Anyone know what the proper term is for them . They are kind of a weird thread . I have several of these cars missing them and was looking around McMaster Carrs site to see if I can find a reasonable replacement

62 Catalina 421SD - Next on my hit list!
gtx6970 replied to ConventionalMan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Gonna look good in black with blue int. I built one of these a little while back. Other than masking up the tri tone interior its a pretty straight forward kit to build. I don't remember any fit issues -
Time to bring this one back to the front of the table. In a perfect world it'll be done by Christmas . I may give it to a friend of mine as a replica of his former car. Petty Blue , white interior , 440 six barrel , console auto. The actual car. It now belongs to Tim Welborn in Alabama

WOW, I would be so happy with how those lines turned out ,,,I would be beside myself and all giddy if mine looked that good. Im seriously toying with the idea of coming out to AZ for the show next spring. ( I have family in Tuscon AZ ) -
you funny guy. I've made the mistake of selling builds I've done in the past, that's not going to happen again while I'm still breathing.

Thanks all for the kind words. I really do appreciate it. Its probably one of my all time favorites. It just came out exactly like what i had in mind in the very beginning . I sent pictures of the car to the shop that owns the actual 1/1 its based off of and they want me to write some kind of article about it to showcase to there customers. I got a reply back this afternoon and it made my day.

I wish I could take all the credit for this one. But a few weeks back I picked up this builtup . It was already painted an assembled. I dis-assembled it , redid the interior in the correct red for this application. Masked off the seats and fogged some over spray black, silver, white and gold to give it a cloth insert look to it . I did all the bare metal foil trim and emblems ( it was all brushed painted silver that did nothing for the car ) Then cleaned and polished it up the best I could. Then put it back together,,, doing some minor touchups along the way . Its one I've been wanting to do ,,just never did for one reason or another. For all of a $10 purchase it looks pretty darn good .

Yesterdays dashboards
gtx6970 replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have and accident and the passenger side airbag keeps you or your loved ones head out of the windshield or that crumple zoned hood keeps it from coming back thru the windshield like a saw blade and see if you still think this way. -
Modelhaus and R+R both ,,USED to . Only source I know of now is find one someone doesn't want or need. To be honest your best bet is probably going to be ebay . There are several people on there that part kits out. and both coronets pop up from time to time. Ps, I do have an R+R Resin 1968 Coronet RT hardtop kit I might cut loose of . Its complete except the 2 front seats. But I'll be honest its not going to be dirt cheap

You do know pirating pictures of the actual car and calling them your model isn't nice. At least it sure looks real -

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep your chin up and your attitude even higher. -
Steve, If I could give it to you,,I would. Winter time is my slow time. So I seem to get more bench time. And remember, there isn't much detail to these old annuals. The chassis is just spray bombed a semi gloss black and I detail paint the tail pipes and gas tanks only ,,even then only if I they hang low enough I can see them once its in my case. Plus ,,and keep in mind bud I don't build anywhere near your level. This is another one where I saw the real car for inspiration 1st long before the model was ever on the bench. And while perusing my local hobby shops paint rack I spotted the color and I knew exactly what to use it on. Thanks all for the kind words,I really appreciate it . I am super happy with how it turned out.

I use the new improved chrome version with no issues

I love it Odd as it sounds the light yellow with white interior works well together in the 1/1 world . Actually I looked at a real 69 B,Cuda fastback this summer at the Mopar Nats in this exact same color combo.

Well, I can honestly say this one is finished. Original issue AMT annual kit that was a completely untouched near mint kit when I got it. But ,,,,, I buy to build not collect dust. And this one was no exception. With it having been made the same year I was ,,, It's been on my short list since the day I got it last year. Painted in Tamiya Light Coral turquoise with 3 coats of Testors wet look clear on top with a 2 tone turquoise and white interior and I used embossing powder to replicate the carpeting. Body inserts are done with Tamiya Pure white then the spears were brush painted with Testors magnesuim buffing metalizer then buffed down to get the look I was after. I also used AMT parts pack wide white wall tires in place the rock hard originals, otherwise all box stock ( Hood doesn't open on these old kits ) . All the emblems were foiled before any paint went on then cleaned off with a fine point Tamiya cotton swab before the clear coats were applied . ( so many thanks for the tip Steve ) Comments or criticisms more than welcome. Thanks for looking in.
