ChrisBcritter Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Anyone else notice that in the last couple weeks, eBay has stopped displaying full-page completed listings, and instead shows a "related" current item? Thanks a lot, guys. Just now I was bidding on a '60 Chevy pickup (got outbid - if somebody here won it, congrats) and the instant the auction ended, the page switched - by itself - to show an el-warpo '60 Chevy wagon promo (yeah, no thanks ). The completed listings were a great source of photos and other info; guess it was too good to last.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Yeah...I noticed, and I sent them a nasty note about it too. There is a little fine-print blurb in the upper right hand corner of your main page that says "tell us what you think". I suggest you do. If ENOUGH people complain, they might return things to the way they were. Obviously their algorithms are too stupid to "suggest" anything actually relevant, and their legions of dweebtard developers are too stupid to realize it. A swift kick from the USERS might get the attention of someone with a functioning brain.
mchook Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 (edited) I noticed this too, but I did find out that if you click on the word "listing" in the blue line reading "The listing you’re looking for is no longer available. Check out this similar item we found for you." you can see the original listing. Nobody will tell you this at ebay, but it works. Edited June 6, 2018 by mchook

The constant tinkering over there trying to "enhance the experience" (which is eBay speak for get-you-to-buy-more-stuff) just gets so damnably maddening sometimes, I wasn't paying attention. Since they and PayPal canceled the "pay after delivery" option, I've been cutting back on my purchases anyway. Having a two-week window (which they cut back to 10 days before they canceled the whole thing) was really a great way to avoid getting shafted by sellers who either intentionally or just stupidly misrepresented their items. Bucky Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Sort of a "bait-and-switch" tactic. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I wudda been thoroughly puzzled to see something totally different. I went and clicked on an AMT '66 Imperial kit auction that had ended, and it switched off to a junkyard AMT '58 Ford. That doesn't seem to be very "similar" to me!! HAHAHA
thatz4u Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 I quit using E-bay years ago, very happy that I did!!!!! my $.02

Still means more trash to wade through. Edited June 6, 2018 by ChrisBcritter

I regularly bookmark various listings I like of old/rare just to see what the high bid ended up, and for a short time I thought it was an unusual number of guys who had yanked their auctions before the end. Deleted several of my bookmarks in frustration, but once I saw "the listing" word as a clickable link, I was able to re-load the deleted pages out of my links history pile. Evil bay ...... still occasionally a source for cheap parts & kits if a person is patient enough to keep a longterm eye on it.
unclescott58 Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 I mainly use their app on my iPad, and have not seen the above problem. Thankfully.
TomZ Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 It's often really hard to find a link to "See Seller's Other Items" now also. Sometimes the only way I can do that is by putting the first item in my watch list, sometimes not even then. The new format stinks also. Guess they're trying to make it large and simple for touch-screen users.

What I do (since the usual "visit store" option is not like the old way) is click on the seller's feedback score, which takes me to the page where I can click on the "View items for sale" link. Don't know what evilbay's problems is these days ....
High octane Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I've never been on EVIL-bay and guess I really don't need to either.

Mike999 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Repeating one of my favorite eBay stories, which should be true even if it isn't: when Meg Whitman left eBay and the new CEO took over, he gave an interview saying he wanted to promote eBay Stores and retail sellers more, not the casual sometime sellers. He also remarked, "Right now eBay looks too much like a flea market." The story says he immediately got several thousand irate emails, all saying: "It IS a flea market, you idiot."
Tom Geiger Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 eBay spends all their energy chasing Amazon's tail. The should realized at this point that they missed that boat and redirect their efforts towards being unique and different from Amazon.
niteowl7710 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I'm curious why some of you guys think eBay is in business to provide you with a historical free photo hosting site. If you see a picture of something, right-click save it for yourself. When you consider the sheer volume of pictures they host over millions of auctions have to constantly add server space to keep all of it archived.

And I'm curious why you don't know that they've always dumped the photos after 30 days for just that reason. Leaving them available for a while is a simple assist to somebody who's SERIOUS about buying a particular item, and might actually need to legitimately check exact condition, completeness, etc. of a "sold" item they were watching. The new retard-SOP of redirecting a user to some not-relevant substitute is ludicrous.
vamach1 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 The latest annoyance is when you bid on an item a pop us comes up asking if you want to bid higher. You try to close it and nothing happens.
