I've got a Monogram 1/72 B-52 (HUGE!) with two left fuselage halves and no right fuselage half.

And I've got a fairly large cardboard box full of unbuildably warped model car bodies, most of them AMTs (but also some Revells and Monograms), most of them from the early '90s.

It happens, even on high-end models. I had a Pocher Mercedes with two left side window frames (metal parts) but no right side. Of course, Pocher was out of business then, so no way to get a replacement. I wound up scratchbuilding the missing part.

Back  when AMT released the 74 GTX/ Roadrunner I opened a kit with no frame at all and ended up  buying  another kit....

A couple o' parts were missing from the first Revell '29 roadster kit I got. No biggie...stuff I probably wouldn't have used ever anyway. Still, it would be nice to have had everything there in the first place.

I have a Lindberg '66 Olds 442 with a missing tail light, but what seems to happen to me more often is parts that weren't molded properly.

Like a half of an AMT '69 GTX convertible top boot & a corner missing from an AMT '62 T-bird up-top, just to name a couple.

I picked up a model kit for a friend and mailed it to him, and he called me to say the body was missing. Huh, I sent him a sealed kit?

Could have been a re-sealed kit and you never even knew it.

What kit is it, made by whom?

I have had this happen from time to time before...My Revell Mercedes Benz Unimog snowplow truck kit was sealed but inside there were no tires or wheels for it...shame looks like a good kit.  I also bought 3 65 Chevelle wagon kits....opening them I found 2 had 63 Impala HT kits in the box instead of the wagon kits...right from a hobby shop.

I've bought a couple of kits at swap meets etc. that had been "re-sealed." Didn't know it until I opened them and found parts missing, but it was too late to do anything by then. One was an original IMC "Touch Tone Terror" missing the telephone for the phone booth, and some other unique parts. That was irritating.

But once at a swap meet, I saw the ADV-Azimut 1/35 German Command Trailer in a "junk box" marked at $5.  That's an expensive resin kit. Opened it up and it had 2 left trailer sides but no right side.  The sides don't interchange - one has a door in it and the other doesn't.  But it did have an Enigma machine and some other very nice, useable interior parts. So it was worth the 5 bucks.  Later I bought another one for a decent price, so I could cast the missing side myself.

Deer Revel-

I just got my new sealed Camero kit and it's missing all the engine parts and doncha know, all the tires and wheels!  Send me new ones right now or I'll complain on the message boards and nobody will ever buy your models again!

Yea right!   :P

Ah....Deer Revel?  ^_^

As in, "when did you first think you were being scammed??"   Actual stuff the model companies receive. Had dinner once with a hobby executive who said it's suspicious when someone is missing specific parts from several different trees?  And the numpties thought they were clever!

And we're still giving away free NNL East decals...  I get emails from three different email addresses, asking for decals to the same name and address a few minutes apart... how big an operation do you think we are that this would slip through?

Most companies are very happy to make things right with newly purchased kits that came from stores they deal with...but there is always someone that thinks they know it all and can get anything past them.  Older issued kits your on your own with like my Unimog truck kit...who knows maybe it was a hobby shop kit that got opened by someone and got re-sealed thinking it was still complete..?   Glad they exchanged the 2 wagon kits...got smart and opened them up in the parking lot and caught it quick enough.

I was at my local Michael's a few days ago and noticed a Revell '59 Chevrolet Impala kit had been opened as had a '66 Revell El Camino.  Since the kits were all over the place as far as their shelf pricing I asked for assistance from an associate.  Now, in the past I have bought opened kits at half-price.  I looked through the '59 Impala and it was complete, the bags were still sealed and it had the tires with it; however the Elky's tires were missing and the bags had been opened.  I suggested to the associate the '59 could be resealed.  I did not really need the Elky (I have two in my stash), but she is going to mark it 50% off and put it on the shelf "as is".  I guess the point I am trying to make is that it is possible some pilfered kits could be resealed by the store and put back on the shelf, especially if the store manager is more concerned with bottom line over customer service.

I know it's almost impossible to believe in this totally enlightened fairy-tale age of rainbows and unicorns where everyone seems to live by the golden-rule, but some people actually still are crooks, pure and simple.

It's not uncommon to see posts on the model boards of some innocent acting clown asking how to re-seal kit boxes so they look like they've never been opened. So...ummm... just exactly WHY would you want to do that, sir?

And it's nothing new. When I was 11 or 12, I got a petroleum tanker (ship) kit as a gift. Sealed in the crinkly cellophane they used back then. Opened it up, it was partially built, glue smeared over parts, other stuff missing and broken, some parts painted...poorly. Showed it to my parents who took it back to the store to complain. Of course the store denied the very possibility that THEY would sell a re-sealed kit, so the kid (me) must be lying after having f'ed it up himself.

Guess who got to take a whipping for lying?

....over a period of say 48 years of modeling cars, and other interests at times as well,,,,i would say  at least a dozen times on the missing parts question. as far as broken or damaged.....several times on that one. an interesting note for some of us old guys who will recall,,,Johan Models at one time in the late 60s and into the seventies actually included a parts checklist on some instruction sheets so that the customer could send it in with the related boxes checked off, so they could send you the parts right out. it seems I regularly was astonished to find my  Cragar  wheels, slicks,  or race headers missing...lol....darn.......the Ace......

Wait. You opened the box and showed it to your parents; obviously you wouldn't have had time to do all that damage to the kit, but they refused to believe you and beat you for it? Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Just opened the box on a sealed brand new Moebius Plymouth Belvedere and the decal sheet is missing, the body is also warped big time but that's another subject!......
