Anybody watching the "new" JLG on CNBC? I think there have been only 3-4 episodes so far. What do you guys think?

I like Jay, and I like the wide variety of cars he features, but to me the individual segments are too short. The show seems jumpy and "twitchy." I wish he would do it more like "Sixty Minutes"... 3-4 main stories that each get 10-12 minutes, instead of a bunch of short features that only get 2-3 minutes each. Seems like he's trying to cram too much into every episode.

For example, he did a really quick 2-3 minute segment on an old 1911 or so electric car. He barely glossed over the surface, when the topic (and the car) are very interesting and he could easily have spent 10-12 minutes on explaining how and why electrics disappeared, a more in-depth review of the car, etc.

But I do like the segment where they ask you to guess which of three collector cars has appreciated in value the most.

But overall... slow it down, Jay.

I prefer the old version, focused on the vehicle "of the day".

The editing of the new show is surprisingly poor and has too many commericials for me (compared to none on the other venue)

but I'll keep watching, I didn't really care for the Tonight Show but I like Jay when cars(etc) are the focus..

I like in the fact that the show is about the cars. Jay is a real car guy. I've baled out of most of the "car" shows because of the fake drama and other diversions. I'll continue to watch.

I like this show and agree that longer segments on fewer cars in each episode would be more interesting. I also quit watching other car shows because of the fake.stories and "drama"  they feature.

I only saw the first episode but agree with Harry's assessment.  I think it's due to trying to be too mainstream, and draw in people with short attention spans.

The commercials are because it's CNBC. They need the sponsorship. I'm willing to bet if Jay's show gets good enough ratings, it will be moved to a better channel in NBC's arena. I never cared for the Tonight Show, any of them really, but I do like Jay. He's a CAR guy, any car, any genre. I like that he can go over 1900s steamer, to an all out jumping lowrider, to a 60s gasser, to a Dussenburg, to a custom COPO Camaro,to a custom chopper, to whatever. I'd really like to take a tour of his collection and shop. I'm sure there's a bunch of cool stuff.

Jay's got enough cars, connections, money and cars (yeah I said cars twice :P) that he could film and place 60 minutes worth of good stuff on YouTube a week, without us having to be a prisoner to commercial TV. And we'd only have to watch a short ad, per YouTube's usual...We'd get much better content...

I'd faithfully watch every week...

Because of the commercial interruption, I prefer the YouTube version.  It has been around now.  I just checked and there are about 400 entries.  You might want to try that.

Yeah -- I just watched 10-15 minutes on the new James Bond Aston DB10, with the car in the Garage and then taken for a spin. Jay had Marek Reichmann to talk him around the design and ride shotgun on the drivealong, and who better? It was a proper in-depth and informative discussion with the actual car's designer, not remotely just a trail for the new movie. All the JLG segments I've seen on YouTube have been similarly in-depth and informative, as well as fun and drool-worthy. I think it's the best way of getting your fix of real car-guy goodness...

bestest,

M.

I like it a lot. I haven't seen the online version enough to know if they're recycling any of that material.

I'm pretty sure the CNBC version is all new.

I only caught the episode with the race-off with Tim Allen. WAY too contrived and phony to bear watching any more. Jay, stick to what you know and leave the acting to professionals and other reality shows. I think I should probably reassess my opinion by watching a different episode because everyone else seems to like the show. I want it to be good because I'm a fan of Jay and show's concept.

That segment was bad, but the rest of the shows have been pretty good.

I agree that the segments could be longer, but the subsequent episodes I have watched after the first seem to have gotten better. I particularly liked when he drove the 1915 car up the 1915 highway.

I'm sure NBC was behind the bit. If it were totally up to Jay, it would just be him and a guest, talking about cars and driving them around, no scripted bits.

We'll see how it goes, but I think you'd have to expect some schtick from him for his perceived audience on a somewhat general interest channel. After all, he's been an NBC guy for a long time.  Otherwise, he'd go more like a hardcore car guy on a special-interest channel like Velocity or FS1.

Viewership for the first three episodes...

Episode 1: 916,000

Episode 2; 689,000

Episode 3: 556,000

Not exactly the kind of trend you want to see...

For those of us expecting the "old" Leno's Garage shows, I find this showing disappointing, ok compared to other car shows, but not as informative or interesting as before..

How many people even get CNBC for that matter?

Between belonging to three model car clubs, going to car shows and cruise nights when the weather permits, I get my fill without watching any cars shows on TV. I've watched a few in the past and it seemed like there was 'bout 5 minutes of cars and the rest was either drama or commercials. NO more for me, as I seem to do very well without it.

For almost the entire daypart, CNBC is news and finance driven. Even in primetime their anchor shows are business oriented like Shark Tank and The Profit. Hopefully they'll reassess the format, not try to skew quite so young with the video game pace and superficial info and listen to what loyal (serious) viewers want to see. I think they could do that and still keep it engaging to the kind of young viewers who would put CNBC on their viewing radar.

It's available to 94 million households (80% of all households with a TV). It's available to a lot of people, but only a tiny handful actually watch. That 900,000+ who watched the first episode of Jay Leno's Garage was the biggest viewership for a program on CNBC in their history.

Not a whole lotta eyeballs looking at CNBC.

What has advertising been like for his show. I haven't seen anything. Once mentioned on the Howard Stern show, followed by Howard bashing Jay since he doesn't like him. Then on here. I have not seen one commercial promoting it at all. If I'm not alone, then that would explain some of the problem. Then being on CNBC with the said format of news, finance and politics, then try to throw a car show in the middle of it? Doesn't exactly make sense, at least to me.

To bad I can not watch it. The problem with current TV trends is they think we all have a problem following a show for more than 5 minutes. That or the producers can not follow it for longer than that.

We all know Jay can and has done good shows about cars already. I have watched the youtube shows and they are  good, I can even watch when  I do not even like the car.

I hope he gets a chance to get through the growing pains of a new show.
