Oldmopars Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 I took a short break from the De-Icer to work on my HDT RV hauler. But, I am back at it. I made some progress on the boom and turret. The turret involved several concentric rings to allow it all to hold together and still rotate. I added some bolts/nuts to the upper ring for detail. The boom is also in the works and I have the pivot box built too. I still need to add the hinge bosses and figure that all out, but I have an idea of how that will get there. Still moving forward. I should be able to get more done today. Working from home allows a lot of progress on these projects.
Oldmopars Posted March 27, 2020 Author Posted March 27, 2020 A little more work done. It is starting to look like something. I have a ton of work left to do on the doom, lot of hoses and plumbing, need to make the inner boom and the basket, etc. At least I can see the vision coming together. The boom swivels and the boom goes up and down. I think I will be building the hyd cylinder today.
Sam I Am Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 WoW! That pile of parts is sure taking shape. Looks great!
Oldmopars Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 I decided I need to get more done on this one today. I got the hydraulic cylinder built and installed and I built the basket for the operator to stand in. I have more details to add, but its a start. It is starting to look like something now. The boom does extend, the boom will rotate, and the basket swings and will pivot up and down at the end. I will post pictures of that at some point. 3 hours ago, Sam I Am said: WoW! kilrathy10 Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 My goodness, this is cool... Outstanding build... I'm loving the work you've done... Awesome....
tbill Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 That looks great, you’re really making great progress!
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Looks Amazing!! You have really brought this one to life!
Dutzie Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Thank you all for your service! I served in the Air Force as a heavy equipment mechanic through the 80’s. The first semi I drove was a C600 with a flatbed. Spent many nights on the flight line making emergency repairs to all kinds of equipment. K-loaders, stair trucks, you name it.
Chariots of Fire Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Looking pretty nice. Was the engine and pump for the de-icing equipment mounted in the very back in that area that has the grill?

I have been so busy at work I have not had a chance to work on it much.
Hermann Kersten Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 That's a nice piece of scratch build Scott. A square box looks so simple at the first sight, but it's quiet a job so that everything stays absolute square. The basket is also done very nicely. Hermann.
Oldmopars Posted August 19, 2020 Author Posted August 19, 2020 Well, Work has had me away for a while and so bench time has been slim. However I am home this week so I got more done on the Deicer. Sometimes I suffer from build fatigue, or ADD and I peter out when the fine details are needed. However I am not ready to give up on this one yet. I have a bunch of little things to finish, like fine some headlights and wipers. I need to add a nozzle for the basket. Still need a little weathering and it will be done. So, here is the progress after paint and some details. The boom extends and goes up and down while rotating.
Mopar - D Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Scott nice details looking forward to seeing it finished.
stenfalk Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Here unusual life experiences and unusual model building skills meet! What else should emerge than an unusual model? Fantastic Work!
gatorincebu Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Looking good. I like what you've done on this one thus far ! it's going to be one impressive piece when comp-leted ! Be Well Gator
CRUSADER2 Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 A really interesting build, great scratch building work!! will you build a scale B52 to go with it?

Thanks, but I was a C141B guy. A 1/25th scale C141B would take my whole room, and I am not that skilled.
CRUSADER2 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Don't under sell your self Scott, you build great models, this last one just go's to prove it, B52 (just kidding) but I wonder what a C141B would scale out to in 1/25th.
mikemodeler Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 This is looking great, love the scratch built details.
