Gramps46 Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 This is a Premier Products model of an 1958 Aston Martin DB3S which finished 2nd at Le Mans. The Brooklyn based Premier kit is often mistaken for the Merit kit which was made in England and was a 1955 Le Mans and which had a headrest flaring which the Premier does not, even though box art shows one. The challenge for this model is getting the wheels close to right. The Aston used a unusual offset rim that protrudes beyond the tire bead. I tried various things and ended up with Herb Deeks PE wire wheels in the kit plastic Dunlops. I did a test fit of Randy's MBW 3D wires but both the 1/25 and 1/24 did not fit unfortunately. Decals, not shown. for this model are available from Le Mans Decals though they are too big and need to be reduced. 3
Rich Chernosky Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Interesting model you got there Gary. Probably pretty rare. I notice there is no tape over the right headlight or its missing its cover. Was this done on purpose. I know stuff falls off in a race.
Gramps46 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 Good eye Rich. It just fell off the headlamp and I have not replaced it.
Dave B Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 That looks great Gary, it would have to have been taken off the Merit kit. Dave B
iBorg Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Quote The challenge for this model is getting the wheels close to right. Nope....the challenge is finding the kit.

Dave B At one time I had both kits and compared them and thought there were enough differences to have been separate kits. Now I look at the picture of the kit in the box above and it has the headrest on the body! Now I just don't know.
Phildaupho Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Very nice to see. I love how you photographed the models.
Gramps46 Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 Thanks to all for your nice comments. As for the photos they are mostly old film shots which I enjoyed doing.

1959scudetto Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Rare model of an equally seldom seen subject, Gary - the car leaving the pits in the rain could be taken for real!
Pierre Rivard Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Wonderful build Gary. Always such a pleasure to see what a good researcher / builder can do with these vintage kits.
Anglia105E Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I really like your 1958 Aston Martin DB3S, Gary, and the photo of the car leaving the pits in the rain is just perfect ! Those Merit kits are quite interesting, and your Premier Products version is even more interesting.
