Rob Hall Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Panamera become the first 4 door automobile tooled by Revell of Germany since way back into the early 1990s when they did that M-B Wagon and the BMW 325i & 740iL?There was a RoG Mercedes S-Class about 15 years ago...and an A-Class.
BVC500 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I'm happy with the Panamera and DB5 (if this is a new tool). It's nice to see a more mundane car, if you can can a Panamera turbo mundane in the grand scheme of things, produced. I don't want just all supercars to build.
Luc Janssens Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Good gosh I hope not. It's not the absolute worst kit in the world by any means, but that's gonna wind up being a huge box of disappointment for a lot of people if it is...way way basic curbside, and looked old and somewhat substandard - particularly in the chassis and interior areas when it was released 20 years ago."Zumindest ein paar Highlights bei den Formneuheiten möchte ich erwähnen"which roughly translates to:"pointing out a few NEW TOOL highlights"I doubt if it is going to be a old Doyusha release, it doens't make sense. So let's hope for the positive and hope it is also going to be a new tool, I mean, RoG has done quite some new tools in the past couple of years with older cars, so why not?
Junkman Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) In this case I could hardly be happier if proven wrong. Edited January 2, 2017 by Junkman
Rob Hall Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) At first, I was thinking it could be a reissue of the Aston-Martin Revell and Monogram had previously issued, but that was a DB4 and not a DB5...(ex-Aurora tooling?). So a new DB5 tooling would be nice...a DBS and a DB9 would be great to see also. Edited January 2, 2017 by Rob Hall
The Creative Explorer Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 In this case I could hardly be happier if proven wrong. And I couldn't be happier if I were right.....hahaha As Luc mentioned; the German IPMS did mention new tooling highlights ( I missed reading that at the German site), so the odds are with us!
Junkman Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Seeing that the German IPMS is pretty much the beta platform for Revell,we could finally actually have something to look forward to.Was about time.

I wonder whatever happened to the Aurora DB5 tool--or was the DB4 converted to 5 and then back after the Spy Car run? In other news, I wonder what they think the market will be for a 1/32 EMPI Imp? I'd like to see the 1/25 back, but can't see much use for one in 1/32. If they want to reissue American 1/32s, How about the '68 Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, Javelin? You could put me down for one of each, especially if they bothered to tool up some decent wheels/tires this time around. And I know that the ex-Aurora (1/32) '65 GTO and Barracuda tooling still existed as late as the '80s or even '90s, because I bought some of them new at that time.
niteowl7710 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 There was a RoG Mercedes S-Class about 15 years ago...and an A-Class. But those were both running of other people's tools. Protar and Fujimi respectively.
Rob Hall Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 But those were both running of other people's tools. Protar and Fujimi respectively. Interesting...didn't know that. Protar, I haven't heard of that brand in a long time..
niteowl7710 Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Interesting...didn't know that. Protar, I haven't heard of that brand in a long time..That S600 came out boxed from Protar, Italeri, Academy and Revell of Germany. But I think (I could be wrong) that Protar tooled it up in their final days when they were Protar/Swift. I have no idea who has the tooling now, possibly Italeri?

Round 2 is releasing the Mustang in 1/32nd scale, that's one down and a bunch to go. ;-)

But I think (I could be wrong) that Protar tooled it up in their final days when they were Protar/Swift. I have no idea who has the tooling now, possibly Italeri? Bought the Protar kit when it came out, and built it too, it was BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, it didn't even last on the shelf, cuz threw it in the garbage can when one of the tires spliced. At that point in time the big ship Revell Germany was running without a navigator, cuz their car kits were terrible, $10 diecast looked better then their models, even when built with lot's of patience and TLC and unlike O.J.'s that protar kit at the time, fitted their product line, like a glove.I'm glad they re-invented themselves when they released the Ferrari 612 scaglietti (blue car on the box-art per Ferrari's request)

I was talking about the Revell '67 or '68, whichever it was. Yes, they had one at one time. I have an old one somewhere.

Yeah, I built a bunch of the 1/32 Revell Snap Tites as a kid around 1976...'67 Cougar, '67 Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Barracuda, Javelin, a Beetle...molded in various colors w/ chrome bumpers and wheels. They later released the Mustang and Corvette (and maybe others) w/ the chrome parts molded in gray. Edited January 2, 2017 by Rob Hall
Junkman Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Aurora definitely made a separate tool for the DB5 "Spy Car" body and 'special equipment'.Note that there were never any official JB007 connotations, so it wasn't licenced. This might be the very reason it never was reissued. However, if Revell issues a newly tooled one, which we all hope, it's no big loss after all.The DB4 tool obviously survived unscathed and has been seen last at Revellogram USA for the ca. Millennium edition with original Aurora box art.Roughly ten years before that, it was reissued by Revell/Monogram in a black box with a photo of a model painted dark green. Before that, it was released by Monogram in the Seventies in a blue/red border box with a silver painted model photo. So the track record for the DB4 is:Aurora -> Monogram -> RevellogramSo by all means, Revell should still have that tool. Let's talk about Airfix for a moment. They made a JB007 DB5, a DB6, a JB007 Toyota 2000 GT roadster and a Toyota 2000 GT coupe, all in 1/24.To my knowledge, all of these were released by MPC in the USA and haven't been seen since. The suspicion that Round2 might have those tools is ripe in me. keyser Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 , I thinkI think you're correct about the 4 doors, not counting the earlier DTM cars before the M3 the Audi A4. They're 4 doors in name only. The 750iL was an amazing kit, Fujimi enthusiast level, as was 850. I think they may have shared bits with Hasegawa on the E36 325i.We need E63 wagon or M2 now,
unclescott58 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 The only one I'm looking forward to here, is the EMPI Imp dune buggy. I'm okay with 1:32 scale nowadays. And next the Myers Manx, the Imp is second favorite dune buggy. So I'm glad to this coming.Scott
unclescott58 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Other than the Toyota 2000GT roadster, did MPC ever offer the other three Airfix kits mentioned above? I don't remember seeing them in an MPC boxes ever. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. I just don't remember it. And did any of the four kits mentioned above have the option to build them with left-hand drive? I'd really like to find a Toyota 2000GT coupe that could be build with left-hand drive.Scott

The Junkman Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) Look closely at the Papal Guard illustration. Something about the Pope.....may be trying to allude to something.Am pretty stoked about the 934 kits (if we ever see them on this side of the Atlantic), the Panamera, the DB5, but also new tool PT Boat!!!-don't stop there we need a Higgins 78ft-and a Revell priced P-51 Mustang. Seeing a lot of hopeful signs there. Edited January 3, 2017 by The Junkman

Scott The MPC folks apparently did not include all the JB007 gear in the 2000 GT kit. However, they threw in a clear bubble top the English original didn't have: However, it looks like you are partially right and I am partially wrong. The JB007 DB5 and the 2000 GT coupe seem to not have been part of the MPC lineup, which makes the whereabouts of the tooling even more foggy. However, neither of these kits had an LHD option.
unclescott58 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Thanks Christian for digging up info on the MPC Aston DB-6 and Toyota 2000GT convertible. Airfix also made Toyota 2000GT coupe. Very cool. I may have to see what I can find out about that one. A shame that they can only be built with right-hand drive.A question for everybody. Is the dune buggy Revell is bring back the 1:32 scale version? I forgot that at one time Revell also made a 1:25 EMPI Imp model also. In fact, I believe it came with a Corvair and VW choice of engine? Could this be the kit they plan on bring back instead? I hope so.Scott
