Very impressive array. I wish I could produce quality eye-catching builds like this at a much quicker rate, but... Of all the builds you posted, this stood out the most to me. I'm guessing it's an old AMT kit with a 2 metal axle chassis, but the paint colors, stance and detailing made me stop and look longer.

The main point is I prefer enamels for almost every aspect of model building, although the Tamiya lacquer paints seem to be able to provide great results for bodies. Aaronw listed a number of enamels that are no longer available, and I'll add Pactra to that list, as they were my favorite paints till they went away. Yes, there are tons of new paints coming out, but almost all seem to be acrylics, and for the most part, I'm just not interested. As for the Revell enamels themselves, I think I mentioned reading some European military model sites where the majority of builders gave them high marks for quality & coverage etc, plus they appear to offer some shades of colors I don't have, and I love having a wide range of colors available. The slow progress of the rollout and the lack of any US-based hobby suppliers still puzzles me, as the importer's original video indicated they planned to have these here last fall.

Congratulations on a great build. That main body color is period-perfect, the chassis weathering is very well done and your halo top came out great. I'd never even thought of using craft paints, but I may be missing out based on what I see here. Quick question: what on earth is that thing in front of the master cylinder?

While I'm glad to hear these paints have at least made it to this continent, there's a part of me that wonders why our northern neighbors seem to be getting them first while there still doesn't seem to be any US-based source for them. I don't begrudge anyone having a shot at them, but it seems they'd sell just as quickly here. I'd also be curious to know what, if any, agreements RoG might have tried to put in place with the bigger dogs (Tower Hobbies, Mega, etc) to ensure there'd be a place or two where their paints could be found in a basic internet search (lots of us live in very small towns with no real hobby shops for miles). Any industry insiders want to offer some insight on why this rollout is going this way?

Another delivery issue. Product purchased on ebay around the 16th. Dec 25, 2020 3:40pm PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY PHILADELPHIA, PA 19176 Dec 25, 2020 5:17am PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY PHILADELPHIA, PA 19176 Dec 18, 2020 5:03pm PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY PHILADELPHIA, PA 19176 Dec 18, 2020 4:59pm PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY PHILADELPHIA, PA 19176 Despite saying "processed through Philadelphia PA USPS facility" this package has obviously been stuck there for a week. I know it's the holiday season but thousands of other packages were processed through there and ostensibly sent on to their respective destinations. What on earth is keeping mine there?

What an incredible array of subject matter, all done so well and within a year. I aspire to have a decade like that. Would you mind telling me what exact paint (Ex: Testors #1619) you used on that '64 GTO? Love that shade.

Reaper madness! : )

I like where you're taking this, especially the wheels. For some reason, many modelers leave these undetailed but they look so much more realistic with the addition of some black paint on the hubs and sides of the spokes. I used Humbrol#85 0n my last set, but you have several choices of paint to pull this off.

The wheels came from "kits" made by Model Rectifier Corporation somewhere around 15 years ago. You could choose from various tires including Goodyear Polyglas , Firestone Wide Ovals or Mickey Thompson Indy Profile tires with either Cragar SS or Keystone Klassic wheels. The kits also features numerous fittings and adapters that would allow you to put the wheels on most other 1/24 and 1/25 kits. IMNSHO, the wheels were very well done, while the tires were iffy at best with square shoulders and, in the case of the Mickey Thompsons, the words on the sidewall seem to have been placed there randomly. The kits originally retailed for around $13.00 (IIRC), but are now hard to find and complete sets usually go for over $50.00.

I'm concerned about this computer because one of the things I initially liked the most about it seems to have succumbed to...something. When I first bought it, I could hit the power button and be fully operational in about 40 seconds. Now it takes several clicks and 2-3 minutes just to bring up my Google Chrome page. I know virtually nothing about computers, but it makes me wonder if some sector on the hard drive is failing.

I've had this desktop for around 5 years and it's been the best one I've ever owned, but I'm seeing things that may indicate it might need to be replaced. Finding one won't be an issue as I'll just get a more current version of what I had. Here's where it gets tricky: I hate Win10. When it comes to computers I don't need more complexity, and I'm hopeless at playing the how-do-I-do-this-now game. My current computer came with it, but my "computer guy" found some kind of workaround software that makes my setup look more like, say, Win7 (much more intuitive). Unfortunately, he says the stuff he installed was taken off the market. Dumb question: Would it be possible to use a thumb drive or something to capture this modified OS and put it on the new machine? If not, is there any chance there's another Win10 modifier that will keep me from going insane trying to relearn everything?

No problem. That ability should give you a lot of flexibility when planning your builds. You certainly have an eye for color. Those shades look like something that would've come straight out of Buick's design department back in the day.

My dad was a huge fan of convertibles and we had some nice ones, so this naturally caught my eye. Your conversion really turned out well, and the upgrades add the perfect finishing touch to a great looking build. May I ask which specific paints you used on the body and interior? (Ex: Testors #2546, Humbrol #58 etc) They really set this car off.

Thanks, Dave! That answered all my questions.

As someone who likes rep-stock builds, I was excited to see that these guys with their expertise in reproducing 1:1 car colors are now offering factory color enamel paints for models. 1) I'd like to hear any of your experiences with these enamels, good or bad. 2) Any idea if lacquer thinner will work well as a reducer? I'd like to get away from needing to have 8,000 proprietary reducers on hand. Any pics of builds shot with these enamels would also be appreciated.

AMT 1967 Supernatural Chevy Impala with my own spin on it..
Monty replied to RandyB.'s topic in Model Cars
Now look what you did - you made me look at a four-door. With envy, I might add. Very nicely done. I don't think you could've picked a better color for that build, and I also appreciate your listing the paint you used. Great choice on the Tiger Paws as well. Fireball's got some great options for those of us who don't necessarily want Goodyears on every build. Just curious, is the wheelbase the same on this kit as the 2-door kit? -
As has been mentioned, there are several threads about this which will give you most of the info you're seeking. Long story short, the company's gone and won't be resurrected. You might be shocked at what some complete kits go for on ebay.

I'm building AMT's '65 Galaxie kit, which isn't bad, but could benefit from some upgrades. Here's where I need help. Seems like many models of this vintage lack any inner wheel/brake detail. I noticed Scenes Unlimited carries these items which he lists as brake backing plates: 1) Would these be accurate for a '65 Galaxie? 2) If so, which is front and which is rear? 3) Any pics out there on how they would've appeared in factory stock form (colors etc)? TIA for all helpful replies!

There's a lot to like here. Looks like that MCW paint flowed out perfectly, and you obviously did your homework on the interior colors. Nice engine bay detailing too. I hope we can see more of your work soon.

The same dorsal orifices who oinked up all the toilet paper a couple months back went on to make rubbing alcohol the new hot commodity. From the biggest MegaloMart to the seediest Stop-n-Rob at the edge of town, everyone's out. I guess the thought is, you have to scrub everything and everyone down so their Hazmat suits don't get contaminated. Remember when rubbing alcohol was about a buck a bottle? Not online. The profiteers are out in force. You can buy a regular 16 oz bottle on Amazon, but expect to pay $9.00 - $16.00 plus shipping, or if you're feeling rich, a gallon for around $32.00. I haven't changed any part of my daily cleaning ritual, which rarely ever included this stuff, so I'm not going to panic about it. I just like to have some around for mixing acrylic paints and cleaning the airbrush.

Although Revell's line is nowhere near as extensive as Testors, I'm thinking their paints may help fill the void left by Testors dialing back on the paints they're going to offer model builders. If I have my info right, Testors is killing off the Model Master series, the Acryl series and possibly the Metalizer series. With those gone, a shop might have the room to take on another line. Just a thought.

IIRC the folks at Stevens Int'l put out a video a while back indicating they would be bringing the entire Revell paint line (acrylics, enamels and spray paints) over here and they'd be available in September(?) I'm really anxious to try some of these since I read some comments on a British board saying how they were even better than Humbrol, which has gotten itself back to being good now that it's no longer made in China. Yes, you can buy them on ebay, but @ $20+ shipping per tinlet, that's not even an option. Any US or trustworthy Asian sources carrying these yet? Links would be appreciated.
