Jon Cole Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Well, looks like we can put to bed any notion of the Baja Bronco having anything to do with the Parnelli Jones Olympia race truck. Edited August 8, 2017 by Jon Cole
Darin Bastedo Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Anybody suspect that Revell released the "High Roller" so people would by it for the wheels and tires to upgrade the Bronco?
waynehulsey Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Sort of, since to me it really looks like the Bill Stroppe built version. For your reference.http://broncograveyard.com/g-12094-jeffs-71-stroppe.html
Daddyfink Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Yeah, that would require pretty much a whole new tool Edited August 8, 2017 by Daddyfink
Mr mopar Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Yeah, that would require pretty much a whole new tool I was hoping for this one .............. that isn't happening ! Edited August 8, 2017 by Mr mopar
Dave Van Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I knew a Big Oly from the stock tool was not happening......but maybe a stock class Baja racer was coming.....oh well
afx Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Big Oly and a stock Bronco share about as much in common as these two C7s. None the less I'm very happy to have the new kit. Edited August 8, 2017 by afx
Jon Cole Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Yeah, not exactly close. I was thinking of the Stroppe truck, just had the wrong name.Thank you Wayne for the photo link! That will be a great reference at build time!
maxwell48098 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I guess this new version explains the aftermarket dual exhaust and not the single muffler system that the original stock versions used.
Daddyfink Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 The Honcho looks like it was done up as an Homage to the Original Ice Patrol
Jantrix Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Looks like the the Roadster is getting the wheels and engine from the Coupe. I wonder if it will get the Deuce grille as well?I noticed that too. The nailhead was terrific. I hope it's not gone for good.
tim boyd Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I noticed that too. The nailhead was terrific. I hope it's not gone for good.Yep. the SBC is in the Roadster kit this time. The Nailhead will return too. Both engines were engineered to be used in both body styles. I am told that the Deuce grill doesn't mate with the '29 version for some reason, but it's a very easy kitbash conversion. TIM

I'm sure it's very easy, but it would be nice not having to buy another kit to do it, and the aftermarket grilles get pretty close tot he price of a kit once shipping is factored in.
russosborne Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Yeah. The only reason I had to buy this kit was the nailhead and the other parts, as I don't like roadsters.Guess I don't need to worry about buying it now.Way to f up a decent kit, Revell.Russ
stavanzer Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Russ, settle down, Man....... The roadster having the SBC most likely just means that the coupe when it re-appears will have the Nailhead. Nothing is "F up" as you so delicately put it. Just wait and see. Don't like roadsters? Don't buy the kit. Wait for the coupe. Tim and others on the board who have inside information, have hinted as strongly as they can without putting their status in jeopardy, that this kit will come back. When? The only people who know for sure (at Revell) have not said. I suspect that there will be no "Official" statement from Revell, until the coupe kits are on the boat, or about to be loaded.Look, Revell knows that the two kits (Roadster & Coupe) were both solid sales home runs. They know that the tooling issue caused serious problems for them. My best guess is that Revell is putting very heavy effort into restoring this revenue stream. Because that is what these kits are to Revell. Not Toys, not Nostalgia, not Gauzy Emotions. They are Revenue. Eventually, when the tooling is fully amortized, they could be 'profit'. And that is what Revell is ultimately trying to achieve.Alan
Rob Hall Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Makes sense they would release the roadster as a modified reissue rather than a straight reissue, more likely it will sell better this way rather than the same ol', same ol'.
mikemodeler Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 It will be interesting to see the Bronco kit and how Revell does the wheel flares. If the body has been changed, then the flares and panels I bought from Olsen Brothers might not be needed to convert the first issue Bronco kit.The Honcho will probably sell okay with the snowmobile, despite it being a very simple kit. Might pick one up, still haven't built the one from 15 years ago so maybe not.The High Roller makes some sense only if one wants some big mud tires, hopefully Revell pays attention and doesn't flub up the tires like they did in the old Mad Mudder Blazer kit.Sure would like to see some modern era pick ups or a new offering of 67-72 GM and Dodge pickups, I think they would be great sellers!
Richard Bartrop Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Personally, I think those wheels look really good on the roadster.
Dennis Lacy Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Makes sense they would release the roadster as a modified reissue rather than a straight reissue, more likely it will sell better this way rather than the same ol', same ol'. Absolutely. It's no secret that these two kits were designed to have their components interchange, those being the wheels and engines. Personally, I think that the blown Chevy and Halibrand style wheels suite the roadster more and the Buick Nailhead and steelie wheels suite the coupe more. It almost makes me want to take one each of the original copies I have and build them straight from the boxes with the exception of swapping engines and wheels (and tweaking the '32 grill from the coupe to fit on the roadster.) One thing's for sure, when the roadster and coupe are back on store shelves I'll be grabbing and handful more of each just for kit-bashing.
Casey Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Took this photo at the GTR Contest yesterday in Crystal Lake Illinois The best part is someone editing the 30+ year old original High Roller GMC image for the new version, right down to the visible rear axle truss. Jinkies!, this is a pretty darn good quarterly release.
Mr mopar Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 And the 69' Dodge Daytona is a Pro modeler with PE parts Awesome!
Rob Hall Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 And the 69' Dodge Daytona is a Pro modeler with PE parts Awesome!Interesting that they are bringing back the 'Pro Modeler' label...
Mr mopar Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 Interesting that they are bringing back the 'Pro Modeler' label...it is I thought they were dead !
lysleder Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I am trying to hold back on making investments in even more plastic, but a man's got to do what a man's got to do.I am on the fence about the Honcho. I have the "Pink Poison" issue in the stack, but are not likely to get around to building it. - But that snowmobile looks very tempting. And I have been wanting the High Rollers to come back, so one of the GMCs are on the shopping list. It is not the Chevelle, but I'm still very much happy to see it coming backNow, does anybody want to place bets wether that camouflage job is supplied as decals or not?
High octane Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Interesting that they are bringing back the 'Pro Modeler' label...I already have that Pro Modeler Daytona kit, so the only Revell kit that I'm interested in is the 3rd Quarter release of the '70 Charger kit. And of course I need another model kit like I need another hole in my head.
