gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
WOW, I didn't think you could top the 62 Chrysler but you might just be headed there with this one bro. As you well know black is my hands down favorite color. To bad its a pain to clean ( or keep clean I should say ) -
Is the seat pattern decals ? if so are they in this kit or aftermarket ?

Caspers Cosmic Charger paint
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, Ive read and re-read that post several times. And I think I have it figured out. I've glued the lower rear and upper halves of the tail together and molded them together as one piece. Once painted I'll then slide the chassis in place. And then glue all the forward body panels in place after that. I'm after the look of the actual car with the scoop and the front wheel fairings. To be honest I just don't care for box art build version with the blower sticking up out of the body work. And mine is going to built curbside style as well. So the engine and all the blower stuff will go in the parts box . I have to go out this morning so i'll pick up some blue paint for the upper rear cowl , windshield frame and wheel fairings. But for the most part. So far so, so good -
Some days I wonder what the model manufacturers thought process is on re-issuing kits. And this is one of them. I would imagine this will be retailed in the $29 range give or take . One can find this kit in the secondary market for well under $20 all day long. ( bought one a few months ago for $10 still sealed inside. ) And yes I know the manufacturers could care less about the secondary market place. But still ? Maybe I'm just not familiar with there thinking but to me it would make more sense to bring out something that hasn't seen the light of day , in say the last 20 years for an example. I'll use the 72 Chevy pickups as an example. I would think it would be a much better seller than say this one ,,,or the just re-issued Color Me Gone Dodge Anyone know for sure the thinking behind the scenes on how/why/when a kit gets re-issued ?

Wow, won another one over the weekend . Wasnt really looking for another vert ( I have a pretty nice one already ) . But I threw a bid on it the last for minutes thinking I would get outbid at the last minute. Got up today only to find out I won the thing. It looks like a pretty decent builder in the pics

Dodge Q3 light turquoise
gtx6970 replied to restoman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I stand corrected. Looks like it MIGHT have been avail on 1970 B body models. In all my years Ive never seen or heard of one in that color. This isn't the end all on color availability so don't take it as gospel . Look around here for more info http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/index.shtml -

Mind if I ask , what it is your planning to paint. To the best of my knowledge the only thing Q3 was avail on was C bodies in 1970. -
1/25 MPC Carl Casper's Cosmic Charger Fuel Dragster
gtx6970 replied to dragnut's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
WOW, Very nice. I was in my local HL yesterday to pick up some paint. And they had this kit on the mark down isles. And for 17.99 I couldn't leave it there. Ive always thought this was a beautiful looking car then and now. Ive never been much of a FED model builder but this one will be in my case for sure . And I have it on the bench right now and would really appreciate any build tips anyone can provide . Im planning to build it as the scooped version with the front wheel fairings . I think it looks cleaner . Haven't decided yet if I'll actually put the engine in it or not. Have to pick up some blue in the next day or so . The orange/red I am going to use is a Mopar touchup color called Candy Tangerine I bought for a different build but decided to go with a different color on it -
Found this one at Hobby Lobby on the discount table. Anyone have any build suggestions or tips to make it look right. Especially paint colors or suggestions Tia

First time using BMF
gtx6970 replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here, I ordered the pens mainly for dash bezels , steering wheel horn rings. And the occasional under hood touch on engine parts / chrome valve covers as an example. Seriously doubt I'll ever use them on any body exterior trim I would be real curious the longevity of these pens finish over time . How well they retain there brilliance -
A couple new decal sheets for later on someday builds . Now I might actually drag one of the new 65 Satellites to the bench here soon

Jesse, The Koach does have the Cobra valve covers ( dont remember if the Dragula did or not , and if it does you cant see them anyway once the body is on ) But the engines are so far under scale in both its unreal. And if one decided to build a drive train in a more correct scale I don't think the body would fit down over them . Thats one of the reasons I don't think either car would make very good parts kits. Ive been on a simple kit build run lately. The Koach isnt done yet as I'm going to do the wind shield frame with the chrome pen when my order arrives . But I like this picture . My daughter did a snap kit build of the Polar Lights 66 Batmobile and its in the other side if this case . Once completed, I'll take a better group photo of them all I present ( and in my best Fred Gwynne voice ) I present the cars of my yuth.
