Ron you have some real nice scores there.  I see you like the dog dish versions too.  I think the Chevy is my favorite.

Thanks,I have a ton of police cars, all different scales, and depts. The Nassau county car is actually a bank. That one i picked up at a swap meet in the fall. And which Chevy is your favorite?Do u mean the Caprice cruiser, the the Blue one or the American Graffiti car?I found that one dirt cheap, had to buy it. And as far as the “dog dish” look.I love any car or truck with dog dish caps.I guess that’s why I like police cars, and Mopars so much.lol

That is an impressive model of a unique Chrysler.  Is it by Signature Models?  Hope you get a chance for more pictures.

It is a Signature.

There were a couple other cracks in the back bumper so several areas had to be glued.  The mirrors are missing but it was less than $25 shipped versus $100

What I got today was an email from diecastmodelswholesale.com with some good 1/24 (-ish) stuff in it for a change. Some of the highlights:

'41 Chevy convertible (Welly), stock and two colors of lowriders, $17 and $18

Porsche Taycan Turbo S (Welly), white, $16

Nissan Skyline GT-R (Welly), white and metallic blue, $17

427 Cobra (Welly), metallic blue with white stripes, $16

'70 Challenger TA (Welly), orange or metallic blue, $17.50. I have one of these--they're 1/25 scale and REALLY nice, one of Welly's very best.

'63 Vette splitwindow coupe (Welly), red or light metallic blue, $16. I have one of these and they're pretty nice for the money.

2016 Dodge Charger R/T (Welly), white or black, $17. This is the ONLY late-model Charger in scale I know of--thinking of getting one.

DMW has a $9.95 flat rate shipping on any purchase to anywhere in the U.S. lower 48, pretty good deal these days. I think I'm going shopping!

Well, I just ordered a blue Skyline, a black '16 Charger, and--after seeing Mike C's--a charcoal gray Welly '65 Impala.

I'd like to try turning the Charger into a phantom 2-door. Have never done anything like that in metal. I guess I'll have to figger out how to scribe the new (longer) 2-door rear door lines in. Maybe a fine hacksaw blade? Grind out a trench with a Dremel, fill with J-B Weld, scribe the line into the J-B Weld? Of course I'll have to epoxy the original opening doors in and fill THAT gap with the J-B Weld. Hmmmm, this might actually be a do-able project.  We'll see....

Rich there’s a resin 2d around, JF or someone. Spend your talents on Snake Fuing. Jmho but you crank out. Cool idea though.

A while back, I bought a beautiful 1/24 Danbury bullet-nose Stude. We had one this color when I was a kid, and I saw a lot of the USA looking out that panoramic back window. I got a deal, as the little car has no papers or original box, and some very minor damage.

Studebaker Commander | Danbury Mint 1951 Studebaker ...

I'd intended to pull some molds from it to do a gasser, among other things, but the model is just too nice to risk buggering it.

So I rolled the dice on a Johnny Lightning version to use as a plug/donor. No opening doors or deck, minimal details, but the proportions look good in photos. We'll see.

EDIT: It'll be the basis for my Peking to Paris entry too.

Ace, that Danbury Mint Commander is a real beauty.  Glad you could find a JL for your project.

Seeing your thread on it was a big part of my decision to buy the JL version. Thanks.   :D

I got lucky, I guess. It's nicer than I expected.

I've been pretty impressed with the few Danbury models I've been able to get.

You guys are killing me.

After seeing the Chrysler Airflow above, I rooted around and found a slightly damaged 1/24 two-door by Franklin Mint (my model but not my photo).

Bent door hinge (not mentioned by the seller, but an easy fix) and a few other minor issues...but after fixing the door and a clean-and-polish, it makes a happy addition to my FEW diecasts of otherwise unavailable subjects.

I'm kinda surprised it's so nice. I have some Franklin models that aren't even close to Danbury standards, but this one doesn't miss by much.

True. Great model, was initial model of month or whatever. Were dirt cheap for awhile but such a nice model, 2 door, early styling, cool.

Wow!  Have you seen what these are going for?  Better get a safety deposit box at the bank for it. ?

I got this little guy for WAY less than the going rate. Being willing to take some damaged models has saved me a bucket of money.

Most of the time.

I have a sad little '55 Pontiac that looked easily salvageable in photos, but has the dreaded zymak rot. It'll be dust in another couple of years.  :(

Well, little car came in.

I'm always amazed that adults can measure the same thing, divide by 24, and get wildly different results.

Is it REALLY that hard?

The lines and proportions aren't horrible, though they're very noticeably wrong in many areas.

More disturbing is that the JL version is a good half inch wider and longer than the Franklin Mint version. Another rough approximation of "scale"? Seriously, if you can't do the work, why bother?  Get a job at Wendy's.

There IS enough meat in the casting to shave some of the bloat from the sides of the thing, to get a better initial impression.

But considering the TIME it will take to get it to where I can live with it, I just shoulda bought another Danbury.

HOWEVER...on close comparison of the Danbury model and online photos of real ones, it looks like Danbury might have taken a little "artistic" license too.

When I got my JL Commander I felt right off the bat that it was too big but did not take any measurements.  I think the designers of the JL model must have graduated from the JADA school of design.

I'm finding that this isn't at all uncommon in lower-priced diecasts. "1/24" can be anywhere between 1/21 and 1/27. I'd be willing to bet that JL deliberately upsized the thing so it looked sized more like the other cars in their line, hence worth the same asking price. Other times I suspect a diecaster fudges the scale to avoid copyright problems with a 1/24 model that they're ripping off.
