I saw an Andy Warhol decal for sale on a Facebbook Marketplace, but seller wanted resin / p-e wheels and resin hood to go with it (for the ESCI kit). I have 4 lifetimes supply of these badges, if you want any. Hey Kurt, I would love a set of BMW emblems, I've been keeping an eye on eBay, and my traditional hobby shops here in Europe, and no luck... I'll PM you. How'd I miss this one?? I'll definitely be following along! So far this is looking good and I too thought that all of these kits had engines. I have a couple of the ESCI kits, but the one kit the body has wider wheel well flares than the other. I think the wider flared car might be a later issue? They both have the same box art. Been there done that with moving! Took me a couple months or so to get back in the swing of things with building and it's still taking a bit of getting used to. I haven't attempted airbrushing anything yet as I need to hook up the accordion dryer hose to vent the fumes for the booth and then make some sort of outlet for the paint spray to be vented outside. MrObsessive, The esci kit I have is the sports version, I guess they used the same mould for the street car? David, thanow for the comment! Funkychiken
This was clear-coated a while ago - about the same time I did the body for the RX-7 It came out with only about 5 dust blobs, and the finish will be great after sanding and polishing, it's had 2 full coats, so it shouldn't burn through. now for that interior! Spottedlaurel
Great to see something unusual like this being built, and some impressive effort going into making it look good.
Italianhorses
Nice paint job! Love the M1 in white.
beeRS
Looking good in white. I like what your doing with the interior, by cutting out the seats.
PatW
Great old Airfix kit! Your doing a grand job sprucing it up! I was a race marshal at Silverstone when they had a one make series with nearly 30 of these on the grid mainly driven by F1 pilots. These were at the time one of the F1 support races at each GP! Funkychiken
With the Aston finished, I've come back to the M1 Still got to polish out and detail the body shell I've now cleaned up the interior tub as shown here
Funkychiken
I've cut the gear stick gator in half, sanded it to thin it out & stuck it back together, and i'll be using the dress pin to simulate the end of the gear stick, the white block is going to be the arm rest
Funkychiken
The reason there are gaps in the interior tub is because the seats were moulded in and awful. I'm not sure exactly how much you'll see when the kit is finished, but I'm on this path now! I'll be using a pair of 1:25 Corvette seats
Funkychiken
A new back board, the hand brake channel and the area for the gear stick are currently being prepped.
beeRS
Nice work. Those Corvette seats will look a thousand times better.
Spottedlaurel
Some great attention to detail there. Good to see it's still progressing.
Funkychiken
it's been a while, but the kit never left the bench, this is the progress on the seat - they are done...
Funkychiken
The seatbelts were made of 3 layers of 0.5mm thick styrene card, they are not perfect, but make a difference to the interior
Funkychiken
The kit did not come with door cards, just a plain blank side of the interior tub (which I cut out) So using some reference pics, I made these - with a mixture of styrene sheet & putty/filler. finished in primer grey & Tamiya X-
Funkychiken
Dash finished. There were no decals, so its a coat of X-18, and silver backed white paint into the dials. It looks better in real versus the pic, so i'm happy with it!
TimJ
Great work so far, the extra detail will make a big difference. I built on of theses OOB last year, while it is a basic kit it looks like a BMW M1 to me.
