Gramps46 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I have a question for you Ferrari enthusiasts. As far as diecasts go I am familiar with the old made in Italy BBurago GTO but it is too big to be in scale. I am also aware of the Le Grandi/BBurago GTO diecast but the windshield surround is terrible in my opinion and would require modifying and repainting. Certainly there are plenty of plastic kits available, see Alex's Italian Horses database, and even the Western Models white metal body kit. But I am not finding any decent 1/24 250 GTOs. What am I missing? This is my old BBurago with a few mods.
Matt Bacon Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 You might have to go up a scale.... ;-P CMC 1:18... best, M.
Gramps46 Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Matt, Upscale to 1/18 would certainly provide more options but I am committed to 1/24. Gary
randyc Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I'm intereted in this as well. For a friend. I don't do much foreign stuff, but I got a buddy looking for Ferraris constantly. Especially diecast. He has most of the Maisto and Bburago Ferraris.
Zoom Zoom Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 For a 250 GTO in 1/24 I don't find any diecast that satisfies like the more modern Welly diecast. Best 1/24 GTO belongs to the Fujimi plastic kit in the affordable category, and MFH for a high-roller budget.

My sentence is confusing, it was a generalizing of Welly models being better than their competition, they don't do any Ferraris. If they did, they'd be a lot better than Burago for certain.

Geno Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 (edited) The only GTO's I'm interested in are of the Pontiac variety. Hey, I gotta mess with you guys a little. Peace and have a great weekend, Geno. Edited April 6, 2019 by Geno
Gramps46 Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Oh Gene, you have reignited the fire from 1964 when Pontiac stole the name from Ferrari.

Years ago I read a retrospective in Car and Driver about that '64 GTO comparison. Apparently the diehard Ferrari fans were so upset by that article, they fired off some quite nasty letters to them. The editors at the time decided they were not going to sit back and take it so they decided to fire back with some rather caustic responses of their own. This was a hallmark of C&D for many years as they could come up with some very hilarious responses! I think they've toned things down in recent years though.............unfortunately it looks as though PCism has set in and their responses can be rather milktoast at best.

I believe it was also eventually revealed that C&D was given a ringer to test--with a hot-tuned 421 in it instead of the standard factory-spec 389.
