427 Cobra (street car)

First time posting here, I haven't been finishing many models the last few years (starting lots of them but not finishing). I thought maybe if I posted a few it might get me going to finish them. Here's the first one I have, probably the closest to being done. Need to finish interior, engine and a bit of detailing. Love to hear your thoughts.

Pat ,  looking good so far.   wire   wheels   were more common on 289  cobra's.   the   427 cobra's  were shipped   with  wire wheels  put on backward  with a 3 -eared knock off to clear  big brakes.  then 7.5 halibrands were installed when delivered.

but what the hell ,it's just a model. put what you like on it.  let's   see some more!

You can paint the emblems or use the Keith Marks or old Fred Cady decals.

Thanks 65slotcar, I didn't know that about the wheels, I just put the wheels on from the box.

Nice looking build Pat, and if you can finish this one then you will find that other builds will get finished too. You've got a good comment from cobraman ( Ray ) and he's the man when it comes to Cobras, so go for it !

A 427 would shred the wire wheels, if I remember my reading from the past.   Therefore the wires weren't used on the 427 cars.   No big deal as it is just a model .  And it looks really good.  Stay on it.

A little tangent: I wonder if they made any Cobra models with the suitcase trunk.

Someone make a resin body like that but I can't recall who. I bet AFX will know if he see's this question.

Should mention that is an FIA Cobra and the additions on the trunk are so a suitcase would fit in the trunk. I need to get a body also. I have a lot of Cobras but no FIA ones. I gotta remedy that !

Scale Coach Works has a trans kit or used to. Good luck finding one however. There are also some complete resin kits available but they are in the 300.00 dollar range.

HRM makes a complete kit of the FIA Cobra with the "suitcase" trunk.  Its showing as in stock right now on Model Builders Warehouse website ( https://www.modelbuilderswh.com )

Scale Coach Works.  The FIA roadsters didn't have suitcase bumps at the beginning of the '64 season they were added to some (not all) the cars when they were sent to Europe (later in the year) to comply with the FIA rules of the time.
