Olderisbetter Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Does anybody have experience with MCW resin cars? They have a lot of hard to find body styles. Many of their kits are complete, no donor kit needed. How does their quality compare to others?
BubbaBrown Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Ive dealt with Dave many times and will deal with him again. We can of like the same subjects, except for me and Pontiac. His stuff is equal to Modelhaus and alot less wait time. That being said there are no perfect kits that I know of.
High octane Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I wouldn't say they are equal to Modelhaus, however they are very nice as I have three of them in my "stash," and one of them I hope to start very soon. If you're worried 'bout the wait time, have you nothing else to build?
gtx6970 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I have an MCW 65 Plymouth AFX carI also have the same from Speed City Resin, The Speed City Resin car is heads above the MCW kit quality wise . Dont get me wrong its not bad and very buildable ,,,,, but not Modelhaus quality .On the other end of the spectrum I have a R+R 65 Dodge AFX that I doubt I'll ever use
Mike Chernecki Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) I have their 1957 Nomad kit. It is fairly nice, but the panel lines are too faint, its been a pain to rescribe the panel lines in resin. Interior is wrong, not sure what it suppose to represent but the pattern doesn't match any tri-5 chevy. Edited November 14, 2015 by Mike Chernecki
Rob Hall Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 They are decent, not the best. They lack chromed parts and I've had a couple show up with light warpage.
dimaxion Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Kits are spelled out in the catalog of what you need to complete the Model . I own quite a few of Dave's Products . The resin castings he makes are of a Better quality than Revelle kits . I'll stand on this testimony every day of the week . A happy and repeat customer , yes , I am . Thanx ..
Olderisbetter Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 Thanks for all the responses. I have purchased a 52 & 53 Olds from Dave. There were a couple of questions and a couple of issues. Dave was quite responsive and seem easy to work with. The car bodies look great. I'm new at resin. Only have done one other one.
rickcaps55 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 No problems with MCW over the past 14 years I think I have got just about 3/4 of what he sells and I am very happy with all his kits and he has the Ford in line 200 6 and the mid 60's Chevy in lins 6 both I have got many of them all very good.
High octane Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I'm hopin' to start on an MCW resin kit this comin' January for a club project. I have a few MCW kits and they look pretty good, however I have yet to build one.
realgone58 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I built the Revell '50 Olds with one of Dave's resin sedan bodies. Had no problems with it, nice casting.
RancheroSteve Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I built this one from an MCW trans kit (it uses the '64 Thunderbolt as a donor). Like others have said, not quite Modelhaus quality (what is?), but very workable - and Dave is great to deal with.
carrucha Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Earlier this year I bought a couple of resin kits for the first time from MCW. I found the quality to be good. One of the kits was missing the rear window. I emailed him and received the missing window a week later. I am glad he stood behind his products. I would definitely order resin kits from him again.
High octane Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I have done business with Dave over at MCW a few times when I made the Toledo Show. Not the most friendliest guy, but a good guy to do business with.
Bob Ellis Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I bought the 1968 Biscayne from MCW. Close to Modelhaus quality, but no chrome.I encountered some warp, as I have on other resin. At $40, the value is pretty good.
drodg Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I bought his 63 Catalina kit numerous years ago and I thought the quality was very very good. I have bought paint from Dave over the years and he is one of those people in our hobby that I want to stay in for a long time to come.
fseva Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I bought his 63 Catalina kit numerous years ago and I thought the quality was very very good. I have bought paint from Dave over the years and he is one of those people in our hobby that I want to stay in for a long time to come. He told me that he had been attempting to sell the paint side of the business - said the resin side was much better profit-wise. So, I think you can expect his kits to be around for a while. Sure wish he'd install an online ordering system, though...

Online ordering definitely would be nice...it seems so old-fashioned and strange in 2015 to have to print out a form and mail it in w/ envelope and stamp.

jdcar32 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) I've got the MCW 1958 Pontiac Chieftain sedan. The casting has the usual air bubbles but is decent for the money. But It has two small 1/8" diameter inclusions, one in the fender and one in the roof. The outline of these darker areas show through the paint after a Dawn dish soap soak and scrub, two Tamiya primer coats and three Tamiya top coats. At this point I'm ready to dremel them completely through and patch with styrene plugs super glued and sanded. Any similar experience's with MCW or other resin ? Fixes ? Edited December 9, 2015 by jdcar32 forgot information
High octane Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The only fix that I'm familiar with is to paint the body silver, then use your primer and color coats. This works for me on colored plastic, and I haven't painted too much resin as of yet.
peter31a Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I just read elsewhere that the paint business has been sold to a hobby shop wheels, wings waves out of Ohio.
Mike Chernecki Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 See news sidebar of the Wings, Wheels and Waves website. Looks like they acquired MCW in Septemberhttp://wingswheelswaves.com/index.php?storeLocation=Massillon

Kustom Rodder Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Yes that is correct wings wheels and waves owns the paint side. Mike the owner is a real nice guy to do business with. Edited December 10, 2015 by Kustom Rodder
