  1. Gotta say, I really like this. IIRC this was one of Monogram's most detailed kits. Are the hoses & connectors on the passenger side inner fender kit parts, or did you make them?
  2. Got a couple unused resin pieces from another modeler. He couldn't recall who had cast them and they had no instructions etc. I'm just looking for basic prep tips so I can paint and detail them.
  3. And finally, a week after it was supposed to be delivered, it finally shows up. Seems like it spent an inordinate amount of time ping-ponging around Colorado. 4. I grew up with a love for reading which, unfortunately, I don't get to indulge as much anymore, but I recall my own list of early influential books. As a teen, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to read Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm and Golding's Lord Of the Flies in school. On my own time, I read and reread S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders as well as Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and Asimov's I, Robot. I wasn't aware of Douglas Adams until I got to college, where I found four of his books sold as a "trilogy" in the bookstore. Guess who blew off some of his required reading because he couldn't get enough British humor.
  5. I didn't, but in grade school I was friends with a red-haired girl (like Pippi) who loved it. She surprised me one morning by showing up at the bus stop with braids and a dress made by her mom to look just like Pippi's.
  6. I've heard Createx paints are difficult to learn to use. Did it take you a while to get the learning curve down? Looks great so far.
  7. I can only chalk this up to incompetence - last night my ebay package was 3 hours away in Colorado and scheduled to be delivered here in Nebraska today. As of this morning, it appears that the chimps in charge decided it needed to go west instead, and the latest data indicates it made it as far as North Salt Lake, Utah. That's more than an entire state (Wyoming) away. I assumed they worked strictly off zip codes but maybe someone thought NE meant Nevada instead of Nebraska. No idea when I'll see it, and from what I can tell, no way to tell them to reroute it. Weird 2nd issue: I've tracked dozens of ebay shipments using my desktop, and it's usually dead on. On this order, every attempt resulted in a message saying Status Not Available. My phone, OTOH, shows every stop, time and date. Not sure how that happens.
  8. Glad you have the dexterity to build stuff in the smaller scales; I'm not sure I could pull that off. Looks fantastic. Like someone else said, it seems like Aurora made an AFX G-plus slot car of this or something similar in the late '70s/early '80s.
  9. At the risk of abusing a pun, does the phrase "top notch" apply here? : ) Love the way you salvaged this kit by incorporating elements from other kits and adding your usual touches (machined pieces, styrene surgery and perfect paint). Glad to see the new paints worked well for you. Having them available in decanted form will make it easier for me too.
  10. Would you say the quality of Humbrol paints has returned to their original standard or somewhere between that and the Chinese stuff?
  11. I'm looking for an online hobby source for paint and other supplies (right now, BMF and the new Tamiya thin masking tape, to name a few). Who's got the best selection of model products, good prices and reasonable, timely shipping?
  12. Do we have specifics as to when and where we can buy them? I've been trying to get some of these for years and haven't been able to.
  13. Monty

    Boxster

Welding helmet required! My computer monitor even squinted. Great color and build. Those license plates you create are incredible.
  14. This pic made me wonder if you were able to modify the front suspension to make the wheels poseable. If so, what did you have to do to make it work?
  15. The radio station probably took the idea from a Who song called Magic Bus (1966?).
  16. Here's the Mr Color version https://spraygunner.com/gsi-creos-mr-color-model-paint-red-madder-c-68/
  17. I love this color! Any chance you could use their aqueous (water-based) version? No it's not in Detroit, but Gunze paints are hard to find. A couple years ago I ordered a number of my favorites from a hobby store in Australia. https://www.rcjaz.com/mrhobby-gsih86-red-madder-gloss-10ml-gunze-aqueous-hobby-color-acrylic-paint-p-90066286.html
  18. I honestly thought the only Howmet kit out there was the old 1/25 MPC item from decades ago. While this might be a smaller scale than that one, it's always nice to see one built this well. Would I be correct in guessing you created that windshield wiper yourself?
  19. Me spotting a C3 Corvette thread I still consider these old MPCs some of the most enjoyable kits to build despite some of the quirks you mentioned (big blocks after '74, horribly misaligned auto trans halves, and despite sharing 90+% of the tooling with the coupes, this one was inexplicably tooled up without a master cylinder or brake booster. That said, doing your due diligence on the details can result in a very nice build. Can't wait to see what all you do with yours.
  20. This seems to be a fairly recent phenomenon, at least for me, but a number of my current ebay purchases are still sitting at the sellers' locations. They print a USPS label but drag their feet actually mailing it, yet somehow ebay allows them to call that item "shipped".
  21. Nice clean build and great color - looks like a shade VW might have offered at the time. I'd like to know (good or bad) how working with Tru Color paint was. This might be the first time I've seen it used.
  22. Bad (& obscure) joke: turning a muscular 442 into a radio reporter's Cutlass is putting the cart* before the horses. * carts were endless-loop tape devices (looked like 8-track tapes) that contained recorded commercial or news content.
  23. This is a '65 Ford Galaxie door panel. I can use BMF to do the chrome sweep and handles, but I need better ideas for the lighter-colored metallic insert. I'd considered trying Aluminum BMF but was concerned that burnishing it in place would just turn it into a "chrome" look.
  24. I agree. I always wondered how they got away with that. When I lived in Dallas there was a place in Arlington (suburb) that sold real HoK paints and had a model display area where you could see how they looked. Huge difference between that stuff and the stuff Walmart was selling.
  25. I'm trying to phrase this nicely: please don't speculate if you don't know. I really don't want to waste paint experimenting. I came across an old box in my modeling supplies that had a number of bottles of House Of Kolor paint (the stuff sold at Walmart years ago). None of the bottles had been opened, mostly because at the time the stores couldn't keep HoK's proprietary reducer in stock, so I never got to use them. They still seem viable, but I wouldn't know what to use to reduce them for airbrush use. Years ago I even saw a post that said you'd have to use a product from a 1:1 auto paint store to make them work. Just curious...
