oldscool Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Another one finished after languishing for years in the box. Not by best paint or foiling work. All of my models have a good side and the passenger side is the good side of this one. Screwed the pooch on the driver side mirror and when I went to reposition it a chunk of paint came off with it. It's still wrong but I'm not going to remove it again and risk losing more paint. This was primed with a primer sealer and it didn't adhere to the plastic very well. Paint also chipped off around the window trim from cutting the foil. Paint is Duplicolor touch up spray Nissan Orange Mist clear coated with Quick Shine. Thinking about painting the hood flat black. Pros: Good fit and easy final assembly. Nice chassis and engine bay detail. Cons: The grill and headlights really let this kit down. I tacked it in with white glue hoping to replace it with something better in the future. Well known body shape issues but they aren't that noticeable to my eyes. Chrome parts rough around the edges. Rear track width too narrow. Poorly defined engraving of window trim which made it difficult to foil. After all these years, they still haven't revised the instructions. They still show the "voice of the Road Runner" horn as the wiper motor when the proper wiper motor is on the chrome sprue.
shoopdog Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Looks pretty good to me. Funny, my builds always have a good and not so good side.
espo Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 I agree I also think this looks great even with the afore mentioned body issues. I have touched up very small places in the paint as you mentioned. I would spray a tiny bit of paint into a small plastic cup. Depending on what you're most comfortable doing I have used the frayed end of a tooth pick or a very fine brush and touch up the chipped area. My never be 100 % but it would at least make it harder to see.
drodg Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) Really good paint. I would maybe highlight the side marker lenses in red and orange and maybe use a chrome pen like molotov etc to bring the GTX emblems out on the side. The downside of the kit you have noted but you did a really good job with it. Edited July 21, 2020 by drodg spelling
doorsovdoon Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Looks great. I'd be more than happy with that. Are you going to do the side markers? or, like me sometimes, is it a case of that's good enough, haha.
Jim B Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Looks great! I think it looks better than my bronze 1969 GTX that I recently finished. Where did you get the door mirrors? My kit didn't have those.

This one seemed to have bad karma.Lol 3 hours ago, Jim B said: Looks great! I think it looks better than my bronze 1969 GTX that I recently finished. Where did you get the door mirrors? I didn't have the side mirrors, the horn, and the tail light lenses were wrong. The decals were also not complete. Still came out ok, though.
