Scalper Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 I always kinda likes the Fiero's so here goes. It's going to be stock. Not sure on the colour yet. And starting now.
Belugawrx Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Cool,...my Dad had that car,...same colour...looking forward to the buildCheers
Johnt671 Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 That will be nice. I started working on an 84 to match my real one, and put it away for a while. I'll keep an eye on yours and maybe that will motivate me to get on it again. Here a picture of my 1:1 She has 232,000 miles on her.
D. Battista Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 My late brother-in-law had a few of these 1:1 .... funny I just dug this kit out today and was looking at it.... The kit was his also....I will be watching too....! Good luck with yours.....
kelson Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Looking forward to this build,it's to bad the real car only lasted 5 years or so.
Foxer Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I haven't built it but I do have a kit and it seems like something different with many unique parts. There's a white one I always pass on Rt. 9 in Cummington, MA, been under a tarp this winter. Will add interest for me watching ..
Nacho Z Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 In1984, a buddy of mine and I were stationed in England, RAF Alconbury and RAF Upwood. He brought his red fiero over with him. It was like driving a spaceship though the small towns. That car got a ton of looks. Even had a freelance driver/writer take it on a pretty hard drive. He said kind thigs about it but had hoped it would do more. It really was a fun car to tear around the British country side.
jefropas Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I just remember everyone getting the seats stolen because of the speakers in the headrest...my fav. was the last year GT...those looked great! Jeff
Deathgoblin Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I'll be watching this build. I've got one in the stash and I'm curious about how it builds up.
xbazzarex Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Have the same kit in my stash(just have to strip some paint off), the two tone color schemes were always my favorite.
Scalper Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Looks like there is a lot of interest in this kit. Assembled the engine block. Little flash fit together well. Going to paint it black when I hit the bench next
ismaelg Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Cool project!I recently found my built MPC Fiero GT with its brushed gloss enamel interior and spray can body. Hey! I was 15 or so at the time. It was coming apart so I disassembled it. Hope to rebuild it someday. Thanks,
Scalper Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 It's been a while since my last post on this build. Things are moving. Engine in it's cradle. Everything fitting perfect so far. Hosted on Fotki
espo Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I'm glad to see you're back after this one. It looks like a good kit and an interesting subject. I looked at the Fiero when it first came out. Problem is I'm 6'3'' and the console held my right arm at such an angle it was hard the shift. Also the top of the windshield was in the line of sight so that was a problem. Still they are well engineered and I have always liked them. Looking forward to see your build on this. If you should change your mind there are many who have put Cadillac Northstar engines in these.
Jantrix Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I've always Liked them too. I saw one recently turn an 11.5 at the local dragstrip on a test and tune night. Very impressive. It beat a Hellcat.
bamadon Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I had one as well. I put 160,000 miles and 2 engines on it before a got rid of it. 2.8 litre V6 and 4 speed. It handled really well and could sure surprise a lot hot cars of the time. I don't know how fast it would go since it had one of those 85mph speedometers but you could easily bounce the needle of the post. I don't know if you are going for stock, but if so, the engines were red including the intake and valve covers. Neat finned aluminum valve covers.
mustang1989 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I can't tell you how many of these I worked on when I first started working in General Motors dealerships back in the 90's but it was a lot. Neat looking cars but I sure hated working on them. lol. I didn't know there were any Fiero kits out there. Will be peeking in on this build for sure Andre.
Scalper Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 Thanks for the feedback. Took 3 coats of paint to paint the engine. Staying black. Another pic Hosted on Fotki
Scalper Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Great detailing on the wheels.thanks all I did was sand the rubber. Other then that that's how the wheels came out of the box No black wash.
thejunkman Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 As a sort of collector of Fiero's (I have one for each year and engine/trans combo) I have always eyed these kits, but they don't come cheap. Need some reference pictures? All finished and put back together My first one
Scalper Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Great pics thanks. They will for sure helpLooks like I'll have to paint the valve covers red.
thejunkman Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Great pics thanks. They will for sure helpLooks like I'll have to paint the valve covers red. Really that is the only "unique" feature of the GM L44 in the Fiero is the red valve covers and the unique intake manifold.
