  1. Hi Marc - are you trying recreate the 1:1, or make your own version? The SOHC D16 engine is correct for the USDM chassis (LHD), but the specific race car in the picture is based on the JDM Civic Si (RHD) - which came with the DOHC B16a engine! The EF3 was one of the first chassis that Honda put the B-Series engine in, but the B-Series wasn’t available to other markets (some exceptions) until several years later. Cool find on the SOHC D16 engine all the same. By the looks of the valve covert alone, it looks like a later SOHC VTEC variant (D16Y6), so it would best suited for a CDM Civic Si (EJ8), or a mild custom Civic hatch. The EF3 Honda Civic never came to North America with the VTEC engine – either the SOHC or DOHC variant.
  2. Here’s my latest project: ’49 Merc Battlewagon Not really sure if it qualifies as a RAT, but I’m building it with a raw and angry attitude all the same. Here’s a mock of the Revell ’49 Merc Wagon + Jimmy Flintstone body, parts box grill, wheels, and misc. pieces from the Revell ’49 chopped coupe. Been plugging away at this over the last couple of weeks…. ...and how it sits today...

    Beautiful!
  4. Finished weathering the wood last night – real please with the end result. A few small items to detail paint, but the body is nearly completed.
  5. Nice job on the weathering-I like it
  6. Thanks for the feedback. For the windshield, I laid down some masking tape. Then I put it in the body to get a sense where the wipers would be. Drew freehand the path I thought they would travel across the windshield. Took a sharp blade and cut the tape-this is the hardest part because I've broken a few windshields in the past by pressing too hard. When done, I misted Testors dullcote from a distance. That's it!
  7. Looks perfect to me... I'm going with a similar stance on my latest Woody build, so I say Rock It! Who cares if it's impractical in the real world, its just a model
  8. Agreed, although I did find some reference pics of 240Zs out in the desert regions in similar condition. Sort of proves my theory that early Datsuns were already rusting when they were delivered from the dealership show rooms. The plate is kit stock. I just used what I had on hand at the time. Planning on entering this in a show in March - will be tweaking/improving it before then. We’ll see if I can’t get the kit stock wheels to look more realistic.
  9. Yes it is - this is the issue I started with: Hope the later BRE issue had some of its issues fixed.... That's what I was going for lol. Can't recall the last time I saw a driveable 240Z out in the wild..... Thanks everyone for the feedback!
  10. I REALLY like the red 'Cuda!
  11. Funny thing - when I was building this, I chose colors that were available on the 240Z when new and went with it. Totally fictional build. Since then, I've had at least 6 people tell me that they say the 1:1 in person or on TV, or as far back as 30yrs ago. To me, that's cool!
  12. The Rotsun would be a propper use for this kit!
  13. An older build I did about 5 years ago. Looks like I never got around to posting the completed pics. I remember wanting this kit bad and paying top dollar for it, just to see it rereleased a short while later for a fraction of what I paid for it. All the bad things said about this kit were TRUE! You could pull your hair out trying to build something decent from it, or make a Junker. I went with the later…
  14. Whatever you did for the wheels, it looks great. There's lots of good tutorials and write ups on how to weather on this site. Depending on how agressive you want to be with the mud, you could pick up an old brush and some acrylic paint and flick/fling it at the wheel wells/rockers to simulate teh mud being thrown off of the wheels. Haven't tried it myself yet, but its been an idea I've had bouncing around in my head for a future build.
  15. Nice weathering so far – very convincing! I like the color too – didn’t think that I would, but it work real well on a modified Jeep
  16. This is the first time that I’ve actually used the kit stock decals on a Woody build. The ones from this kit were rather nice to work with. All the same, I used some Micro Sol to make sure they stay in place. I like how it looks right now, a far improvement over where things were at a day ago. Still needs some more weathering to match the rest of the body…..
  17. Small progress on the Battlewagon…. Sticker Bomb!
  18. X2! Couldn't agree more
  19. Thanks Mike! Thanks Sam! The many layers of paint help hide the flaws lol. I always said that it's easy to mess up a perfectly good paint job, much harder to pull off a nice one. Any flaws still visible just add to the "look". I remember your build-really liked how it turned out.
  20. Thanks for the feedback. The damage was done with the Tamiya tape. I laid that down first, then the traditional white stuff on top of that. The error is all mine-just wasn't patient enough. It will just add to the patina. would have been super PO'd if this was a "shinny" build
  21. Awesome job - love everythign about it. It really looks the part. Nice attention to detail too - including the worn tires and weathering.
  22. Looks fantaastic!
  23. I like you're take onthis kit, and it doesn't hurt that this generation of Firebird/Trans Am is one of my favorite F-Bodys. Well done.
  24. Made some progress on the Battlewagon this weekend Several layers of paint (and 4 different shades of green), the body is nearly finished. We now have paint and rust! Unfortunately the masking tape took off some of the paint on the wood frame and panels. Guess the paint wasn’t as cured as I thought. Not the end of the world, just alters my strategy moving forward. Below at the mock up pics at this stage. A new base coat was applied to the wood frame before I wrapped it up for the night. Still more work to be done, but you get the idea…. I know – lousy iPhone pics and lousy lighting. Not much light in my basement (aka dungeon) at 11:30 pm….
