thanks fellas, I will try this out for sure. I tried a fine gold marker and just barely touching the emblems is not good enough . I'll try the BMF and the gold top coat next I will be getting back to this one later this or first of next week . Need to get some alclad to try my hand on the bumpers . They had a pretty noticable mold line on the ends I couldnt live with. So I stripped them down and smothed out the flaws . Once I have them in alclad ,,,,If I am not happy with it,,i'll box them up and send them out to be re-chromed

Looks amazing. I like your taste in modeling subjects. I keep thinking I need one of the 1.25th scale versions

Looks killer. I just got one of these last week. And your right,,looking at it I am not looking forward to the foil process

Joe, Not sure any of the Darts have ever surfaced. But the body for the Charlie Allen Challenger was on Ebay this past summer . Just the body,,, and it didnt get stupid expensive. If it had been cost effect to get it across country I may have considered buying it just for giggles Restoring an old drag car would be extremely expensive,,,I am sure tracking down period correct parts would get very time consuming. thanks all for the kind words

Thanks all. Its called EE1 blue metallic . And yes it will have the white tail stripe . Chrome magnums and redlines . The white interiors in 68 were actually a pearl white,, I tried to acheive that with testors pearl top coat but it gave it more of a yellow look than I liked,,,so I stripped it and painted it in a duplicolor off white instead .

You ever pull a model out of the box...
gtx6970 replied to TheRX7Project's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be perfeclty honest . I did just that with the revell 1970 Cuda. With the wheel lips being to big, the tail lights to me look slightly large to me compared the back of the car,,but my biggest issue is the body line running down the side runs right on top of the rear wheel lip. None of which should have happend with a kit tooled in modern times. I am so glad I didnt sell off my original MPC builtups -
1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM,,quality questions?
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Many thanks for the feedback. There is one on eBay built and it looked out of scale to me. I think I may wait and pick one up at a show when I can do an inspection first. I am really getting into these 50s and 60s big cars. -
1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM,,quality questions?

Looking for some feedback on whether this kit is any good or not. This one -
Got the body polished out last night and wow it looks great. I think the cars owner will be happy with it. Its the same paint I used to spray the trunk of the 1/1 this week. Just a straight single stage enamel with 3 coats of clear then polished. Need to pick up some paint this weekend so I can paint the kickpanel area of the side panels in a flat black then install the dash and the interior is done .

My only real issue is the fear of going off track along where I am trying to cut..and the blade goes off and leaves a mark in the paint. Otherwise it's my least favorite part of building. Yet I don't have a problem taking days or weeks detailing an engine to the ninth degree. Something about the tedious task of BMF work drags me down. And is my least favorite part of building.

I have the MPC 1970 and 1972 , neither have any kind of bumper gaurd on them . I dont have one handy but I dont think the Johan 71 does either. I cant answer about the MPC 73 or 74 kits.,,,dont have any of them anymore. I have a couple of the amt snap kits and a few of the molded in blue HEMI Cuda kits ,,,and they all have the gaurds on them

Here is a comparison pic of an original MPC 1970 versus a 1972 , if it helps . Your grille looks pretty good to my eyes

Anyone else easily distracted,, I know I am Short story . I restore classic cars fulltime . And I am currently restoring a 1968 Charger RT 440 4spd car for a customer This week I was cutting in the insides of the doors when I realized I had paint left over. And this got me to thinking,,,oh why not !!!!!!! Sooooo,, I dug out the Revell kit I had started on 2 or 3 years ago . Laid down some primer and shot color on it this week. That developed into spraying the interior, then the engine etc etc etc. All the while I have my 58 Buick and a 62 Dodge superstocker on the bench This isnt going to be a major drawout job,,,just a quickie ( thats my story and I'm sticking to it ) and then give it to the 1/1 cars owner The body in color

Looking pretty good so far. But a bit of info if I may. The depth relationship of the ft of the headlight to the forward edge of the fender is the exact same depth on a 1970 versus 72-74 . The only difference is the headlight door or bezel as its called are different between the 2

1963 Nova Pro-Street FINISHED 5-8-15
gtx6970 replied to am73grand's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Oh I am going to follow this one. As I have thought about doing one myself . And I remember that car well. The underhood was just plain nuts,,,but oh so cool -
Looking fantastic so far. Love the color combo. And what's not to like about any 50s fin car. I know I have been on a buying binge lately to get all kinds of late 50s to early 60s fin cars.......but I actually prefer the convertibles if I can get them

Does 2015 mark the the end of the dark era?
gtx6970 replied to khier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think its a great time to be in the hobby. As far as dark times I dont know as I've never really looked at it that way. I like model cars,,,,If it interested me. I bought was what avail at the time and was happy about it . If it wasnt 100% correct , I didnt care and still don't. btw . As an example the rear tires in the Revell Thunderbolt kit are way to big for a true replica of the actual car. ,,,That sure didnt stop me from buying over a dozen of them ,,,,and I have 2 built and decals to do nearly a dozen more The 65 Plymouth and Comet,,2 cars that were never produced back in the day ,,both of which I want badly . I might even get a couple of the Pontiacs just for giggles . -
Exacly what I was thinking. Looks like every square inch of thebody is covered in decals. I like watching the Gymkana vides

Its my understanding the wheel Stockton produced ( Or was it Wheel Vintiques ? , ) Either way the wheel has been dis-continued and is no longer being produced . The new version was an all new tool for the centers and attached to an already avail wheel band . The new one used commonly avail acorn lugnuts as opposed to the oddball recall wheel only lugnuts of the originals. When avail they were first avail in 15x7 with a chome wheel ,, but after a while they came out with a 15x6 in a black wheel and Hoffmans Winners Circle produced the OE style trim ring ,,which is what the originals were . None are avail today . the 14" versions are like looking for hens teeth ,,which is small bolt pattern only btw

Yes. I foiled both the hood and trunk lettering. The nameplate on the forward edge of the ft fenders I left. They are gold and all I had was chrome BMF. Need to pick up some toothpicks so I can see if it worked. Ok, re-did some details on the dash . I want to add some beading wire to the door panels to replicate the chrome trim mldgs and flocking to the int floorboards . With it being a convertible the interior has to stand tall. But so far I REALLY like how its turning out . Comments good or bad welcome .
