mikemodeler Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 They just announced on the evening news that Glenn Frey of the Eagles has passed away today at age 67. He had been battling some severe stomach issues and apparently had also contracted pneumonia and took a turn for the worst this past week.Grew up listening to the Eagles and enjoyed his solo music as well. RIP Glenn, I am sure there is a heck of jam session going on in heaven!
Belugawrx Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 The Eagles were the first band I saw live in concert at the tender age of 14... (40 yrs ago)RIP Glenn,...always a fan.
Harry P. Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Just heard. Wow. I am really, really saddened to hear this. I knew he was having stomach issues, and the Eagles had postponed their "Kennedy Center Honors" induction until next year, when Glenn would have recovered from his medical issues. Geez... this really hits close to home for me. The Eagles are one of my very favorite bands of all time, just a notch or two below the Beatles. I loved their 1994 "Hell Freezes over" reunion, and I loved the fact that they were still recording new material and going strong until today. Obviously now, without Glenn, they're finished as a working, touring, recording band. And that is very sad, and a huge loss. RIP, Glenn. Now, every time I watch one of my Eagles DVDs, it just won't be the same. Man. I am bummed...
Petetrucker07 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Another great musician gone to that jam session of a life time in the sky. The sad part is, all these great musicians are getting up there their late 60s and beyond. The music world is really gonna suffer some great losses in the future. I know death is inevitable, but now it's close than we want to accept.
花火 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I am listen to the Eagles sometimes. Feel sorry to hear about this. RIP.
madhorseman Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 OK, this is just insane!! I loved the Eagles music as well, R I P Glenn Frey.
wayne swayze Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 This has been an unbelievable year thus far. I always enjoyed the Eagles, RIP Glenn I agree. RIP Glenn.
High octane Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I also enjoy music played by the Eagles, this is sad news and may Glenn rest in peace.
Mike_G Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 He also played rhythm guitar in Jim Messina's surf band in 1964
Harry P. Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 My favorite Eagles song... live from 1977. Their very first hit, from their very first album. Written by Glenn and Jackson Browne. Lead vocals by Glenn, and the usual guitar mastery of Joe Walsh... RIP, Glenn...
Rob Hall Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 As a child of the 70s and 80s, with two Baby Boomer siblings, I heard the Eagles constantly growing up...always liked them, liked Glenn Frey's solo work...esp. the songs from Miami Vice ('Smuggler's Blues' and 'You Belong to the City')...I remember buying a Glenn Frey solo album ("The Allnighter") and a Don Henley solo album ("Building the Perfect Beast") along w/ the Eagles Greatest Hits on cassette to listen to in my Mustang in high school before I got my first CD player...the Eagles 'Greatest Hits 1971-1975' and 'Greatest Hits Vol II' were the staples (on cassette) of many motorhome road trips w/ my folks in the 80s....they made a lot of great music...
Petetrucker07 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I've always like Desperado and Take It to the Limits. This news just sucks. The future of music isn't lookin very good. I cringe knowing that people like Miley and Dweeber are what's popular.
afx Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Didn't know he was ill, big shock. From Hell Freezes Over which is a great live album. Edited January 19, 2016 by afx
Snake45 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 The Eagles were part of what I call the Warner/Reprise/Asylum Music Mafia of the mid-'70s. Other notable members included Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, and Warren Zevon. These guys were all over each other's albums playing/singing backup and whatnot, though you had to read the fine print in the liner notes to make all the connections. The great Robert "Waddy" Wachtel, possibly the best guitarist most people have never heard of, was a studio/sessions guy at the time and all over all these people's records, too.Today Waddy is probably best known (if at all) for the driving guitar riff of Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen," which of course became the sampled hook for Beyoncé's "Bootylicious" just a few years ago.
iamsuperdan Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I've never been a huge Eagles fan. Always respected them, but never got into them. The Glenn Frey I was familiar with was his 80s solo stuff. Miami Vice soundtracks, Beverly Hills Cops soundtrack stuff. All that cheesy 80s saxophone solo stuff. And I loved it. Somebody, somewhere is very quickly building a great band. Lemmy on bass, David Bowie and Natalie Cole on vocals, Glenn Frey on guitar. Uh oh...they need a drummer.
slusher Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Man this was another shock. i love the Eagles and remember when Glen was on Miami Vice a big episode. He was solo then but i loved the group.

Ramfins59 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 As has been said already, this is a great and surprising loss to the music world and especially to Eagles fans like myself. As a 68 year old baby boomer, it makes me happy that I opened my eyes this morning.
Joe Handley Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Will Dale Griffin of Mott the Hoople do? They've already got John Bonham up there, should be good for now!
Petetrucker07 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 It's about time for John Bonham to go again to the next level. He's been gone long enough. The way things are going, somebody will joining the massive super group concert in the beyond.
Harry P. Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 If I had to guess which of the Eagles would check out first, my money would have been on Joe Walsh, hands down. I never figured Glenn Frey would be the first to go. Not that I want to see Joe Walsh dead... just that he seemed to me to be the logical guess, based on his past (although he has been clean and sober for many years now, credit to him for getting straight and staying straight). Now I have to wonder if the guys will carry on without Glenn, or call it a career, Eagles-wise. Hard to say. I once saw an interview with Joe Walsh where he said the Eagles were his life and he didn't know where he would be without them.
Harry P. Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Man, they are dropping like flies! Just heard that Gary Loizzo, who sang lead on the '60s hit "Bend Me, Shape Me" by the band American Breed, has died of cancer at 70.Yeah, not as big a name as David Bowie or Glenn Frey, but that song was a huge hit. I remember it from my childhood... always loved that song.Holy krapp... we're going to run out of musicians soon if this trend keeps up!

They broke up in 1980 and stayed that way for 14 years, only to re-group and make mega millions on a couple of tours. Given that Glenn was their "quarterback" and the driving force behind the band, I doubt anyone can replace him. Don Henley recently released a solo album that has a heavy country feel to it and he was interviewed on XM radio and revealed that he enjoyed making that music, so I would look for more from him.I always thought they all lived on the edge, but then again they were a band of the '70's and most of them did (Rush being an exception), but still can't figure out how Keith Richards has survived while others have passed before him!

As I am reading this post, there is a commercial on TV for a Sleep Number bed and what song is used? "Bend Me, Shape Me" !
