  1. I'm going to build one eventually, I just have to look more into the changes I need to make. My grandfather was aboard CV-19, the Hancock, in the late 50s. By the time he was on it the Essex class carrier's were getting mods and the Hancock got the hurricane bow, angled flight deck, and the better of the available steam catapults. The old Renwal Shangri-la is very close to how the Hancock ended up but the elevator is in the wrong spot. Some of the Essex carriers had their elevator right behind the con tower and on others they were closer to the stern. I can't remember which one the Renwal kit has but it's wrong for the Hancock so I have to move it. I also want to build the plane he was a flight mechanic on, an A-7B Corsair II from VF-154. I have both kits, just need to focus on them.
  2. The Titan was one of the first reissues in the late 2000s. Whether the T-600 can come back or not depends on how they restored the W-925 kit.
  3. It is, and yes, it is much better than just a straight reissue. It just seems to be the way it goes sometimes.
  4. I figures, I bought the resin copies of the unique parts in the kit so of course they bring it back now.
  5. After thinking about this for a while I almost blame the host more than the owner of the car. The host is in control of the situation and as soon as something went wrong with the car and didn't resolve itself quickly it was his responsibility to shut the shoot down until the car was right again. I work for a utility company and anyone on a jobsite can stop the work if any part of the job becomes unsafe. The owner might have had this happen other times and become complacent because the throttle unstuck itself more easily. A new set of eyes seeing things getting worse and worse needed to speak up and get the car off the road. Yes, the owner is ultimately responsible but in this situation there is more than enough blame to go around.
  6. I'm guessing brake fade after fighting a huge motor that won't go back to idle for a few miles. I've had my brakes fade on a mountain road and it was like that, they felt fine and suddenly they were almost completely gone.
  7. I just got mine today, my deck plate is warped as well. It's not as bad as others have posted but fixing it will still be a PITA.
  8. Good luck with your replacements, it's been over 4 months and I haven't heard back about drippy chrome on some 69 Chevelle bumpers.
  9. The axles pictured are very different from what has been in the 71 and 66 4x4 kits. These have to be the axles from the upcoming 250 kit.
  10. Fireball has a set of Swampers that are 35x15.
  11. This reminds me of Richard Hammonds' crash in the jet car on Top Gear. Both seem to have been caused by a high speed tire failure.
  12. Yeah, as Jim said, the era of the hood you're using will determine what engines are appropriate. The Cummins in the Revell K100 kits would work into the early 80s though you'd probably want to convert it to the more common single turbo version. The Cat 3406B in the Revell snap kits would also work for the early 80s. The 8v92T in the AMT Papa and Hideout trucks is also from the dame era. Once you get newer than that you'll have to track down a resin one.
  13. I built that probably 20 years ago when I was far less skilled as a modeler and I don't remember any real issues.
  14. The Monogram 69 Talladega is listed as a 1990 debut but is very obviously 1/24 scale.
  15. The Dana 20 was not very common in trucks, it was mainly seen in Broncos and Jeeps. It's hard to go wrong with the NP205, yes, it would be driver's side drop. An Atlas transfer case would be a nice option for a serious rock crawler.
  16. I remember folks saying the chrome trim ring wasn't tall enough to easily wipe the black paint away when the kit came out.
  17. There are these front suspension sets on Shapeways, since you're building a custom vehicle these look more modern. http://shpws.me/RV6i
  18. I want to say that the recent Ford Courier kit has two of each of the current hollow tires with Firestone Super Stones lettering.
  19. I've got a tire pack request, the Firestone Wide Ovals from the Baldwin Motion Camaro. My dream would be tooling up a matching set of two smaller front tires around the size of the ones in the Duster kits and pad printing the white letters on them. Include a big and little set of either Halibrand or Cragar SS wheels with deep dish rears and I'll buy literally dozens of them. There is a huge lack of good big and little tires and wheels.
  20. My guess is dumping kits they feel the might not be able to move once the Revell kit comes out.
  21. The AMT 62 Catalina has a 2x4 intake on the 421.
  22. If you have the AMT Deserter kit you can use it to help you layout the cuts. The beds interchange on the real trucks so line up the wheel wells and trim away the excess. It will work out to taking about 1" from the end that touches the can and about 1/4" between the wheel are and tailgate.
  23. I'm putting parts together to build a ghetto lathe. I found a socket that the wheel just fits in so a bit of masking take will make it nice and tight. I'm going to use a 3/8" drive adapter in my drill and clamp it to my bench so I can turn the wheel inside the socket and use a 1/8" wide chisel I bought to remove the lugs.
  24. The AMT Deserter kit has 8 lug wagon wheels.
  25. They did, it's got Dana 44s from a Jeep.
