I picked this up yesterday for a good price and am looking to try to get a bit of the warp out of it.

I thought about disassembling it, attaching the body to a metal plate I have and dipping it in or pouring hot water over it. Anybody have any success straightening one and how did you do it?

i was able to mostly fix a warped hood using boiling water, but it slightly shrunk it because i kept it in too long. i tried just hot water from the tap and it wasnt enough to help, which is why i went to boiling.

i am not sure i would want to try a body from a promo unless you would be OK with the possibility of messing it up...unless you have done it before.

i will be honest, i saw the first picture and thought it was an optical illusion from a weird camera angle.

i hope you can get it straightened out

Thanks guys.

I wasn't too heart broke about the warp. I got the thing for $15. I'd pay that much for lunch without thinking about what I ate ever again, although the sandwich and beer I had yesterday for the same price was quite memorable. At least this way if it doesn't work I have the remainder of the parts to help someone else out with.

If you can't get rid of the warp, you can always cartoon the car instead for a dragster launch, with giant slicks & cotton material smoke, a 1/12 scale engine, etc

Thanks guys. Actually, I have removed the bumpers and taillights and I am using them as trade fodder for a set of bumpers that I needed. I still have the wheels and tires, full interior, chassis and convertible boot to use for trade So, it all works out.

I was going to say a George Barris-esque custom car would be the way to go!

I've used a food dehydrator to straighten warped bodies. I make a jig that allows the body to end up in the proper position, clamp the body in the jig, and "cook" overnight in the dehydrator. Tray to place the clamps where they will not cause another warp, however, and allow the whole assembly to cool off naturally (no refrigerators, cold water, etc.).

Your promo might require several iterations of the above approach.

That's a bad one!

I don't think that it would be possible to straighten that one out.

Problem is that even if you get it flattened out again, you will likely wind up creating more warps in other areas.

I would disassemble it, save all of the other parts, ditch the body & look for a good craftsman kit body.

You can sometimes find just a good body on ebay for $20.00 or so.

I see why this one only cost you $15.00. ^_^
