Snake45 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Those pesky goats get everywhere, even in the salad. How about in the soup? 'Cause, you know, that could actually rock.
Tom Geiger Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Goat chops taste like lamb. So I got curious! I used to pass a Halal butcher shop that had a "Goat Meat" sign in their window.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Those pesky goats get everywhere, even in the salad. The one I posted looked delicious! This one looks a little closer to "road kill"! Steve
Snake45 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Just to try to drift back on topic, how about a Goat Glue Bomb? Before: After:
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Just to try to drift back on topic, how about a Goat Glue Bomb? Before: After: Nice segue Snake! Nice goat too! But it doesn't look "toasted". Steve
Bob Ellis Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 The main thing that I look for is what kind of condition the body is in.All of the other add-on's are meaningless in my opinion. If the body is relatively free from glue melt & not all busted up, I would consider it a re-builder.This one looks like the body is in fair shape aside from the cut out hood & the missing parts. But if you're planning on building it as a drag car or a custom it looks like a builder to me. SteveRear wheel openings are not hogged out, otherwise I might chuck it
Chuckyg1 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Ok, this thread has got me wanting to give one a try. What do I put in eBay's search for one. Any other places I could look?
1930fordpickup Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Ok, this thread has got me wanting to give one a try. What do I put in eBay's search for one. Any other places I could look?builtup or junkyard lotA swap meet is where you find the cheap ones anymore.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Rear wheel openings are not hogged out, otherwise I might chuck it I'm not much of a Vette fan. I probably would not have considered it in the first place. Steve

Tom Geiger Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Hey that's one of my models from when I was a kid!
Snake45 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Ok, this thread has got me wanting to give one a try. What do I put in eBay's search for one. Any other places I could look? You don't go looking for glue bombs on eBay. You go looking for the make and model and year of car you want, and the gluebombs (and clean builtups and big-$ mint unbuilts) will find you.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Meh. I recommend not trying to prepare it yourself. Eh, you might be able to just scrape off the burnt bits. Steve
Mr Stock Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Here's my latest glue bomb resto, I love doing these .....I guess I just like the challenge of rescuing an old kit no longer in production. Apologies to those who have recently seen it in under glass.
Slotto Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 This is an awesome thread. I love to see how others save a complete wreck.
Fordboy1975 Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 This is my glue bomb, it's my one of my dads old model kits he made when he was little, I'm very very lucky to have it. Anyways, this is what I have to start with. Missing some parts as you can see ? Argh where to you find cheap parts for a model kit worth 100-150 bucks nowadays?
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 I don't SAVE old gloo bombs, I MAKE NEW gloo bombs!!! Seriously, though, this is an interesting thread. -RRR
Rdkingjay Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 (edited) As some one who has always enjoyed a good 1:1 restoration, that enthusiasm has transferred over to certain models. And its a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to find storage for. My last resto was an almost freakishly built Johan Police wagon. I can only imagine that the builder may have been going with a certain theme. Perhaps something along the lines of Halloween or The Munsters. Primarily due to the paint job. But something about it grabbed my attention. I think it took about two years to re-do it, which included a chassis/engine compt. and drive train from a '64 Dodge. It now is representative of the paint scheme that our cruisers used on the Mass Pike from its opening in the mid 50's to 1968. Edited May 10, 2017 by Rdkingjay
Ron Hamilton Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I just bought my latest "bomb" on the 'Bay. A 1966 Rambler American 2 door hardtop. I got it cheap, and it was unpainted, has a mis-built 6-banger, and all of the scripts are there. It is missing the hood, wheelcovers, wheels tires and axles, and front and rear ends, which I have. I'll post it when I get it in my hands. A Zona Blade and a grinder bit in my Dremel, an x-acto knife and mini saw will be my best friends on this one along with a little putty. Depending on how it comes apart is going to determine whether or not I sacrifice an S/C Rambler kit for this one. The window glass is pretty hard to find on these.99% of the time, the glass has been glue-welded into the car. I have one already, and all I wanted this one for was some parts, but this one is better off than the one I have, so I may convert it to a 2-door post sedan.
FredRPG Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 Not picking on this build... Just using this pic for reference.... Actually it inspired this topic for me.I admire you guys who save these old glue bombs. Just wondered what some reasons are for tackeling a project like this or any badly damaged kit ?Me I shy away from this stuff..... I would rather start with untouched kits or parts. Maybe I'm just lazy..... but I probably wouldnt give this a second look..... I would fix up or refurbish my own builds when they get broken or fall into disrepair though....What is it about glue bombs that makes ya want to save Unfortunately my old eyes can't read this font, but from what I gather we're talking about glue booms yes or no. I'm just getting back into the hobby after many years and want to build some of the kits I glue bombed myself back in the 70's and although some nice people on eBay would be happy to sell me an old kit for $350, I'm much happier getting a couple of built models for lunch money and working from there. (Even though their not NM VHTF NOS or whatever other letters add up the $$$). From what I gather from all the different answers its just like restoring an old car rather than buy a new one, it's just in some people's nature..
