  1. I didn't know this kit even existed, but it looks like it was well designed. Nice assembly work on your part, and as others have said, great color choice and application. Speaking of that, would you mind sharing which specific Tamiya paint you used? They have a couple acrylic blues and several in their lacquer line.
  2. The tires I'm talking about are in kits like this Bonus question: I have a set of 1/25 wheels from this kit. I'd like to use them with these 1/24 tires. Will they fit, and if not, what's the best remedy?
  3. Some of you really nail the hard lines on your builds, especially the line from the fuel pump to the carb. I've tried using a small paper clip because the diameter seems close, but I haven't been able to get the great bends you'd see on a 1:1 engine. I've also thought about small-gauge beading wire, but don't know if it would hold its shape like a real hard line. Any suggestions and pics would be appreciated.
  4. Pardon the dumb question - is that regular white or pearl white? Either way, it's looking good. Whoops! My bad. Looks like you stated you used pearl white in the first post. Can't wait to see how this all comes out!
  5. Seems like I saw these on a few builds recently and would like to get some for a couple of my projects. Looking for something like this, but if my memory is correct, the band has slits in it.
  6. I can't speak to the kit's decals or accuracy but there's one listed on ebay and the seller says the body etc is molded in "Mongoose pearl blue", so that may save you a step.
  7. Two words come to mind for a builder who can produce a collection like this: prolific and proficient. Fantastic stuff! If you get bored and restless, would you mind showing the blue truck to the left of the green Mack?
  8. I have no doubt that this will be an improvement over the AMT kit as far as things like chassis detail and tail light accuracy are concerned, but given the sheer number of AMT '69 Chevelle kits sold over the decades, I wonder if market saturation will limit the number of kits Revell will sell.
  9. I don't know a thing about doing this except it's apparently a good idea to shoot over a similarly colored base since nail polish isn't all that opaque. If that's the case, what do you think the result would be if I airbrushed one of the really sharp red nail polishes over red oxide primer. (I haven't bought any nail polish yet & probably won't until I know more about shooting it, so no spoon tests)
  10. Killer build! Gotta ask: what specific paint did you use for the body? It just pops.
  11. Nice to see someone build and post pics of one of these. The 1:1 Cougars of this era weren't my favorites but I happened to find one of these kits on sale and, as someone who likes doing the occasional replica stock build, I was impressed by what Revell had done with it. Couldn't help but notice the license plates. Are you from the Lincoln NE area, or were these part of the decal package in the kit?
  12. Very nice collection! Hope to see more from you soon.
  13. Nice work! I've got one of these waiting in my on-deck circle, so it's always nice to see one finished. I'm curious about something. I've seen a number of these built over the years, and many seemed to sag at the back end. That doesn't seem to be a problem with yours. Did you just happen to catch the problem in mock-up and fix it, or was it not an issue to begin with? Also, what paint(s) did you use for the wood grain on the dash?
  14. Just a quick suggestion if you don't mind. See the two gray "squares" at the front of the air cleaner? Hit 'em with some flat clear. They're a kind of hard foam designed to seal up against the bottom side of the hood's air intake holes. I'm still nuts about the body color you chose. Really makes this build stand out.
  15. Ditto on that blue, which really stands out. Would you mind telling us which specific paint (ex: Testors #2374) you used?
  16. Awesome stuff. Also miss their Mandarin Red.
  17. I think those are paints made specifically for RC bodies. My question was more about the enamels (and lacquers?) made for styrene models.
  18. Can you elaborate on why Pactra's time was coming to an end? That's what I'm really curious about.
  19. Today I got to thinking back on my childhood in a small town, which, despite its size, had a number of places that sold model paints, primarily Testors and Pactra enamels. Over time, I found I preferred Pactra's products over Testors, but somehow Testors ended up being the last man standing and Pactra paints became hard to find. I know Testors has their own line of enamels covering almost every color, but there were some Pactra paints I still miss. Just curious if anyone has any background on how Testors happened to come out on top.
  20. Since I don't know much about the vagaries of photography, I hope you won't mind a question. What factors might've contributed to the difference in hue between the first batch of pics and the ones posted yesterday? The car looks great regardless, which should come as no surprise. Put a good kit in the hands of a great builder and watch what happens.
  21. Wow, nice work! Now tell the primate how you managed to find his thread.
  22. Some time ago, I asked the board for recommendations on how to fill in the lines on the underside of a hood that were meant to help you carve out a hole for tunnel rams, blowers & etc. Guess who forgot to save it to his usual files. I'd rather find the original than ask again since I received some great responses, including ways to prep the top of the hood to prevent ghosting etc. To that end, I've done a couple searches via the recommended way, but haven't been able to find it. While conducting my search I saw answers dating back to 2007, so I'd think mine should still be out there somewhere. TIA for any help on this.
  23. CapSat 6, thanks for the information you provided. I was getting concerned that there wouldn't be any options available for this kit. I like that two-scoop hood, so I think I'm set.
  24. I think most people on here would agree that you've got the accuracy and clean assembly aspects of model building down pat, which is why I enjoy checking out your posts. This Ford has all the hallmarks of your usual building style, but I'm curious about your description of the main paint color. I Googled several images of kits painted with MM Turquoise Metallic and couldn't find one that matched what you've posted here. This pic is from the Hobbylinc site next to their listing of MM Turquoise Metallic. IMHO, your Ford looks like it was painted with MM Mystic Emerald, while the dash and other parts of the interior appear to be painted a lighter green. All that said, none of this takes away from the great job you've done on this build, and I look forward to seeing your next project.
  25. Just curious what various casters might have as alternatives to the hood in Monogram's 1/24 kit. Links or pics would be appreciated.
