bubbaman Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 how many of you paint the body using the box cover - i`m doin the 67 gto by MPC it comes in a beige color with blue on the box - don`t like the blue so white it will be
sjordan2 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 What difference does it make? It's your model to do with as you wish, and I'd I'll lay heavy odds that only a few modelers follow the box art.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Never followed the box art in my life.Probably never will. Steve
Drake69 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 RARELY do I ever build one identical to the box. I like to research pics of the 1:1 car in question and/or letting my creativity out of the bottle.
Foxer Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Never followed the box art in my life.Probably never will. Steve2X
Snake45 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Virtually never. If I've ever painted a model car to match the box art, it was pure coincidence.
Deathgoblin Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Once in a while, but not often. Usually just paint them however the mood strikes me. I'm doing the Starsky and Hutch Torino according to the box for the most part.
MrBuick Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I've done it once, but the box art was a picture of the actual 1:1 car.
bbowser Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Depends. If your replicating a race car or a (for instance) Daniels custom rod then yes. Stockers, seldom if ever. I do like to research factory stock colors to be believable.
slusher Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I have painted several like the box art but out of 130 or more built models that's not many....
Xingu Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 This will be the first one ever for me,... I feel like you are holding this kit for ransom, but instead of a newspaper showing the date you are using your phone.
CometMan Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I occasionally follow the box art, but only if it grabs my attention enough that it is the only reason I noticed the kit. Usually, I reference color charts, sales brochures, and photos to make my choice.
Harry P. Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Once I get a kit and open it up, I don't even look at the box art.
Chuck Most Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I feel like you are holding this kit for ransom, but instead of a newspaper showing the date you are using your phone. That's not the date, it's a countdown timer for a bomb. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But back to the matter at hand, no, I've never done a model to match the box art. It's temped me- there are times when I couldn't decide on a color and thought "well, it looks good in that color on the box, why not?". But so far I've never gone ahead with that idea.
Belugawrx Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I feel like you are holding this kit for ransom, but instead of a newspaper showing the date you are using your phone. I decided to chronicle the build for my own thread,....how long will this take,...IDK
