The AMT ones are probably not the ones you are wanting but the offer stands. ?

Ray, I need the HRM hardtops, just haven't got hold of Harold yet... Really want one for the Dragonsnake.  I got a box full of the AMT kit tops..

Gary...this is my original Cobra build from 1965. Model is kinda showing its age but for a 55yr old it held its own. This kit holds many memories for me and it includes several firsts in my modeling career. Open doors with hand made hinges, flocking for carpet interior, wired engine using carpet thread. I used the chassis and engine out of an IMC Cougar II kit. A big reason was the greater detail but steering wheels were my main objective.  This car was also used as a prop for a childrens film that was made by a friend of mine.  Paint was Pactra white.  Thanks for starting this post an allowing me to share.

What a great piece of history Rich.  Always wondered how an IMC Cougar chassis would work and you proved it is worth the effort.  I am impressed you were already practicing the "its gotta have poseable front wheels" mantra already in 1965, impressive!  Thanks for sharing.

WOW, Are these going to be available as transkits??  Awesome work!!

Yes.  Historic Racing Miniatures will be offering a trans-kit for the AMT Cobra.

Man that's a nice Cobra

Here is the Sunny kit.  Most of the Sunny kits are molded in a pale yellow/green plastic.  I prefer this version with the body molded in blue and the chassis/engine molded in gray..

That is some world-class work for 1965! Amazing! :blink:B)

My one and only AMT kit that I actually completed so I have a lot of catching up to do.  I was not happy with how the rear sat up too high.  It seemed to fit nicely before I put it together.

Yeah Rex, it takes a bit of massaging to get the body to fit over the interior to fit down on the chassis just right, This is the only built I have right now.  Just a nice stocker, one of the grey plastic issues. Actually picked it up on ebay...

Being that the Sunny kit is a modified version of the AMT kit hoping Gary won't mind if I post builds of that kit.

Thank you very  much, I consider world class to be the ultimate compliment. At 17yrs old I never would have dreamed I would achieve such status.

Was looking for something else completely and found one random pic of the other AMT Cobra I built, in the late '80s or early '90s. Model Master BRG. Completely OOB except for the wire wheels from a '65 Riviera.

I need to get this one out and take good pics of it sometime.

Really great models.  For a kit that's been around this long, (almost SIXTY!! years), it really holds up.

and with a couple minor updates, or well thought out transkits (Thanks JC and HRM) they really pop.

AND you can still get new issues with little decal or box changes, or even an entire body, like the Sunny.

Nicely done AMT!!

Great builds guys.  I have been a Cobra fanatic for a loooong time!!  The stock black version and the blue with silver stripes were built at least 40 years ago, I had just started airbrushing and using auto acrylic, no clear coating back then.  I also built how I would have one, should I have been lucky enough, not.  Today I would build them as Gary has, versions of actual cars.  The blue on blue was my take on the FIA version, less the boot luggage bumps.  I have since built a correct FIA car based on the Revell slot car body but with AMT underpinnings and Monogram small block.  I did post my FIA car up here a couple of years ago.

Tks for looking

'64 Targa Florio FIA Roadster based on the Sunny kit:

JC, did you do a build thread on the FIA or in your albums?  I would like to see how you corrected the nose please.

Gary here is the build thread:

http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/110411-shelby-cobra-csx2260-fia-roadster/

I reshaped the top of the radiator opening by sanding and filled in the lower half.  The gold painted body on the left is as it comes from the kit.

Then added the oil cooler opening and filled the brake cooling ducts.
