tbill Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Yet another project I shouldn’t have started just yet, haha. I bought this paint at NNL east when I got the pearl green, so, had to see what it would look like on something......., it’s different for sure...., tamiya pearl light red......
espo Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I have always wondered what that color would look like, not enough to buy it but now I might.
Snake45 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 "Light Red"? Looks pink to me. Or maybe Salmon, or Coral, or Melon, or some other euphemism for "pink."

Not available on the Chevies in '64, or at all in '67, but a cool color none the less. A similar color was available on the Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles in '61 called "Dawnfire Mist" and "Autumn Mist" respectively. I will be using the Scale Finishes version of "Sunfire Red" on an up coming 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix build. Steve Here it is on a '64 GTO Edited September 18, 2019 by StevenGuthmiller
Shambles Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Love that bodystyle. I think I've got an unopened kit of that Chevy in my stash.
bisc63 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Both those colors have potential! Very nice non-bellybutton-color for a 67 Impala. Will follow this one.
tbill Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 It is an interesting looking color , that I hope will ‘mellow’ some once the bmf is done and there is an interior color to blend with. Steve, what interior colors were offered with 1:1 cars that were similar to this color, any idea?
Bucky Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Great color, IMHO. It may change a shade or two after the clear is applied to it. Carry on!!

Steve, what interior colors were offered with 1:1 cars that were similar to this color, any idea? The 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix that I will be building will follow this example. Interior is white with a body colored dash and reddish carpet. Other options were the entire interior the color of the above dash, or black. Those are the ones that I have seen. Steve
tbill Posted September 19, 2019 Author Posted September 19, 2019 Thank you for that info. I kind of like the body color dash/carpet with white everything else, I think that may be a winner.
espo Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 I remember seeing a '61 Pontiac Ventura hardtop at a local car show that was this color with a white painted roof. The interior was original and was a combination of shades of the body color. This is one of those colors that actually looks better in person than in a photograph. An amazing side story on this car. The car was sold new in San Luis Obispo California at Kimball Motors. Neither I or the present owned know how it got to the Kansas City area. I have tried to reconnect with the owner to give him something that I think should be with the car. He still had the Kimball Motors license plate frames on the car. In 1980 I happened to be the sales manager at Kimball Motors. As it so happens I found a dealer advertising Key Fob that we would put the customers car keys on when we sold a car. I have wanted to give it to him as I think that would be a better place than at the bottom of my deck drawer.

The owner I mentioned had the paint treatment as seen on the Olds. As I mentioned this color with a good polish in the sunlight is best seen in real life.
tbill Posted December 2, 2020 Author Posted December 2, 2020 Had to bump this topic so I can find it again, as this is hitting the bench again.....finally......

I'm guessing that you saw my finished '64 Grand Prix build that I referenced early in this thread. I really liked how the color came out! The color came from Scale Finishes. Steve

tbill Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 Steve, that came out fabulously! I finally decided on an interior color for the impala, it’s tamiya mica red over the pearl light red ( pink). Needs some dull coat before detailing. Have some red flocking for carpet that I think will compliment the interior color.

TransAmMike Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Very pretty color Tom, works for me. And Patric, every time I see that Grand Prix I say WOW.
gotnitro? Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Glad ya dug this back out ! When ya sent the photo of the rose color at first I thought you'd been drinking the kool aid , but as always trusted your eye and let it play out ! The vibrant red should look good under the body color , somehow I was expecting white or tan
tbill Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 Thanks guys. Ya, I know it’s been awhile since I started this thing, Haha. was going to do a white/red interior, but wanted to be different, hopefully it turns out like I envision it. Stay tuned.....
