oldcarfan Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I recently bought the MPC Dodge Van release ad now find myself in need of some Minilites. I have a 4 lug one that I can cast, but I really would prefer the 5 lug. The last time I bought the Studebaker, many years ago it had some 5 lug Minilites. It doesn't show them on the box and I am reluctant to buy the kit just on the chance they are still in there. Anyone able to shed some light?
espo Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 You might look at the new Revell '67 Camaro kit. It has Minilites for the "race" version. They may work. They just don't seem wright on a big block Camaro anyway. A SCCA Z-28 maybe but not on a big block.
Mark Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 The most recent issues of the Studebaker do not include the Minilite wheels. The Round 2 issue has the five-spoke mags from the Sixties issues, the two issues before that have the wheels from the early Seventies drag version issue. For the Minilites, you want either the AMT/Ertl early Nineties issue (turquoise car on the box) or the Salty Dog Bonneville-only issue from the late Seventies.
oldcarfan Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Thanks for the answer guys. I used to have a couple that I used to make castings off. I'll try to dig them up.

I need a set and may have to buy it for those
Chuck Most Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I recently bought the MPC Dodge Van release ad now find myself in need of some Minilites. Is somebody building a Dajiban? That van have the stock wheel covers included? I need a set and may have to buy it for those It does include the stock full wheel covers.
oldcarfan Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Indeed I am. I have been saving a picture of one for a while, waiting for a model to use. I was thinking it would be a cool vehicle to tow trailers and stuff. Last weekend we were at my parents house and my dad had a box of random parts. There was most of an 82 Dodge van and I decided to do a curbside Dajiban. Monday I stopped by a hobby shop and they had the re-re-release in stock so I got that as well.
curt raitz Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Is this what you are looking for?, they scale out to 15" in 1/24th scale. I don't remember what kit I got them from, but I'm always making molds of wheels, etc. If you want a set of these, just PM your address and I'll send them to ya.
Jantrix Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 The AMT '73 Mustang comes with a very decent set of Minilites. I used them on my Stude. The kits not good for much else though.
Casey Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) The late '80s issue of the '53 Starliner is hit and miss as far as finding four good Minilite wheels is concerned. All four wheels in the kit I acquired were poor at best, suffering from either multiple sink marks, out-of-round wheel lips, or both. The Minilites in the AMT Warren Tope Mustang kit should be much nicer, and you can probably find a set on eBay from and older issue of the Mustang kit, too. They are not as deep as the '53 Stude's wheels, though they also lack the huge centercaps found on the Stude's wheels, too. Edited November 10, 2015 by Casey
Monty Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 As Casey said, Ebay has some resin versions that should provide the look you're going for. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=1969+Mustang&_osacat=2580&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=minilite+wheels&_sacat=2580
torinobradley Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Wouldn't Watanabes be better wheels? I think those vans are running them and they are available from Fujimi in the model scene.
oldcarfan Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 The Watanabes would be my first choice but the Minilites are a pretty close match. Close enough for me at any rate! Lol!
Bob Ellis Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Doesn't the AMT 1973 Mustang racer kit have these?
mk11 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) Here's what came with the earlier re-issue mpc '69 mustangs... hard to beat 4 nice minilites on a fifty cent garage sale find mike Edited November 19, 2015 by mk11
horsepower Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I thought that the Warren Topes Mustang had the nine hole Bassett stock car wheels.
Casey Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Doesn't the AMT 1973 Mustang racer kit have these? It does have the same (or very, very close to the same) wheels as those last seen in the '88(?) reissue of the AMT '53 Starliner.
