martinfan5 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 The Dodge Neon and Olds Aurora were done as a promo at the time, by the same company. And didn't Polar Lights do the Holden GTO? I'll have to do some digging. But, I seem to remember buying one? Yes the GTO was done too by Polar Lights.
Little Timmy Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I read somewhere..... that there are more 57 Chevy's registered in California now, than were ever built in 1957 !I too am tired of the same old Camero's and 32's. I use to have an old Cadillac hearse that I took to car shows all the time. ( 2002 - to - 2010 ) And I got "SICK AND TIRED" of the winning car's ALWAY'S being Camero's and Nova's ( out of 100 or so car's at any given event 75 would be Camero's and Nova's!)I never cared if I won or lost...... I just cant stand losing to "The lowest common denominator!I will NEVER build a Camero.......unless it's a rust bucket!
martinfan5 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Generally, I don't, I'm waiting on the FE-3x version og the Hurst-Olds Cutlass kit, just bought the Foose Caddy kit a couple weeks ago, if somebody would follow the R/C market and make a version of the XJ Cherokee like my family has owned 5 of, I'd buy a case of them, if not more.I am hoping that Revell offers up a stock version of the Cutlass kit , I owned a 84 , light blue with the landau top and wire wheels, would like to kind of build a model of that POS.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 The Dodge Neon and Olds Aurora were done as a promo at the time, by the same company. And didn't Polar Lights do the Holden GTO? I'll have to do some digging. But, I seem to remember buying one? Snappers and promos are better than nothing, and with some effort, one could certainly make guts for what's available. Lots of highly skilled work though. Engine out of Revell's Shelby S1 for the Aurora, LS engine from a late model Corvette for the GTO...but I don't know of a source for the 2 liter Chrysler L4 in the Neon. Plus scratchbuilding gearboxes, suspension, etc. I'm already converting some earlier snappers, crapp diecasts and promos to full detail models with off-the-shelf kit parts for related vehicles, but it's a little trickier with wanting to build full-detail late-model stuff.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Yes the GTO was done too by Polar Lights. But just as a gutless snapper...right?
martinfan5 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 (edited) But just as a gutless snapper...right?Snapper?, Yes, gutlass?, I dont think it was. Edited October 20, 2017 by martinfan5
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Snapper?, Yes, gutlass?, I dont think it was. Looks like you're right. Based on y'all's answers, I did more looking, came up with this shot. There is something under the hood, anyway. Certainly a place to start. Thanks guys.

unclescott58 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I dont buy them. I am had no idea the model kit companies primary purpose was to make money, who knew a for profit company's goal was to turn a profit. And really, the model kit companies sell those kit to earn a profit, ? wow, that is really cool. Learn something new everyday. Please note the sarcasm in my reply It's amazing how many people don't seem to understand that. Sometime the obvious need repeating. The title of the thread is"Too Many '69 Camaros and '32 Fords." If person understands why? Why are they bring it up? They say, there no stupid questions. In this case I'm not so sure. Too Many '69 Camaros and '32 Ford. Of coarse there are. Duh.

I too would like to see a stock version of the Cutlass kit. Or at least a non Hurst version of the 4-4-2.
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I think we all know why the kit companies keep producing endless variations of the same kits.We don't need to keep hashing that one out.But while we all may disagree on kits that we would like to see, we can probably agree that there have been a lot, & I mean a lot of missed opportunities to maximize toolings & therefore profits. While I would love to see some more unusual kits from the 50s & somebody else would like to see a '74 Plymouth station wagon, & yet another a Dodge neon, instead of endless T-buckets & '69 Camaros, why not a few of these easy segues?AMT 1967 Chevy Impala - 1968 Chevy Impala.Monogram '55 Chevy Belair convertible/hardtop - '56 Belair Convertible/hardtop.Monogram '59 Cadillac Eldorado - '60 Cadillac Eldorado.Any of the '57 Ford kits - '58 Ford. The AMT 1957 Chrysler 300 could have taken on the many faces of any other Chrysler or Desoto model from 1957 to 1959.And one I'm still hoping for, taking the next step on the Moebius '55/'56 Chrysler 300s & moving on to either other Chrysler models or Desotos. This is not my ultimate wish list. They just seem like obvious "next steps" that never seem to materialize in lieu of another early Ford roadster. Steve
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I don't know the model car market half as well as most of you, but I can say there is a similar argument in the model aircraft realm, in which almost every other kit is an F-14 Tomcat, followed usually by F-4 Phantoms and F-16's. As far as modern stuff, I was very pleased with the quality of the 2006 Mustang that I converted into the Death Race warrior-machine.
slusher Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Many may be tired of the 69 Camaro and 32 Fords but now that it's been brought up when Hobby Lobby had their clearance not one 69 Camaro or Corvette was in the bunch or at least not at mine. What did surprise me was 6 Lawman models and 2 are still there with 2 Surf Woodys and that's it. I only have 2 69 Camaros and 3 Corvettes built in my collection but many builders love them.
afx Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 (edited) Heck yeah! Some good, modern, US kits! The Fujimis and Tamiyas of the world are doing a decent job on cars from Honda/Acura, Nissan, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc, but where are some high quality versions of modern American vehicles? Current model pickups SUVs Dodge Chargers Chevy Cruze Chevy Volt (yes, I too want to see that kit) Even a new Mustang or Camaro from Tamiya would be great. Beemax did a Touring Car version of the Cruze. Leave the decals off and you have a mean street burner. Edited October 20, 2017 by afx
PARTSMARTY Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 There's no such thing as "too many '32 Fords". SMH... -RRRRIGHT ON !!!
Mr. Metallic Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 What a lot of us tend to forget in our very enthusiastic but small bubble here in the hobby is that we are still not the main target of the industry. yes, they have provided us with some "fringe" and less mainstream subjects the last 8-10 years, but for the most part the market is full of casual builders who are most familiar with anything Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, 60-70's muscle cars and street rods. That's what sells to the mass market.

Greg Myers Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Too many of all of them as far as I'm concerned! Steve Yeah, build airplanes
Greg Myers Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Ha! Try being a kid in the '80s when every other kit was a Corvette! Even in 1/16 scale, too: Man , couldn't ask for a bunch of nicer kits. I like 'em all.
Richard Bartrop Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 And there's usually a reason certain things get popular, and it's not always because everyone else isn't as clever as you.Seeing what Revell has done with some old favourites, I think I could get behind a Deuce kit designed to modern standards. Stock, of course.
highway Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Yes the GTO was done too by Polar Lights. But just as a gutless snapper...right? Snapper?, Yes, gutlass?, I dont think it was. It was also issued by AMT, though I do believe this was during the time AMT also had the Polar Lights name. I did not know until I dug this out of the stash that it is in fact a snapper, though ironically it came with glue and paint! It is a full detail kit with engine although it is a snapper.

I built one shortly after I got back into the hobby about 7 years ago, it was the JL boxed version, and it too came with the tube o glue , paint and brush.
Daddyfink Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Ha! Try being a kid in the '80s when every other kit was a Corvette! I think I currently have all of these! I loved these kits back then and still do!
Greg Myers Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 I think I currently have all of these! I loved these kits back then and still do! Me Too, great kits then and now
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Thanks to all for the heads-up on the GTO kits. That's one I missed entirely.
