ChrisBcritter Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) Calling this one... done, until (hopefully) a new chrome outfit opens up and I'll redo the bumpers: This was a less-warped-than-usual promo; as seen in the build thread, I basically cleaned it up around the edges to fix minor damage and minimize the shrinkage issues, touched up the paint, then laid on a boatload of BMF. Thanks for looking! Edited July 5, 2019 by ChrisBcritter
58 Impala Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) Nice job. Love big Chevys, especially the 58. As if my avatar didn’t give it away.? Edited July 6, 2019 by 58 Impala
MrObsessive Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Despite the slight warp Chris, that looks GREAT!! Another familiar car from my childhood as there was a neighbor that had one of these. And yes, most of these I've seen are warped beyond recognition, but you picked up a NICE one!
Tom Geiger Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 For comparison, here are a pair of '59s showing the typical warp. Yea, I own these suckers.
ChrisBcritter Posted July 6, 2019 Author Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) Thanks guys! Bruce, it's an original promo; this is the coin-bank version without an interior. I think that helped preserve the shape - the chassis is styrene and the coin box is pressed up against the roof so the shrinkage was fairly even. I repositioned the rear wheels, adjusted the fit of the bumpers (narrowed the rear one), added material to the front fenders and refitted the glass. Not perfect but better than it was, at least. espo Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Considering the condition of the body on this when you started it looks great.
zakdoggi Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 First one I've seen and it looks great. Thanks for saving a model that's as old as me!!
Can-Con Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Why wait for a new chrome plater to open up? Did something happen to Little Motor Kar Company and that new guy who started plating a year or two ago?
Cpt Tuttle Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 A rare subject to say the least, and your work have done it justice.
ChrisBcritter Posted July 10, 2019 Author Posted July 10, 2019 Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. Now back to the '65 Nova...
Jim N Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 Turning a bank into a model car is a novel approach. Great work!
Dominik Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 the typical warp doesn't matter - it belongs to those Promos. Love the 58 in all different bodystyles. Well done! well done!
