Retirement cant get here fast enough. Wife and I plan to move west , far west the summer of 2018 . Wife wants to be closer to her sister in Sahuarita AZ . I want out of the cold weather Plan is sell or rent the house here in KY and move away from the cold and snow. I've had enough and need a change. ( never was a fan of cold weather anyway ,,even when I was a kid ) My view someday very VERY soon. The Sierra Vista mountain range to the south and the sunset to the west and just listening to the Coyotes howl at nite. Plan is to build a shop , work on old cars, build some models from time to time and maybe even get into some woodworking / house remodeling with my Brother in Law.

Very nice. Not that i expected anything less. I picked up a decent mpc 70 challnger for the sole purpose to build this car

The only Dodge to ever wear Sox and Martin colors was the mid 90s Dakota and the mid 70s Hemi Colt -
What's the best Coronet kits available
gtx6970 replied to WoodyRDC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on what year ( and scale if it matters ) your after. AMT made a 1965 Coronet kit ,,way back then . Polar Lights ( I've shown here ) makes a decent 1965 Coronet today, its not perfect but can be made to look presentable for a lot less than the original AMT kit is going to cost you in todays market . All the 1967 Coronet kits are the same ,,just different wheels , decals and box art. Monogram made a 1969 Superbee ,,but its 1.24th scale MPC used to make the 1968 thru 1970 Coronet kits back in there respective year ...... The same 1970 Body is avail today ,,,just with the modern tooled AMT chassis and running gear. There never was a 1971 or later Coronet kit produced -
Just keep your eyes peeled . Take a body from the LA Dart and the body from the Ramchargers dart and make your own Neither one are to hateful to find I did

It's time to say goodbye to Florida - End of story 3/19

WOW,, to pick up cold feet and move to an area with no family near by would be tough. But I commend you on it. We plan to make a move to southern AZ in under the next 2 years tops ( daughter graduates summer of 2018 ) So I kind of understand,,,but its to get away from the cold weather is our driving force. Wish you luck -
I was thinking about you this morning and ventured down to this section of the board . Keep your chin up and putting one foot in front of the other.

Really depends on actual condition. If its absolutely dead mint perfect it MIGHT bring $400 to the right person . If that's the actual kit in question its not flawless, ( shows box wear ) And will not bring that. Based on that,,, if its sealed inside with no signs of issues $350-375 tops . Open inside $300 - 325 MAYBE $350 to the right person but I doubt it ,,,all this is based if its perfect inside with inspection ANY issues inside what so ever, such as - damaged or missing decals, broken windshield frame ( common issue btw ) missing parts and its well below $300 . These are tough to find,,,but not near as hard to come up with as the 68 Coronet hardtop is. If it matters a nice builtup can be had for the $75 to $100 range without to much difficulty,,you just have to be patient to find a really nice one that isnt all modified or cut on. I just picked up a really nice very builtup for about $85 a few months ago off ebay There is one on ebay right now I am keeping an eye one that has a BIN of $265 ( missing the hood ) At that price if everything else is perfect its not to hate full ( hoods can be found without a ton of effort but plan to spend in the $20 range to find one ) So you would be all in the car for about $300 . I have an extra hood already http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ORIGINAL-MPC-1-25-SCALE-1968-DODGE-CORONET-CONVERTIBLE-/122273987129?hash=item1c7818fa39:g:NlgAAOSw-0xYPIsN

gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
its the real deal original metal axle 1971 annual. Just has a modern tooled 340 in it. not as difficult as a 68 coronet kit persay. But not super easy either. And the modern amt tool kit didnt hurt there value one bit -

3 pretty tough ones to find. MPC 1970 Dodge Charger - built to replicate a good friends actual MPC 1968 Coronet RT convertible. I built it to replicate a good friends actual car. ( same guy owned both ) and an MPC 1971 Duster . -

Ok, For me that I have personally built/rebuilt is probably a toss up between my 59 Edsel - 60 Continental I know the Lincoln and Edsel are not the hardest to find, but they don't exactly grown on trees either,,I have rarer to find kits,,,just not that I've personally built. -

Your Rarest Built Kit.

My rarest kit isnt even in my short list yet (johan 59 Fury) The ' i have to be the builder ' quote......hmmmmmm .i am gonna have to think about this a bit -
Agreed, The Lindberg 64 Dodge is probably the one Ive built the most ( have 4 completed so far,,none as the Ramchargers car ) ps, this is how the Iron Butterfly looks today

Been dealing with a lack luster interest to work on this one. But I did muster up a idea to upgrade the old Johan interior tubs. Simply added strip stryene for the chrome door panel dividers moldings. Found some door panels out of the AMT 68 Roadrunner kit. So I cut the arm rests out of them and added them to the Johan interior and some small stryene strips to replicate window cranks ,,,,, It looks SO much better. Added embossing powder for carpet and painted the seats simple duplicolor white primer.

A Blast From the X-EL Past
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a few of them . But Sure would like to have a few more . I would love to have a few 57 thru 59 cars Big question is,,,,where did the tooling of these go ? -
Next question- Racking parts to be replated
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thats sending them all , already stripped correct ? Ive already made the rack so thats moot point. And Yes, all mold lines have been removed. . If it wast for that a good portion of these wouldn't need replated What started this process is I want to get moving on a 59 Galaxie sunliner build and the chrome for it was toast -
Driven by Wally Booth early on, then later by Dick Oldfield

I try to build my old super stockers accurate, within reason. It comes down to try and replicate a car at a particular time. Don't hold me to this but I don't think a 10" rear tire was even avail in 64 was it ? I think the biggest back then was an 8" or MAYBE a 9" rear tire. ???????? A good example when you can use the Lindberg supplied tires is something like this one. Its a 64 Dodge Iron Butterfly SS . Its a true SS car, but wasn't campaigned till late 60s time frame

gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Steve, You peaked my interest. what kind of cost difference we talking ? . Little Motor Car co. can plate the rack as shown for $26 , plus return postage with about a 2 week turnaround time. pm me if you prefer -
Does the AMT 69 Charger Daytona contain the Charger 500 parts?
gtx6970 replied to LVZ2881's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
IMO, The hood in the yellow bodied charger 500 kit . Needs a little work to soften the edges in the depressions just a touch. But other wise its right for a typical 69 Charger As to the contents to any other issues of either kit. I have no idea . I have several of each the above and never bought any subsequent versions. -
Next question- Racking parts to be replated
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Steve, Mine is 6" top to bottom. and it was 8" lengthwise, till I folded down nearly a 1/2" on each end to give it legs so to speak -
Next question- Racking parts to be replated
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thanks ...but this is just the tip of the iceberg. I doubt this even a 1/4 of what I have stockpiled the past 2 or 3 years . Luckily several don't need the chrome redone I figure there's maybe a year ( ok,,,probably 2 maybe even 3 years ) worth of work right there alone. -
Ok, Next question Is this ok as far as crowding on a Rack. Looking to have some pieces plated and I would like to get as much done as I can in one trip as I can. is this too crowded , ? Can I put a runner down the middle for maybe 5 or 6 small parts ? ( tail light bezels for a 58 Ford being the biggest piece) Probably going to send them to Little Motor Car Co. the 1st of the week ( once I get everything stripped )
