Racer's Wedge question
gtx6970 replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think any dodge truck of this era ever had 6 lug wheels, they were either 5 or 8 depending on GVW rating of the chassis -
Ok, I have a build I did many years ago using Fred Cady decals that are black lettering,,then found out some time later they should be light blue, which are now avail. I am toying with the idea to correct this. ONLY if I can remove the decals and not hurt the paint. There is no clear coat over them and I think the paint I used was laquer. So hit me with suggestions . I'm all ears.

John, I wouldn'y sweat it, once the car is completed I have my doubts the valve cover deal will ever be an issue carry on and enjoy the ride
-
Thanks , I found several decent pictures on red int cars but blue int shots seemed to be a wee bit harder to come up with. I think it was actually a 2 tone blue, but I'll settle with just one shade and call it good. Got a new interior painted yesterday afternoon. and the car re-assembled today. It looks SO MUCH better now. I'll just re-use the red interior on the Cone Cheverolet / Hayden Profitt car Thanks again

When I do searches on Google, a lot of pictures end up leading me there . 170 pages is nuttin,,,,, You should see the one on drag cars in motion. Last time I ck'd it, it was over 1300 pages these also a good one on 1962-65 Mopar superstock cars as well . just gotta find it

Nice work, I was never much of a fan of the FED cars,,,but thats slowly changing and I have a few on the shelf for later one, this will be one of them
-
Correct,,,, the car was in fact poppy red, (most of the time) but in real life it looks more orange ( very similarr to the color of the plastic so that should give you a basis to match ) wheels were easily changed from race to race , even some during the same race. HUGE thread over at the hamb on these cars . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?s=3a038516c17937a24e3803fb7fa051f1&t=136384

Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!
gtx6970 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I might , I have a box of 73-74 Duster builders, parts + pieces edit , never mind. I don't even have enough lenses for the 3 kits I have -
Whats a good color match for the blue interior in the Old Reliable 1962 Impala superstocker . I know it was blue , but is there anything readily avail to show the color ? When I did mine many years ago, I did it in red, and would like to change it someday soon.

Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!
gtx6970 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My work bench disorganization monster has absorbed the same model's dashboard. I know I painted it but I can't find it. That's why I have two of the same kit open! I grabbed the part from the second kit, primed and painted it last night. When and if that lost piece shows up, it goes into the second box. -
this was so sad and yet it was good

Thanks all. Overall I am pretty happy with it. Although I've done a couple of the Polar Lights Chargers, This is the 1st Barracuda version I've done. And I've seen several builds online and the nose always looks to high ,, so I was worried . It came out Ok. far from perfect. But good enough for my display case. Thanks again

I just went thru the entire build thread, and all I can say is,,,,,,, OH MY GOD

AMAZING work . And the skill to pull this off is off the charts ,,,,,But I'm sorry that is one butt ugly car ( sorry , never been much of a radical customs fan myself ) But it just goes to show ,, the builder of the actual car was thinking WAAAAAY out of the box when he thought this one up. And in actuality the valve covers on the model are from a 426 Hemi ( and yes upside down) the 1/1 car is a 354 or 392 ( dist is in the rear ) which used a completely different shaped valve cover . In scale can it be seen ? sure , but most will never catch it. carry on. ps,,,,,,IF ( key word ) you want to change them,,,, the right ones are in both the Boot Hill Express and the Miss Deal Stude kit

I'm on a roll now. Started this one nearly a year and half ago. After having major issues with the decals. I got disgusted with it and put it back in the case. Seems like every decal I pulled out of the water either craked or split on me( some of which can be seen in these pics ) . Well,,,,,, after stareing at it above the workbench it all this time. I decided it was good enough and pulled it back down this weekend and finished it . It's Polar Lights kit. Built 100% box stock . Painted a duplicolor medium blue laquer straight from a rattle can with one coat of a rattle can urethane clear. Not super shiney but I think pretty close the real car. Not being real happy with all the chrome on the engines in these kits. I stripped a lot of it of and repainted in colors to better represent the actual cars back then. Injector hat is duplicolor chrome to look like polished aluminum, blower itself is stripped and painted in metalizers magnesium . Wheels were stripped and painted in testors brass . Learned a new trick on this one. Using a sharpie paint marker makes it a lot easier to get the black trim around the glass, and a silver one worked great to do the trim around the grille openings. 2 finished builds off the bench and in the case in under a week,,, has to be a record for me !!!!!!! Now,,,,,,, , wheres that next unfinished project ????? As always comments good and bad , much appreciated

This is another one that was painted last spring. then sat aside . It's the Model King re-issue from a few years ago At some point I might add a pre- wired dist but for now I want to call it done . At least till I find a set of the rear wheelie bars to add in, the ones in the kit were warped beyond use 100% box stock. Painted in Testors green metallic with a rattle can urethane clear. It took 3 sets of decals to get it done as they kept cracking as soon as I pulled them out of the water. Plus they are actually done for the Johan kit which I think is incorrect for this car scheme. So it took some work to get right . But it's done and I'll move on with the next one. If any one has one,,,, I need the ft bumper from the Soapy Sales kit , as this model king re-issue doesn't have one With that said,, Enjoy Comments good and bad welcome

Thanks to all for the kind words . it makes my day. Bumpers were stripped and sprayed in a bright silver then cleared As far as the mesh ? I don't remember 100% but I think it was left over screen door mesh ( back when you could still get the metal stuff ) for a house project. simply cut out out with sharp scissors and super glued in

No it's not. I tried late this past fall to get a couple of them I was told the mold is toast and he has no interest in remolding / casting it

What Do You Want To See Next?
gtx6970 replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1 - 1965 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door sedan 2 - 1965 Mercury Comet 3 - 1971 Dodge Challenger hardtop -
Correct, it was a multiple car team. 2 cars painted kinda similar - one with white side panels and one with black side panels
-
Maybe , I need to start restocking my shelf with 64 Dodge and Plymouth kits, I mean I think I'm down to under 20 right now. I've got one of the 66 Chevelles and not sure what I am going to do with it
-
I'm told the closest match for the interior color is Tamaya Champange Gold metallic sprayed over a dark grey primer base. Which is also extremly close to the same color as the 65 Dodge and Plymouth interior colors (if not the same color )

Hopefuly they show up ok. Gas Rondas car.
