restoman Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I used a Revell Convertible kit as the basis. Lots and lots of filing, filling and sanding to get the body in any kind of shape, before the scratch building began, but I'm pleased with how it turned out. Lots of things I could have/should have done differently but it is what it is and it's ready for the cabinet. Comments always welcome!
mr moto Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 That looks terrific! Somebody should have kitted one of those by now but we still get to see one through your excellent work.
afx Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 I followed the build thread Mike - turned out great.
TooOld Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Now that looks really cool ! Things always go wrong when doing a project like this but I'd say it turned out great !
Atmobil Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Looks really good, I guess if the factory had not burned down so early we might have had some Heb's looking a bit like that in real life aswell.
Snake45 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Never seen one of those before, real or model. Very interesting and very well done!
DustyMojave Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Good job of adapting the later style bodywork to the Hebmuller style.
unclescott58 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I've never been a big fan of the Hebmuller cabriolets. But, I do like your take on it. Very nice.
restoman Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 Thanks for all the compliments! This was fun to do. I've been a 1;1 Beetle owner since '94 and have repaired/restored literally dozens of the air-cooled wonders. It's always been in the back of my mind to build one of these - full scale - but this is likely as close as I'll get to that plan. Thanks again!
