The five slot mags on the original Poison Pinto were also available in some of Mongram's Early Iron Series kits.

Beautiful work Tye.   What state of Oz are you in?

I have only ever had a gluebombed Poison Pinto but that eased the guilt about cutting it up!  The body with the front clip removed makes an awesome east coast Pinto modified body.  I'll try and find a photo.  The 429 Shotgun in this kit is a beautiful moulding and looks great in over the top hot rods - the extra size of a 1/24 scale engine in a 1/25th scale kit just adds heaps to the impact in my humble opinion.

Cheers

Haven't tried Photoshop for ages so I hope this works.  This was built on a resin MPC Slammer  (57 Chevy style) modified frame and has Tamiya Formula 1 slicks at the rear.  I think it has a much tougher look than the recently reissues of the MPC Pinto modified.

Cheers

I don't care for them at all, I'd rather see Round 2 reissue some of their AMT/MPC Pinto & Vega kits. just my 2 cents....your opinion may vary...

Well ... we could have a win-win situation since the Poison Pinto and Rat Vega are both Monogram kits and would have no bearing on what Round 2 would do.

I still think the Poison Pinto only looks right in green. Despite the great job Tye did on his red one. Green to me is the color of poison. A somewhat sickly green. Even the Mr. Yuck stickers parents use to on containers to keep their kids from consuming products with poison, showed Mr. Yuck with a green face. The Poison Pinto should be in its original green. The Rat Vega looks good in its original black version, or its later yellow one.

Waste of styrene.

What is the point of the above comment? How is it a waste of styrene if it brings pleasure to someone? Okay, you don't like these kits. That's fine. But, why bad mouth something that others do like? It just seems mean, a comment like the above.

I agree with your point. The older I get the more I find they are not putting out kits just for me.

Didn't like them when I was younger, don't like them now.  I can remember buying just two Tom Daniels kits- the Red Baron when it was first released, and (just last year) one of the many reissues of the Badman, just for the gasser-style parts.

This is one of those times I could slap my forehead and say "Why didn't I think of that?" Nice work Alan!

Monogram had it figured out with the Tom Daniel kits.  Auntie or Grandma stop at K-Mart wondering what to get the model building kid for his birthday.  Checking the model kit aisle, they grab one of the TD kits and one of those Testors sets with the six or seven bottles of paint, the cheap brush, and a tube of glue.  The main parts of the kit are molded in the color shown on the box (or close enough); the paint set covers the interior, engine, exhaust pipes, and chassis.  The kid gets the thing built that day or the next, and it looks pretty much like the one on the box.  He's happy, the gift giver is happy (probably spent $3-$4 including a birthday card), and Monogram probably chalks up another sale next year.

Another one I don't get. Why does one go on thread about models they don't like, just to tell us they don't like them? Again it okay that you don't like them. That's fine. But why go on a thread with those who do like them, to tell them that you don't? How is this constructive or fun. I come to these sites to learn about models, share pleasant memories, and have fun.

The Poison Pinto and Rat Vega may not be the most sophisticated car designs ever done. Or others of Tom Daniel's designs. But, I sure had fun building them. When other cars were too hard for this 10 to 12 year kid at the time, to get right. You could almost always guarantee they would turn out looking okay. That parts would fit. And they wouldn't easily come apart. Plus, I had many fantasies, right up a 10 to 12 year olds alley, picturing myself driving these cars in real life. Would I want them now as real cars in real life? For the most part no. Though, one of two of them would still be cool.

So okay, you don't like these kits. Why tell me about it? I don't care. They are still cool to me and others posting here.

I'd love to have both kits, but you HAD to bring up Mr. Yukk.  :)  Am I the only one that had issues with those commercials?  I'd go into screaming, catatonic fits when they'd come on.  And they always showed them during the cartoons I was watching.  My brother had to get up on a broken ankle once when it came on.  I couldn't move.  Now they just P*SS me off.

Sorry. Didn't mean to bring up any bad old memories.

If you'll forgive me for beING the devil's advocate,  the title of the thread isnt asking for only positive thoughts on the kits.

If they sell it I will buy! I have reached the age where nostalgia compels me to buy and build the models of my youth. I was 7 or so when these came out and love them.
