  1. This rig started out as the AMT USA-1 kit. I used the leftover 4X4 suspension and wheel/tire combofrom the 77 GMC I used to build my Grandpa's truck. I made it an 88 by scribing the two lines in the headlights. The interior is based loosely off of my Dad's 88 K1500 (Note: the floormats are Peterbilt mudflaps, in both scales!). The cowl hood is from the MPC 1969 Charger 500. Try to guess what it originally was. Made the ladder rack out of Evergreen tubing. Not sure if I will use it or not. Going to go with either black and red, black and white, or red and white for the paint . Well, here it is in all of its primed glory. Thanks for looking.
  2. I'm not seeing a picture Fred. Picture came through now. I'm building one similarly using the frame from the USA-1 paired with the suspension from the Revell 77 GMC.
  3. Agreed! Not much work to make a '77 into a '78 so I could replicate my 1:1. Heck, I'd even send Revell any of the measurements or references that they would need!
  4. I remember seeing this kit at their website before Round-2 bought them, and it is nowhere for purchase online. Announced but never finalized? If so, any chance of Round-2 releasing it? I think it's a reissue of the Testors Boyd's Hauler. Here's what it was supposed to look like. Thanks for any help.
  5. Looks great and the story just keeps getting better.
  6. Thanks guys, this is my favorite build so far. Pap loved it. The second I handed it to him he smiled and said "That looks just like my old truck!" My mom and I both responded "It IS your old truck!"
  7. I finished Pap's 85th Birthday present a few days early ( I finished it last night, PC is now up and running). I had some help from a master painter and body man for the blue and clear (said person is my dad). Dad also ran the pin striping tape that makes up the "Racetrack trim". I had to redraw a majority of the decals because of fading and cracking on the 1:1. I was going to just leave the bug guard off (I couldn't figure out a way to mount it), but then my mom gave me the idea of "Pap just bought it and hasn't installed it yet in the real world." Display case is from Hobby Lobby. I can't wait to see the look on Pap's face tomorrow! Well, here it is. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking.
  8. I would have bet every model in my stash that this was your plan!
  9. Looks good... I think a tire swap may make it look great. Those tires look better on a small 4WD truck in my opinion.
  10. 'Ol Blue received both the blue and the clear today.Chassis, interior, and all accessories are finished. I would post some pictures, but my primary computer is down for a while. The one i'm typing this from is about as fast as molasses going uphill when uploading pics to Photobucket.
  11. Hmm... I better keep that twin pod-racer engine powered 53 Corvette idea I have off of the bench for a while... No updates on the GTO. I've been working on Pap's C10 model for his birthday Saturday pretty diligently.
  12. Love the story! You just gave me an idea for an old AMT Lamborghini Diablo I have lying around....
  13. If I had to pick one wagon, it would be a 1965-1966 Ford Country Squire with the 390. Blame Forza Horizon. lol. Heck, I'd love to find one in real life!
  14. Yeah, I actually built a set, but thanks for the offer though. I may end up missing the deadline, I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled today and the bodywork (cab's back wall and visor mainly) is not cooperating. My dad will be off work until next Tuesday, so he can help me. I also go back to school next Wednesday, which bites, but Pap's birthday is Saturday so with any luck I'll be able to get it finished by then. Also, any suggestions on a stocker looking steering wheel? The one from Revell's 69 Yenko Camaro looks pretty close.
  15. Well, that truck didn't have a frame left when parked about 10 years ago. Had it been fixable it would have been my older brother's first vehicle.
  16. Parts in primer! Also, went to the local junk yard looking for window parts for our 90 Astro, and found what remained of the real one. It helped being able to see the interior again instead of going off of memory.
  17. Very nice El Camino Bob! I think my grandpa had one of these a long time ago...
  18. Very cool! Where are the tires from?
  19. I need to post some pics of my bedroom. There isn't a wall that isn't covered in NASCAR stuff.
  20. Really cool looking! I prefer scratch building my own stuff too.
  21. I think he may have needed wheelie bars.....in the second video anyway. Appeared to have a set in the first...
