Carl, that happened in my general area. Stuff like that happens here almost every day, really makes watching the local news an "interesting" experience! What makes it really laughable is that there are always tons of people ready to come out IN DEFENSE of someone like that by saying "he was just hungry, trying to get something to eat".!!

Those must be some great Honey Buns.

Little Debbie Honey Buns are really good. Although, at $179/bx, they aren't worth the trip to stir.

There's a pot joke in there somewhere, I'm just to tired to go digging for it.

Heads aren't usually thieves......... and it's Crunchies for the Munchies! Everyone knows that!  :P

Ironically his cell mate will be calling him by that very name!

He will get no respect and will be keeping house for some body builder in prison!!!

I handled a homicide that occurred after an argument over the last hot wing.

Had a homicide over using the last of the toilet paper.

Responded to a homicide where one neighbor killed another for taking his newly snow shoveled parking spot.

That was just "a day in the life" where I worked.

Here they call nearly everything a "Major Incident", back home we called it "Wednesday".

Heck,  I would at least hit a Tim Hortons

There's usually a cop at every Timmie's at any given time.  I've never heard or read about any of them ever getting robbed...

and therein lies the reason behind giving the boys in blue a "break" on the bill. Win-win situation for all involved.

Can't do that here in NYC. The Knapp and Mollen Commissions made sure that not even "grass-eaters" (small graft) would be tolerated. Small "gratuities", like free meals, can lead to some cops turning into "meat-eaters" (big graft). One dirty cop is all it takes to make the whole force look bad.

So true.

Trouble is there are some corporations that include comps into the budget specifically for the services. 7-11 has a budget for "cop coffee".

I get the point of the commissions, I truly do. I've been in the business for nearly 37 years now. Hey, I'll take a deal just as fast as the next guy. Thing is, I don't expect it, or believe I'm entitled to it, and I make dam sure doesn't progress into bigger issues.

I'm what some would call a "professional". :D

Most times, I see officers paying just like everyone else.  I'm not sure what the rules are around here, or how rigid the enforcement is.  At the McDonald's up the street from me, I did see a handwritten sign taped up at the drive-through: "no free meals for cops!".  Maybe the manager got a ticket, or one of her relatives got arrested...

State and local laws here (NYS) prohibit cops from accepting any kind of gifts, gratuities or any discounts from individuals, businesses or organizations. It ain't like the old days when a cop on the beat could get a free meal at the local greasy spoon, get break at the neighborhood furniture store or get a couple of bucks from the owner of the jewelry store in his patrol area for "keeping an eye on things". All that is considered soft graft, which could lead to shaking down or robbing local shylocks, bookies, drug dealers and such under the guise of undocumented and unauthorized search and seizure raids. Look up Michael Dowd, the dirtiest cop in New York, the "Dirty 30", the "Buddy Boys" of the 77th Pct. There's also an excellent, and disturbing, film called "The Seven Five" which documents police corruption in NYC during the 1980s and early 1990s. I have family who are MOS and it pains me to see these dirty cops who tarnish the reputation of the greatest police department in the world. :(

Here in the 'burbs of Detroit almost all 7-11s will give officers a small coffee or water for FREE! Probably lots of fast-food joints, party stores, and gas stations do the same as well. Rarely ever hear about one of those places outside of Detroit proper getting robbed!

The best part is that the elected people that make and pass laws take large amounts of non-taxed graft for their election, strange how that works.

I was thinking about Shelly Silver while reading Andy's comment, Mark.  ;)
