Looks like I'm close to using up all my space for saved messages. I could probably get rid of most of them but I'm not seeing an obvious way to do so. TIA for all helpful replies.

Options for semi-gloss and flat clears?
Monty replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just for clarification, when you guys say Tamiya, are you talking about their lacquers or their acrylics? I don't have much familiarity with either. -

I appreciate the info, but I'm looking for semi-gloss and flat clears. -
Options for semi-gloss and flat clears?
Monty posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Since Testors has done away with a large portion of their hobby paints, I've seen numerous threads about what clears to use. Most are looking for gloss clears, but I'm almost out of my Testors semi-gloss and flat clears and am looking for recommendations. If it matters, I use enamels on almost everything, but would love to have clears that would work over acrylics and lacquers as well. -
Excellent work! Design-wise it looks like Revell nailed the details, but your assembly and paint work really bring that thing to life. Question: I have some of those Revell Fire Red tinlets I want to use on a car model. I've never used this paint before and was wondering how well it airbrushes, and if it gives good coverage without requiring multiple coats.

Looks like you did a great job on this build. Very nice work. A couple questions: 1) Were there any parts of the assembly process that required extra effort due to a mfr design issue? 2) Does this kit also have a left hand dash? Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

From what I've seen, they offer a wide array of high quality hobby materials, but the brand doesn't seem to have the same cachet here as some other Japanese brands like Tamiya do. That said, I hardly ever see many negative comments about their products, especially paints, so I was hoping to hear from those of you who had used their clears.

According to Google Maps, you can find this car at the corner of Amazing Design and Skilled Execution. Nicely done!

Nothing that might affect the warranty though, right?

Some brainiac has since determined that instead of being 3 hours south of me, the item should be sent to a location 3 hours east of me. Probably the same reasoning that had it bouncing around around Bensenville, Illinois for 2 days.

Dumb question about Stynylrez primer
Monty replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've got a bottle of Badger Stynylrez "Metal" coming in the mail soon. It's supposed to result in a primer coat that finishes like a Model Master metallizer. I hope to take advantage of that by shooting Model Master metallic paints over it, as they're slightly translucent. If this works as planned, the "metal" effect should give the paint a little more "pop". That said, I've also got a bottle of Mr Hobby Color Leveling Thinner coming. Seen a lot of YouTube videos on this stuff and it seems to work well with acrylics and enamels. I'll see how the primer shoots with and without it. -

Thanks! I'm sure I'm not the only one who will benefit from this. Build on! -

I should'a figured you'd be way ahead of the curve on this. I don't have this kit yet, but for future reference, what's the solution to the track width issue? -
Way to bring that old Buick to life! Great shade of red complemented by flawless foil(?) work. Any engine shots?
-
Remarkable! Love the paint, detailing, and clean assembly work. Props for great photography as well. Question: I noticed chrome seat braces. Were those kit parts or did you make them? If so, how?

Just to add to what's been mentioned about exhaust seams, take a look at both ends of the mufflers. In my experience, many kit mufflers have seams across their fronts and backs that aren't there on the 1:1 items. Quick, easy fix. Another thought: many AMT kits seem to have an issue with a wider than stock front track, making the wheels and tires stick out past the edges of the fenders. Notice how the rear tires are tucked in under the fender flare? Here's a real one: I'll leave it up to you guys building these cars, but I would need to find a way to correct that before I started. -
Apparently I was one of those who somehow managed to miss this when you originally posted it, but having seen it now...wow. If memory serves, you once put this kind of skill and innovation into a pickup from the '50s with similar pleasing results. Lots of things to commend you on, but correcting the stance was essential to making this car really stand out. Well done.

Perseverance is going the distance, overcoming the obstacles and sticking the landing. NASA's Perseverance Rover on Mars. Congrats on a great build! Thanks also for mentioning the paints used on the body. Nice to know finer scale metallics are out there.

1970 Dodge Challenger Trans Am

I think Revell offered one, although if memory serves, it was based on a diecast, which affects some aspects of body accuracy etc. I think there's at least one member who built the Posey car, so I hope he'll chime in soon. -
We've all learned how transitory things are in this hobby. Kits and related products appear, some never to be seen again. To that end, I'd been buying and storing various Testors spray paints over the years, knowing that some of them would have shorter sales availability than others. The other day I was digging through the stash (stored in clear Sterilite drawer-boxes) in search of a color that would be optimal for a project on the bench. It was beyond disheartening to see so many Testors cans with some kind of goo that had oozed out at the lower end. The Tamiya and Odds & Ends cans are still in perfect shape. I wonder if some of these Testors cans would still have enough pressure to decant them.
