of wrinkling and lifting. -
VERY nice.

It's definitely an intermittent thing, and if you're not a heavy user, you may not happen to EVER be on when they're having problems. AdBlock helps the photo upload speed...but it sometimes takes an extra couple of seconds for the load to start as the ads think about trying to run and get slammed by the blocker. The paid account seems to be a little more reliable than the free one was too, but that may be coincidence. It's cheap at $2.99 per month (the way I do it) and I never miss the money. Occasionally the site will be offline, sometimes off-and-on, for days on end...and a check of one of the services that pings websites will verify that, yes, P-bucket is down. But like I aid, they've always fixed it so far, so I'm OK with an occasional inconvenience.

Several companies still build these. I'd really like to know the date of the mag you saw that in. http://www.jimmeyerracing.com/products/sub_55-57_chevy_car_gasser.shtml

Nicely done. I have a thing for track-nose cars, especially low low low ones.

Every few months P-bucket seems to have some problems. So far, they've always had them cleared up in a few days. I haven't seen the logic in transferring hundreds of photos to another site that may have its own issues....and IF you transfer all your photos, everything that's om P-bucket NOW will disappear from all of your earlier posts. Simply too much hassle for me at this point in time. I'd rather let them get their stuff figured out, as they always do, than reinvent a wheel that only fails occasionally.

A wise course of action.
