LVZ2881 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 $3.69 - $3.76 a gallon for 87 here in vegas, depending on station location bought my wife a brand new '07 Dakota 2wd quab cab with the 4.7 V8 last june when gas was ONLY $3.25 a gallon...traded in an '01 grand prix gt that got 25 mpg avg with 140,000 on the clock. truck is averaging 15mpg. I'm starting to regret that decision, especially considering we are planning a 3000 + mile roadtrip/vacation in July!!!! I think it may now be cheaper to fly roundtrip to Oregon and rent a car!!!!!!

Dragon7665 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Just put in 50 bucks at $3.95 for super almost 3/4 tank full! Geez that's about a little over half a tank in my Caprice, and we're at $4.09 for Sup My Trk takes Reg, but it has two 20 Gal tanks, and I still refuse to use anything less than Uni-Cal76/Chevr/Tex/Exxon/Mobil.... Anytime I use Arco/BP/Citgo/Shell/Etc, all I get is crappy Half the mileage from a tank, and knockin & pinging from them blending it :) Guess we can't get too upset at Barrel Prices, I mean Ol' GW's got to pad his retirement fund while he can right(No Politics, just guessing what an Oil Man would do to keep his Security Team compensated after he's out) :P
kasteer Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Maryland Regular is 3.62-3.73 as of yesterday when I filled up my Jeep. I'm spending $100 a week on gas just driving to/from work. This SUCKS!
Joe Nunes Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Price went up 21 cents yesterday to 3.90/gallon for regular unleaded in Up North Michigan.
MrObsessive Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Guess we can't get too upset at Barrel Prices, I mean Ol' GW's got to pad his retirement fund while he can right(No Politics, just guessing what an Oil Man would do to keep his Security Team compensated after he's out) You can also thank our falling US dollar for the high per barrel oil prices as well. Everytime our dollar falls by 1%..........the price of a barrel of oil goes up $4.
Harry P. Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I don't know how the poor old oil companies can manage to scrape by when they're only making a few measly BILLION in profit every quarter. I feel so bad for them that every time I get gas, I give the attendant an extra $20 and tell him to send it off to corporate HQ. I know those expensive country club membership dues must be hard on the oil execs, so I try to do my part to help ease their suffering...
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Hi everyone, I'm a Sacramento State student and I have been consulting with some of my professors. I've comeup with a hybrid of past ideas which might actually work. I've e-mailed this out to many people and crossing my fingers that it will go nationwide. Perhaps everyone here can help? The message follows: Please read this entire letter to help lower gas prices. If you haven’t already heard, the oil companies reported record profits again last quarter. They earned a record 32.8 billion dollars and recently told US senators not to mess with them. You may be asking yourself why then isn’t our gas cheaper? Couldn’t they have just passed on at least some of the profits to help lower gas prices? Yes they COULD have. Then why do they price gas so high? It’s because THEY CAN. Well it’s time to fight back and there’s something we can do! Several years ago there was an idea to boycott gas stations for one day to raise fuel supplies and lower gas prices. It was a good idea but there were flaws. A one day drop in sales won’t really affect supply and profit. We’re not asking for you to boycott gas for longer periods. Besides, who can really go without it for too long? Instead, please plan for a national boycott of one station at a time. Let’s say we boycott Exxon/Mobil for a month. Here’s what will happen—their supply will skyrocket. With high supply and low business—they’ll be forced to significantly lower their prices. If they do that—the other oil companies will be forced to follow because of competition. After a month, we switch and boycott another oil company—say Chevron/Texaco. And so on and so forth. If we keep this up, the oil companies will get the message and know we the people mean business—fair business. So here’s the list we came up with…it calls for the monthly boycott of the big 4. Do NOT buy gasoline from these companies during the listed months. December—Exxon/MobilJanuary—Chevron/TexacoFebruary—ShellMarch—BP Stations (Arco, etc.)April—Exon/MobilMay—Chevron/TexacoJune—ShellJuly—BP Stations (Arco, etc.)August—Exxon/MobilSeptember—Chevron/TexacoOctober—ShellNovember—BP Stations (Arco, etc.)December—Exxon/Mobil Please repost this message—print it and pass it out—cut and paste it to your e-mail lists—tell all your friends and put it on all e-bulletin boards you can. Let’s get the word out and fight big oil!
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 HOw has the people of America elected a President who made his many millions with ownership (hidden) of Zapata oil and a Vice President with ownership (hidden also) Of Halliburtonwho have made billions by raising your gasoline prices. Bill Clinton fought the oil companies on this and the American public was so worried about where he was inserting his penis that they didn't bother to give him the credit he deserved. This little "rich kid" we have as our President should be impeached immediately if not sooner and so should his EVIL Vice President.
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 driving like we do. Too many people have poor driving habits. They seem to only have 2 positions for their foot ---on the accelerator or on the brakes. They wander around aimlessly, don't look far enough ahead of them to see that they are racing to a red light; passing everyone so they can be the 1st in line to race to the next light; fail to use the momentum the've built up for planned stops. The fuel efficiency ratings required by uncle sam are based on driving for optimum fuel effiency. But most drivers don't drive that way, so they probably pay 10-15% more than they need to for fuel and brakepads. And on the margin, that 10-15 % translates to a higher price we all pay at the pump due to the laws of supply and demand. In the meantime I'll just stick to my own proven ways of squeezing miles out of every drop and chuckle at all the idiots I see speeding pass me while I am coasting to the red light a block ahead.
Harry P. Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Unfortunately, there's no way that any consumer boycott of gas can work...no matter HOW it's arranged or carried out. The bottom line is, the oil companies sell a product that all of us basically can't live without. Even those people who don't own a car are still dependent on oil...from the buses they ride to the trucks that deliver the goods to the stores where they shop. Boycotting the oil companies is like a little kid threatening to hold his breath until he gets what he wants. His parents KNOW that sooner or later the kid will have to give in and breathe...so they just wait him out. And the oil companies KNOW that sooner or later we're going to have to go get a fill-up. Botcotting Big Oil Company #1 for a month, then Big Oil Company#2 the next month, etc., might make us feel better, but it isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference to any oil company...because while we're boycotting Company #1, that company can easily sell their product to China, India, and all the other emerging nations...at whatever price they want to, because the demand for it is there. This is a war that we can't win, unfortunately. The oil companies (and our own Administration, to a large degree) have us by the you-know-whats.
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Several problems with your solution. Refineries sell their oil to distributors who blend 'additive compounds' to the gas to stamp it with specific brand name. The gas that ends up at a Shell station might not even be from a Shell refinery. The refinery makes its profit no matter what distributor they sell to. If all of a sudden people stop buying Shell branded gas, the refinery will still sell their product to a distributor who will brand it and send it whereever. When you dont buy from a certain branded station, you are hurting the small business owner of that station. the oil companies own about 30% of their branded stations. That is a low profit business compared to oil production and refining. They would be happy to get out of that business if all of a sudden their gas stops selling Finally, I work for a BIG OIL company refinery and I own company stock. Let me tell you what our policy is regarding the price we sell our finished gasoline, WE SELL IT FOR THE HIGHEST PRICE WE CAN POSSIBLY GET FOR IT, PERIOD. This is otherwise know as capitalism which has served this country well so far. you want to control the price of gas, vote for politicians who will overturn our constitution and institute socialism in this country. Heck we are half way there already anyway
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Everybody is now talking about rising gasoline prices but to paraphrase Mark Twain, nobody is doing anything about it We want to do something and we need your help. Only the People can show the Big Oil Companys that we are the King and not they; they depend on us the customer and they need to know this! How we do something? Here is what we can do. Already Canadians and Swiss have implemented this strategy and their gas prices have dropped significantly. This is working in those countries now. The first phase of the plan is this: Everyone and I mean everyone stops buying gas from the two largest oil companies; Chevron and Shell - a boycott on the oil companies. This continues until these two companies lower their prices significantly. Then once the prices have been lowered the people resume business with Chevron and Shell. Now, a few things could happen this point....Firstly, Chevron and Shell may either keep the prices low (HA HA HA) or if they go back up then the people resume the boycott. As the world watches, so do the other oil companies. And they see that this too could happen to their companies. The people must take some real action to create the change. We can not rely on our own government to help us; especially when our own president is profiting so highly from these gas prices. Yes, it does take extra effort to find other gas stations. But how much longer are you willing to accept these prices and let these oil companies gauge and pillage our nation. When is it enough for you? I hope that time is now. We are a nation of great pride, compassion, and creativity and this action is not against the essence of true American beliefs but in support of it. The forces that be now that are running the country now are not what America is about or the ideals that it was built on. We must join together to make a change. Send this email as to many of your friends as possible. The greatest force for change is word of mouth.
cruz Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Filled up in WAWA this morning @ $3.77 mid-grade. Went in for coffee and a doughnut and as I was heading back to my truck it jumped up 30 cents
Harry P. Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 The old joke about filling the tank on your old beater doubling it's value has never been so close to true!
gasman Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I got the oil changed in my truck this morning. that cost $32 and change with a discount. I'm driving the least amont I can right now. I have a 38 mile round trip to school 4 days a week. and luckly only a 3 1/2 mile round trip to work 3 days a week.
MR BIGGS Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Filled up in WAWA this morning @ $3.77 mid-grade. Went in for coffee and a doughnut and as I was heading back to my truck it jumped up 30 cents REMEMBER THIS IS THERE MODO... WE SELL IT FOR THE HIGHEST PRICE WE CAN POSSIBLY GET FOR IT, PERIOD. AND THE SAD PART IS OUR GOVERNMENT LET'S THEM DO IT CAUSE THEY ARE PART OF IT. SCAREFACE SAID IT BEST( THIS COUNTY IS LIKE A BIG P@$$^ JUST WAITING TO GET F#^%##. YOU CAN FILL IN THE REST. YOU GUY'S REALY NEED TO SEE THIS. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN OPENED MIND http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
Bainford Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 $4.71 /US gallon here. Sorry Mr Biggs, but I can't subscribe to your theories. First of all, gas is not expensive..... yet! Five years from now you will look back and think "Four bucks a gallon...I wish." We are only scratching the surface regarding fuel prices. Besides, there may be an upside to high prices. It just may be the 'kick in the @$$' that we as a society need to get serious about reducing our dependency on petroleum. Like it or not, this has to happen, and it has to happen soon. Fighting to reduce fuel prices may bring a brief respite, but in the end it's a fools errand. I suggest you concentrate your efforts on finding ways to reduce our petrol habbit, rather than the eventually fruitless task of slightly reducing its cost. You will then be the champion of a cause worth supporting (and forget about ethanol, it's a global disaster waiting to happen). Good luck and good health.
gasman Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I agree with you ethanol. its as bad as gas, its about 40 cents cheaper. but majority of the cars on the road can't run it. and the ones that do with the use of E85 will actually get worse MPG's. which means the cost of the fuel comes out to be about the same with gasoline and ethanol. some vehicles are getting single digit MPG's running E85. here's edmunds gas V. E85 comparison. Edmunds E85 V. gas
