PatW Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I bought this..... But resurrected the decals from the ESCI 1992 Ford Escort MK2 'Clear' bodied kit..... And so far.............................
935k3 Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Nice job so far. I had that kit but I hate working with clear bodies
PatW Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 A little progress, the engine complete adding fine tubing as plug leads and 'bluing' the exhaust manifold to show heat from engine. Also added engine to floorpan and small interior items, seats, seatbelt decals (used my own as kit ones are black and wouldn't be seen ) plus handbrake, gear stick fire extinguishers and pedals. Instructions suggest these are to be fitted after the rollcage which is the wrong way round.
afx Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Always liked the British Airways' livery. IIRC it was a one off for the RAC Rally only.
PatW Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Cheers JC. Here's today's work.... rollcage fitted, then shave a bit off each side of the dash, so it slides in between the door cards........ Test fit in the bodyshell..............
Gramps46 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I like the way this is going and the interior is looking really good.
Anglia105E Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Nicely done Patrick....... those decals are looking superb on that car. I haven't built a clear bodied model car yet, but I am thinking of casting a clear body in Gedeo resin, from my mould of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Done two Ivory White resin bodies from that mould, but not clear resin yet. Your engine and interior detail is very good, and I had to cut off the outer edges of the Rolls-Royce dashboard to fit inside the side window glass as well as the door cards. David
PatW Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Thanks guys. The clear shell I've used earlier in the Ken Block Hoonigan car. That was the ESCI one from 1992. This white shell is far better in the detail department. Yes I'm pleased with the old British Airways decals, they laid up superbly well, plus a coat of Plasti-Kote gloss clear. The interior detail on this is good too. The rollcage fitted first time out, which can be a pain with some makes. Yes I've used the Gedeo white plaster for race/bomber seats and surfboards. I have the clear waiting in the box but haven't got round to using it as yet.
Tommy124 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Nice results, Pat! I like the BA livery too!

PatW Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 Thanks guys. Which are we talking about? This one or the Ken Block Hoonigan that I built with the clear bodyshell?
Dann Tier Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 This is looking killer, bud!!...cant wait to see more!!!
PatW Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Cheers Dann. I did a bit of work on the underside yesterday, Exhaust, propshaft, suspension, back axle..... Rear springs and control bars to go on. The exhaust was broken on the sprue and is very thin, so I took the copper core out of some old electrical wiring and joined the two parts of the exhaust that were broken. I also painted a bit of mud and rust on as well. Oh the propshaft was too short so did the same to connect it up with the gearbox but used plastic tube.
PatW Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 The wheels tyres are now fitted after finishing the suspension. I have test fitted the body and it looks low at the back so that is as a tarmac set up as the tyres in the kit are slicks! The ESCI kit had treaded tyres and sat higher on the suspension. The steering works a treat. No rear mudflaps are supplied but shown on the box art so I may make some.
iamsuperdan Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I love these old Escorts. Looking good so far!
PatW Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Cheers Dan. I hope to get the windows in today.
PatW Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 All done! Super kit nice fit. Just fitted non-standard Dunlop tyre decals, tyre painting on competition cars/bikes started by the tyre companies years later....
carmad1957 Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 That looks really good! Looks like it could be a fun project. What's your take on the Italeri kits? Never attempted one- Thanks for sharing!
PatW Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 Thanks Kevin, yes a nice well fitting and well made kit. Being in the UK and Italy not far off we see a lot of the Italeri kits and they are generally very good quality and well priced. This was about £25.
afx Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) Turned out great Pat. Fireball Modelworks offers a very nice wheel/tire upgrade set if you choose to build another. Edited November 23, 2018 by afx
Dann Tier Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 Congrats, Pat!!...it turned 0ut BEAUTIFUL!!!!
