I made them.

Cut the center from an old MPC 4X4 Dodge pickup 8 bolt wheel and replaced it with the center section from a 5 bolt wheel and cast a few.

Bought this '69 Charger cheap at the local toy show last month. I just finished restoring it--finished pics in Under Glass soon, I hope. It didn't come out half bad. These, of course, are the "Before" pics.

One or two of you Cobra fanatics might have seen this one on ebay, a cheap 95% built 16th scale MPC parts pile that was missing the driver's side door. Thought it would be a low-cost gamble (if the color really was what it looked like) to possibly add to my otherwise all-diecast Cobra collection, as being an increment larger than the 18th scale Shelby Collectibles one I have. Judging from the underside of the body, the color was originally a deeper blue, but it has now yellowed slightly to what is more of a subtle teal-to-blue fade. So what I'll do is fab up a new door out of aluminum sheet and leave it unpainted - to simulate a yet-to-be-painted replacement for a wrecked door, since I have no color matching skill - and then polish up the body better, lay down some new brilliant white vinyl stripes, and reassemble it. Need to narrow those MPC front steamroller tires by a 16th of an inch or so, though ..... or better still, find a pair of matching tread rear tires from an 18th scale diecast that would be a tic smaller in both diameter and width.

Here are three recent acquisitions. The Elky and the Monte aren't all that "gluey" or "bomby" but still need a lot of work. I've now laid the standard Snake-Fu on them and you'll see them Under Glass as soon as I can get them photographed and written up. The '72 Chevelle is a real mess. The orange paint (probably hi-temp engine paint) shrugged off both Easy-Off and 91% alcohol--no afffect at all--and is even rougher than it looks in the pic. I'm currently working on sanding it off. I'm only doing this purely for the challenge of it, as the model really isn't worth saving. I just want to see if I can.

Yeah, me too. Reminds me of an MPC 66 Pontiac hardtop, a 77 Pinto cruisin van and a few others that I tossed because they had too many coats of paint and I didn't know back then that paint could be stripped off of plastic. I never toss anything out now, never know how it might be used in the future. 

This is a fun thread - I had to revive it.

Just nabbed this '68 Lincoln a few days ago. I'm pondering not replacing the forward part of the roof for the rebuild.  I am very glad that it came with the stock bumpers though.

Were ANY of those original issues ever built well from  the start? I've seen a lot of bad ones that look like this, never any that didn't look like they were built by a 6 year old. And they've always had the lights welded on. Did they really flip around, or is that a myth? Just asking.

Dunno about the flipping headlights, but I've restored two AMT '63 Vette coupes built back in the day (1963) and saved their original paint. No they're not perfect but they were clean enough to preserve as original "time capsules" of how things were built back then.

Got this on the 'bay years ago. 

Just needs an engine, wheels and some love. I haven't cleaned it off because I don't have the heart to get rid of those pinstripe decals.

Found this one a year ago in a junk box at a kit show. Original MPC 66 GTO.

Insurance company said it was a total loss - but at least they found the drunk driver that hit it!?

I got it because the scripts were perfect, mine was messed up years ago from too much paint, too much sanding and being too aggressive with the carving knife. Sooo....

I cut away the melted areas and grafted in my primered original. 

The red and darker parts are my butchered original. Whiter parts are the glue blob I got last year. 

And everything lines up!

And this prize. AMT 67 Galaxie, started as an old worn out slot car. Also found at the same kit show parts box. Found the broken body(in 3 places), hood, grille and rear bumper and glass.

(BTW - traded the other grille already, don't ask)

I've already fixed the body and am using a 66 Galaxie chassis, with the interior as a stand in until I find the right one. I'm still looking for the taillights, hubcaps and interior. I haven't decided on an original Ford color yet.

Yes, it's the same car.

Pat...WOW...!!!  Amazing saves...!    I have the same old Buick needs rear bumper and taillights...and the 67 Galaxie HT needs body and glass.   You done a awesome job restoring those bodies on them.
