afx Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 (edited) Thank you. The build is intended to be a mid-to-late '60s racer so let's call it a "custom" hood scoop. Edited March 15, 2018 by afx
W-409 Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Just as JC posted the reply above, I was typing here that luckily the scoop looks like someone could have fabricated that himself even though it came available for production cars later on.
mustang1989 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Man JC! This build is taking such good shape that it's blowin' me away bud!! Dang this thing is lookin' good.
afx Posted March 18, 2018 Author Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Thanks Joe and Niko, for backing up my story. Of course a gasser wouldn't run a stock fuel tank. However I wanted to add a filler cap at the rear for additional interest. Did some wheel detailing: spayed the fronts with Tamiya Smoke to tone them down, sprayed the our rims at the rear with Tamiya Silver Leaf and detailed the lug nuts. Edited March 18, 2018 by afx
Snake45 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 If you're looking for little details to add interest and accuracy, I have an easy one for you: You could scribe in the separation line between the front fenders and the rocker panels. And maybe lesser, more subtle ones between the rocker panels and the rear quarters. Vintage model car bodies almost never have these lines on them.
afx Posted March 18, 2018 Author Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) I drew the front fender panel line on the body before I primed and didn't like to the look so I choose not to add it. Appreciate the suggestions though. Edited March 18, 2018 by afx
afx Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 Only a mist coat but here is the color: Model Master - Fifties Aqua.
Reeves Racing Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I've been looking forward to color JC. Looks perfect.
cobraman Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I recall a real car very much like that on the streets of Oak Lawn, Ill. in the early 70's. It was called Suspicion and ran a 327 Chevy if I remember right.
afx Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Thanks guys. A small block Chevy - NOOOO! More painting to do but couldn't resist a quick mock-up.
Geno Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Period correct color scheme looks great JC, keep it rockin'. Geno.
mustang1989 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I'm really liking that color now that you've got it mounted up on the chassis. Looked "Bad A" man.
mk11 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 That's beautifully set up, JC Now it looks like those front wheels could benefit from some of that silver leaf mike
afx Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 (edited) Thanks guys. Color is close to "Aquamarine" . Edited March 22, 2018 by afx
Casey Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 The color works very well with the Falcon body, and really, that's what counts.

afx Posted March 26, 2018 Author Posted March 26, 2018 Appreciate the suggestion Andy, but I'm happy with my choice.
alan barton Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Hi JC, I've been very much enjoying the progress on this model so far. I have an early Falcon that had a front clip transplant sitting waaaaaay at the back of my bench, eventually to be a period high school custom. I thought you might like to see this 60 that I spotted in a tourist town just out of Phoenix back in 2014. I suspect it had a Chevy in it, you needed a stepladder to climb over the camshaft but he was already quite a distance from the suburbs high up a mountain and he wasn't afraid to drive it! The stance is remarkably similar to your project. Hope you enjoy it. Cheers Alan
afx Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) Thanks Curt. I applied another coat of paint and just letting it cure. Thanks for the pictures Alan. I added a resin tach to the dash (from Scenes Unlimited) and painted the rear bumper similar to your photos. Edited March 27, 2018 by afx
alan barton Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) Happy to be of help JC. I had an instant sense of deja vu when I saw your mock-up and figured you would get a kick out of it. Cant wait to see yours finished. And is it just me or do those graphics on the real car look like old AMT decals? Cheers Alan Edited March 27, 2018 by alan barton Technical booboos
Snake45 Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 You are making me want to do something similar with a JoHan Rambler American glue bomb I picked up a few months ago.
