PatW Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) This is my eighth Manx (I wish I afford a real one!). Having seen the results of Hydro-Dip painting and researched and found the method on YouTube, I've tried it with this build. I've also used all of the covers/hoods and tops for this build that are supplied in the kit. I've also built the card diorama supplied in the kit. I've also raised the body on the chassis. cobraman Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Interesting. I have been toying with trying that dip process but the ones I found just would look out of scale. Yours looks good.
High octane Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Very nice Patrick, as I'm hoping to build a 'Vair powered Manx one of these days.
Dann Tier Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Nice, Pat!!…..you have yet another cool dune buggy!!
Snake45 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 I like the paint. Great combination of colors and it came out beautiful!
PatW Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 Thanks guys, yes the paint came out very well for a first time go. Here's a shot of the bonnet showing the colours .........
unclescott58 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Cool! I like it. I've got a Polar Lights Beetle I'm planing on trying the hydro dip paint technique. I hope mine works as well.
crazyjim Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Very cool.I've dipped a few bodies in the past.
PatW Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 Thanks guys. Further research tells me that it's also known as Swirl Painting and can use both acrylic and enamels.
jchrisf Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Looking good Pat! I think the swirl paint jobs were made famous by Steve Vai.
crazyjim Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Swirl painting was pioneered by Hank Borger - a FAST member.
OldTrucker Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Another great looking buggy with a different twist! Orange twist to be exact!
espo Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I like your paint treatment. I think it looks best with the white top. One of the reasons guys would raise the body or put spacers between the fiberglass body and the chassis was to give them a little more tire clearance when they would jump a sand dune. You could easily get airborne and when you landed the rear tires would travel to the top of their range and could easily hit the body, and it looks cool anyway.
PatW Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Thanks guys. Yes espo that's just what I was thinking!
geetee66 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I dig it, Pat! The paint job is perfect on a beach buggy. Very eye-catching and well done ?
PatW Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Thanks guys, I always like to try something new................. to me anyway!
