Impalow Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) Something kind of cool happened for me recently... wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? I finished my custom foose truck with chrome reverse wheels with "color chrome" centers..... its a look I've loved for a long time and remember seeing in various vintage magazines. When it came time to upgrade the tires on my 1:1 scale impala, I decided to just copy the look... I cant guarantee I would have thought of this if I hadn't just built the truck. Its an odd combination for the car, and something I hadn't seen before anywhere, yet I was quite confident it would work based on the model. Also I love how a vehicles perceived image can be changed so much by wheels and tires... I'll keep the wires so I can easily swap back and forth from mild custom to lowrider when the mood strikes me. Man I love your Impala. I had a '66 Impala SS that I bought new and have always like the looks and lines of the '65 and '66 bodies. The wheel treatment on your chrome wheels goes back to when there was very few affordable options for a daily driver. Rod & Custom Magazine had an article about the treatment you have done. Besides the solid color they also suggested using a tinted clear over the chrome mush like a candy Paint job. The chrome Spiders are perfect with the chrome valve caps. Sometimes "old becomes new" again. Take good care of your beautiful Impala.
GMCMAN52 Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Really like the look the chrome reverse wheel give it. brings me back to a great time in my life
JollySipper Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 That's a beautiful car, Man......... Have you built a model of it yet? I like both looks! but you just can't go wrong with chrome reverse..............

BigTallDad Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Stellar work on the 1:1 as well as the model, but I'm an old coot and don't understand what "'color chrome" centers" are. Is that a prismatic paint, or what?
Robberbaron Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Looks good! Let me also give you props for painting your front pan body color, which I almost never see on '66 full-size Chevys. It's pretty obvious the stylists intended it to be body color, but I'm sure the bean counters were instrumental in having the factories painting them all silver (argent?) instead.
1972coronet Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Gorgeous Imp ! I recognise the "Juvie Knob" shifter ... did you make that ? Your B-bod reminds me of the kinds of Lowriders I'd see where I grew up : nice , clean lines , with tasteful custom touches .
Joe Handley Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 You inspired me to buy the Foose F100 with your build, also now know what I want to do with the Revell Lowrider Magazine Impala I bought tireless almost 2 years ago!
DeeCee Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) Great work, those new wheels look great, and so does your Foose build. i once painted a model to get the painter to believe my idea would work. And recently,, as i like doing lowrider paint jobs on models, i thought i could do the roof on my 1:1 ute, it was a lot more work than a model, but well worth the effort.. Is that a prismatic paint, or what? Color chrome is a term that goes back to the "old coot" days. It's candy paint on chrome parts, giving it the look of colored chrome. Geo. Barris used to market spray cans back then specifically called "Kandy Kolor" so it's not a new idea. Edited May 19, 2018 by Oldcarfan27

I started one back in 98 before the revell kit came out.... now ive been stockpiling kits, but the real car is never done, so I never know when to start building. Thank you!! yes that drove me crazy! Its a subtle thing, but removing the bumper guards and painting that makes the car look about 10ft wider and sleeker. I purchased it several years ago... along with all the other laminated knobs... its about the only one left. The interior is my baby on this thing.. lots of work in here. (the center console is also model inspired AMT 1956 ford? I think? ) On 5/19/2018 at 5:04 AM, DeeCee said: Great work, those new wheels look great, and so does your Foose build. i once painted a model to get the painter to believe my idea would work. Fantastic job on that... A little part of me wants to try that on something someday.
